This makes absolute perfect sense, no one is going to help you unless you do it yourself. I can see we will be in the same position soon ourselves, no growth.

      Good Morning Martin,

We have a frightening situation internationally in the arena of economics.

I personally have no idea how it will play out. We are all very good at pointing out the detrimental things that are happening. We don’t, as a society, seem to be very good at coming up with plausible solutions.

      Stay tuned. I certainly will!

Best and thanks for your comments,

In the first place, the banking crisis was caused by government intervention. Specifically, Clinton’s National homeownership Strategy and Bush’s American Dream Downpayment Act, which promoted paper-thin down payments and pushed lenders to give mortgage loans to buyers with shaky financing and incomes. The government created the mess and then tried to fix it with bailouts. We would have been much better off letting the failed banks fail. We need less government intervention not more and less government spending on failed policies.

      Hi Karen,

      Amen.

I remember when the Community Reinvestment Act came out. I happened to be on the loan committee of our bank. Going over many of the applications was an absolutely frightening experience because the applicants were simply not qualified for the loans.

Of course, we need less government intervention. The question now becomes, “is it simply too late?”

Shabby vintage is most cgallenhing for me. I always have a picture of an idea in my head, but when I put it to paper, it just doesn’t look the same. Because I do love the style, I’m going to keep trying. Going to go collect my lace, buttons, and pearls right now! Love the sunshine card Kim! So cute!

Al, making sense in a non sense state like California has little or no potential as the powers that be are not interested in finding solutions, they are truely interested in finding answers to the problems of their special interests. The non special interest Californians were pushed aside in favor of the politicians who feed off of the unions, environmentalists, and the professional gentry class for aleast the past 2 decades. This is a house devided.

      Hi Larry,

I cannot disagree with anything that you are saying. I believe that Ellen was discussing this in the sense of “if it were a perfect world.”

I will ask her to comment on your ideas.

      Best,

      Big Al

I don’t see how creating a state Bank of California will do anything other than kick the can down the road for California. It is time for politicians to live within their means. Kicking the can down the road just guarantees a bigger blow up later.
    It’s the stupid spending.
Passing the debt on to our children is disgusting, is immoral, and should be impeachable.

      Jul 12, 2011 12:47 AM

Yep, David. It is disgusting, immoral and should, to a degree, be impeachable.

Look at what it has gotten us so far!

i dont believe the idea of a state bank is a new idea. neither is getting rid of the federal reserve. lincons greenback is needed but as some people know the central banks wont allow it. maybe promote and vote ron paul.

      Jul 12, 2011 12:49 AM

Of course, promote and vote Ron Paul. (At least someone cut from the same cloth.)

Our country desperately needs fiscal reform. Let’s see if it happens or if the politicians simply continue to feather their own nests.

    HI Folks,

Here is a comment from Ellen:

“Hi, yes I could be a bit of an optimist about the potential of my state! Hope springs eternal. Ellen”

I guess that my additional comment is, without hope you have nothing!

    Best,

    Big Al
