    Al,
Maybe we should have a ‘War on Depravity’ instead of a ‘War on Poverty’.

    May 28, 2012 28:02 AM

    Oh yeah!

How about some radio with you this week?

Being outcast for speaking the truth started with this corrupt administration and the bias media. This administration dislikes the military and in my opinion encourages statements such as you referred to. And the violence? Look back at the statements made by seiu. They called for violence in the streets and nothing was said. Where was eric holder when the black panther party threatened violence at the voting booth. This administration is in lockstep with the communist party and the unions. The violence is just beginning. Kudos to the democrats that are speaking up for capitalism. They will be targeted and savaged by the administration.

OK big Al you got my blood pressure maxed and I left this out of the above rant. Bring our military home and let them assist the police in getting rid of the thugs and gangs in the cities and put them on the border to keep out the illegals and terrorists. Replace the nut case in charge of homeland security and get a decent AG that will prosecute evil.
YEAH!! Feel better. Thanks big Al.

      Mr Mabie,

You are making way to much sense!

Relax; go and read Animal Farm; and, stop thinking for yourself!

“Bring our military home and let them assist the police…”

Ever heard of the Posse Comitatus Act?

The sign of a full blown police state is the military police “assisting” law inforcement.

Be careful what you wish, you may actually get it.

An armed citizenry can take care of that way more effeciently than anything else.

Securing the border, however, would be a reasonable use of the military inside the US.

        May 29, 2012 29:58 AM

Used to be an armed citizen could legally protect himself and his property. No more! Texas and Florida are about the only states left that accomodate a citizen with a gun. Defend yourself and you stang a good chance of going to jail for shooting a criminal that is in your house ready to do you harm. The police can be instructed to do the will of the politicians if they choose. It doesn’t take the military assisting the police to put the citizen at risk.

          Morning Missive and Jerry M,

Big Al – On your last point, that was a round table discussion on a show on MSNBC. Glenn Beck’s website “theblaze.com” has that discussion among its choices for anybody to take in.

The moderator starts the conversation by saying that he is uncomfortable calling the men and women that have lost their lives in the wars as heroes. It seemed everybody in that conversation subscribed to that premise.

The sad thing is that many feel this way. Too many in our culture take our freedom for granted. Many think that free health care is a right. The election of our current President demonstrated our utter disregard for the right type of leadership and values.

We are at a crossroads in this country. We can succumb to the trend or we can step forward and assert ourselves. This is no time for political correctness or shrinking violets.

      May 28, 2012 28:10 PM

      Afternoon Going Down Fast,

I absolutely agree that not calling men and women who have lost their lives in some type of accepted military action is absolutely immoral.

It is also terrifying that a major network would air that comment and not disagree. I have to wonder how the parents of those kids feel.

      Sad chapter in our history!

The US military has trained many people in the Art Of War and when these vets return home with no future the violence could get very nasty for everyone in America. War is a terrible thing.

      May 28, 2012 28:12 PM

      Shawn,

Yes, my friend, war is a terrible thing. But then again is putting soldiers in a place where they perhaps don’t want to be.

      You can’t win my friend!

From Canada to the USA- the Land of Heroes. Happy US Memorial Day.

re: The “Hero” comment from MSNBC.
This left wing piece of crap who said this is Chris Hayes ( he also was as idiotic regarding PM investors).

No matter of how I feel about the American leadership establishment, which is not repeatable, does not diminish the men and women who served their country, risking their bodies, to protect America, save people whom they never met and never to be thanked for it.

America invaded Normandy, although they learned to avoid the mistakes at Dieppe where 3,367 men were killed.

Did America have to invade Normandy? There is the issue that America got involved in WW2 to save its banks who had massive loans to European banks, at the time.

Did America have to put in place a Marshal Plan to clothe and feed Europeans?
Did America have to plow through Germany?
Did America have to invade the Concentration Camps? Although they could have bombed them but the Brits and American leaders were against it.
GW Bush admitted that America should have.

But the answers to those questions are NO.
The Germans were not close to an atomic bomb. There were issues they did not know how to resolve. By that time their resources were limited.

    America could have stayed home.

      May 28, 2012 28:14 PM

And, I will bet, that a very large portion of the population in Europe (both Eastern and Western) are very glad that America did not stay home!

      Best to you,

      Big Al

      May 28, 2012 28:48 PM

Gotta comment. Some people figure ALL the allied forces could have avoided the 2nd war had britain not backed poland, their thinking is the germans and russians would have finished each other off.
About the nuclear bomb, they were very close to the bomb, this was one of hitlers mistakes, had he waited to attack another 3-4 years he would of had it and won hands down. as to how close, germany beaten 1945 bomb lands in japan 1946.
One of the things that stopped the germans having it earlier was the sinking of a ferry that was carrying heavy water. The brits got the underground to sink the ferry because they didnt know what it was, sorta just in case.
The argument of the 2nd war goes back to the first, had the americans not gone in ww1 an acceptible peace may have resulted avoiding the 2nd.
imho it was all for banks.

        May 29, 2012 29:56 PM

as usual, the Americans only joined the War when it apparent that it would hurt them financially if they didn’t. So, so much for ‘saving’ everyone. They could have helped WAY earlier and spared many thousands of British, Canadian and other forces who died trying to stop Hitler. So, dont be too quick to heap praise on the US military leadership. The personnel who actually fought did it heroically but the leadership back then has a huge blame to carry.

    May 28, 2012 28:29 PM

Al, can I take the last part first?

A true, heart-felt thanks to veterans, whatever theatre or support role you served. In my own form of self-conscription when I was in the Canadian Air Cadets for a couple of years (like Civil Air Patrol), I had the pleasure of secretly sneaking into Legions and talking to vets of WW1, 2 and Korea, and I’ve been lucky enough to be told some stories which are usually reserved only for those who were actually there. To say anything derisive about those killed-in-action, or not being heroes, or who made (or were willing to make) the ultimate sacrifice is so obtusely arrogant, I wonder why those making such statements about veterans who died are even given any attention at all, particularly on Memorial Day weekend — it sounds almost like an intentional plant to garner ratings. Regardless, it’s ignorant on so many levels. Perhaps we needed to hear more of the context, but those who perished are heroes to me.

This weekend had a few alarming, grisly stories. And I did not hear about the very tragic Seattle stories until your editorial. When economics go bad, violence always ticks-up. This trend will have to continue then, for some time yet, and probably worsen. Violent crime dropped in the aught’s of the 2000’s. When all the statistics are in by 2017, I think we’ll see the proof of what most of us already know…it’s back on the rise.

I was thinking about the oppressive nature of politics the weekend. Voting for party A vs B makes no difference, because they have both become cliques. Of course, that is both what makes a Ron Paul both so refreshing, and so outcast. The pundits and incumbents of Washington DC should take care though. It can take a long time to raise the ire of the people, but once it happens, look out. Paul has become even more popular than in 2008. Though obviously Republican, I cannot begin to relate how many self-professed Democrats say they identified with many of his tenets. If Ron Paul and the one or two like him are not in the race, those same groups of Republicans and Democrats will be all-the-more depressed with the offerings from the yawning-mainstream politicians. Forums like this website are exactly what is needed to change how parties will cast-out those who don’t conform. The fellow Al was interviewed by last week — who said he didn’t like Republican or Democrat choices, and that Ron Paul was a nut, and that he may not vote — is EXACTLY the problem. He is as much to blame as those in power.

Oh my, the cornucopia of platitude’s and exceptionalism that America insists on parroting and promoting as its nation’s theme song. As our nation descends into the abyss of nothingness at an unprecedented rate.

This memorial day is a perfect example of the lie that the country must tell itself and condition it’s young to follow the time honored script. Do not deviate from the script young man. The war machine facade and the death cult that permeates its sacred wall’s must keep the talking points of hero worship and killing is justified front and center.

The sheep must not awaken to the real reason’s for war and death.

Firewalls against anyone pontificating downsizing, criticizing or denouncing such inhumane action will be silenced at all costs. The war pig’s lie must prevail.

America the land of fool’s, lie’s, deceit, and illusion cloaked with a demonic overlay has consumed every fabric of our shallow existence. Finely tuned and honed to perfection with years of advanced social engineering indoctrination. The blithering comatose drooling masses openly ask for and vote for those entities that have bankrupted us and will continue to enslave, impoverish and steal every last shred of wealth and liberty left in the country.

And they will do it again, and again, and again and again and again until the grand apex of failure is forced to execute its mandate and restore a magnificent harmonic balance upon the earth by the forces of mother nature herself.

The selfish, meme, narcissistic culture of the baby bombers along with the well trained generation of Y & X’ers openly usher in a defend a brave new world of degradation, depravity, and apathy.

Never in Mao Sa Tong’s, or Joesph Stalin’s long dominance as preeminent dictatorial tyrants of death and dehumanization could they have dreamed of having such a powerful technocratic propaganda glorification machine as advanced as the one that will lay waist to the USA, Inc.

Yes big Al, the shootings in Seattle, WA are tragic and disgusting in all of its thoughtless and unnecessary damage to life and community.

We the people of this country have to take responsibility for this and future actions like it. For we as individuals may not have literally pulled the trigger, but we all played a part as we placed our collective hands on the weapon and helped pull the trigger.

We all have allowed our country to be hijacked by a cabal of political globalist NWO hacks, war machine propagandist and banking/wall street/Fed Reserve profiteers and shysters. This deplorable subset of immoral people have destroyed the basic fabric of the value in our currency and our money systems which are vital to life itself. They have funded and promoted a fraudulent and immoral education and history doctrine that have left our young as stupid, mumbling, fumbling profit units to be exploited for life and unable to function or critically think on any level.

They have also destroyed the mind’s, conscience and empathy of generations of people whom today exist only in a world of fairytale s, detachment, delusion and indifference.

We as a people are now coming to the realization and horror of what awaits behind the door of reality. The people now know that there is no rule of law be it in property rights, political theatrics, financial swindle or in the two-tiered Judicial sphere.

We have entered the wild wild west of no growth, no job’s and no future for most. And we have no one to blame but ourselves.

    Respectfully

    Vortex

      May 28, 2012 28:09 PM

      Boy Vortex,
That last line is not only very, very sobering, but, unfortunately very true – no one to blame but ourselves……..wow…

Marc, Please take time to read the kitco article for today 5/28 by Warren Bevan entitled “America on the Brink”. http://www.kitco.com/ind/Bevan/20120528.html
I am also heavily vested in physical gold and silver which you mentioned you had done in a previous blog this weekend. I wish I could convince fellow friends and family to “WAKE UP” and see what is happening with the economy and our Country. I did not have the foresight to start investing in the PM’s until a couple of years ago. It feels like the only safe “route” to travel in these testing times.

          Jody D,
Thanks so much, I will read it right now. IMHO, great job on your PM investments. I am the only one invested in such in my family. They won’t even sniff at the idea. Why? I have no idea -beats the h____ out of me!

Yep, QE3 is a done deal. A real ‘hot potato” in this election year. But, as you know, QE hasn’t really stopped at all. You more “stealthy”. Won’t it be fun to see how the feds spin the name and mechanism used for the “next” infusion of cash. Scarey that it has come to this point. The markets aren’t the markets anymore. They are turning into some really bad “B-rated horror movie”! YIKES……girl! :).
            All the best,

the first solution to the problem is to ban ALL guns in the USA. America has more deaths due to gun crime than almost anywhere in the world. It is no coincidence that America has just about the loosest laws surrounding gun control of any civilised country. In this day and age, who in their right mind needs to own a gun?? Are they all still hunting rabbits in America? I dont think so. Get rid of guns and you’ll see gun crime drop massively. If you look back in history, the first mistake was arming the Police. As soon as you did that, it was sending a clear message to criminals that they better carry guns as well, so as to be on equal footing with Police. From that point onwards, gun deaths went straight up.
I’m not suggesting you can remove guns from Police now, at least not those who patrol dangerous streets, the damage is already done, but make guns illegal for everyone else and it will be a step in the right direction of a more civilised society for all to live in and bring young people up in.

Below you will find the result of my Memorial Day porch pondering of Al’s Daily Editorial and an article I read from The Telegraph. I have to agree with going down fast….timidity is not an attribute that will serve us well in this environment:

Below is a pull quote making an obvious point in a more interesting article:

”…… it is easier to cope with the insecurity of the global economy if you can draw on security at home.
    (new paragraph)
That was the common-sense approach. But common sense has always been a scarce commodity.”
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/9289992/At-the-heart-of-Europes-crisis-is-the-abolition-of-the-nation-state-and-the-attempt-to-impose-monetary-union.html

    This tidbit made me think:

When the correct answer is simple. What happens when you do not like the answer.
Think about the Austrian School’s common sense approach to economics.
A simple analogy explains large sound concepts.
A couple stories of monetary mayhem and a punchbowl sums up half of the “General Theory”.
If the answers were simple then why did we need all those Greek letters and chalky formulas?
Because people did not like the simple common sense answer. Reality limited the ambitious desire for power.
There were less levers to control in correctness.
In order for power to be extracted simplicity needed to be complicated.
The manipulators needed buttons to push.
Chalk boards need to be dirty.
They needed a Star Trekesque flashing light stage set of which only a handful could understand the fraudulent intricacies.
Complex intimidating formulas needed to prevent the obvious from being embraced.
For decades we lived inside the lyrics of a Donald Fagen Steely Dan song…”The things that pass for knowledge I can’t understand!”
Sound economic thought was ignored. Snickered at like a poorly tossed economic gutter ball.
All the while John Maynard Keynes was said to be throwing strikes.
With the test of time we now know.
Mises was throwing the strikes and adding up points.
Keynes was hiding his errors with complexity.
The devious and the duped claimed victory for Keynesian error laden poorly thrown economic gutter balls.
If only Hayek challenged Keynes to go bowling instead of an intellectual debate.
Perhaps I over simplify the rigors of the Austrian School.
Maybe I should instead say that within the Austrian School common sense is not a scarce commodity.

      May 28, 2012 28:51 PM

“For decades we lived inside the lyrics of a Donald Fagen Steely Dan song…”The things that pass for knowledge I can’t understand!””

For years, my lyrical commentary on socialism has been “You can check-out any time you want, but you can never leave.” Once started, it never ends. Kind of like eternity.

Synergy between Al’s commentary, The Telegraph Article and Pandora can be interesting.

          May 28, 2012 28:22 PM

John a link to the song your pull quote referenced.
An almost 40 year old clip from The Midnight Special…after watching this clip I went to my closet. I asked my wife “where are my crushed velvet purple pants?”
She said “Volunteers of America has ’em!”
It does make me think why have belt buckles become so small and clothes in general boring.

One good Telegraph article deserves another…this from Ambrose Evans-Pritchard about Spain. The statistics in the article really are amazing, and awful. Some highlights:

      * Spain is trying to bailout Bankia at €23.5 billion and doesn’t have the money.
      * Spanish 10 year bonds are at 6.4% right now…remember when Greece hit that note last year?
      * Capital fight has cut foreign holdings of Spanish debt from 50% to 37%…since JANUARY!
      * Germany and the ECB don’t want to lend Spain any more money.
      * Spain’s budget deficit, despite all previous attempts, is STILL at 8.9% of GDP! And Prime Minister Rajoy wants to get it to 5.3%…imagine the backlash from a nation with 25% unemployment already.

That is the bottom line Dennis M.

Austrian economic principals are actually full of common sense and very simply.

I never understood why the Keynesian approach was so applauded. Just look at where we are today.

Funny story and quite apropos at this moment in time:

We live in a great community where you can buy property for 40 -50 cents on the dollar. There are two absolutely wonderful golf courses here. There is a great hotel which is just around the corner from being run down. (Still a 4 star.)

The owners today are an Indian tribe and a development company that, I believe, just declared bankruptcy.

Guess who just made their third visit out here to buy up land and, as I understand it, the golf facilities and probably the hotel.

Give up? A group of businessmen from China!

Al, I’m your age, educated, well-travelled, Canadian. In 1969, half-way through the Vietnam War, I spent a year travelling all over Europe, Morocco, Israel, etc and met a number of American vets with several tours of duty in Nam and to a man they were ashamed of their service, self-destructive, even suicidal, couldn’t fit in. Given what I know of horrors in Iraq and Afghanistan, I can’t see how vets there could be proud. I hate to rain on your parade today, and I know how much Americans support their troops, but violence begets violence, wherever it may be, and i don’t see how violence has ever been a long term solution even when sanctioned by supposedly God-fearing leaders. There are better ways.

      May 28, 2012 28:15 PM

      Arnie,

I could not agree with you more.

I had a terribly sad experience with my best friend who was drafted and sent over there. I don’t even know if he is still alive today.

My point is that they are sent over to those “war theaters” and not really given a chance to refuse.

I completely agree with your comment. I am simply saying, let’s not belittle them when they return or do not return from a situation that they did not want in the first place.

      Best,

      Big Al

        May 29, 2012 29:05 PM

Governments should go back to understanding that sending troops into a war zone should be a ‘last resort’ and not an automatic reactionary move. Human life is the most precious and most fragile thing in the world. Sometimes I fear the Leaders of the world have forgotten this simple point.

      May 28, 2012 28:04 PM

        A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ‘ I love you ‘ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

        AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

If you don’t send this to at least 8 people…..Who cares?

        George Carlin

          May 28, 2012 28:40 PM

I will send it to 9 people.

            May 28, 2012 28:27 PM

            Okay Dennis M,

Here’s a challenge, I will send it to 100 people!

          Irwin, good day,

George Carlin was a genius among geniuses. He may have been professionally classified as a comedian but he was far more than that narrow scope of recognition.

One of the brightest guy’s to ever walk the earth.

      May 28, 2012 28:23 PM

      Thanks Irwin,

I saw and heard that way back when.

I think that what Sinclair is saying is basically the same thing that I said.

One difference today is that I believe that we are in areas where we are not wanted. My opinion on that? Okay, you folks take care of your own!

I really don’t like to see our kids getting killed in the Middle East. Let them kill eachother if they can’t work it out.

      Viva Ron Paul!

Its over. almost everyone has lost thier minds in every country. noone can take the stress anymore. people are freakin out. Loss of jobs, financial calamity, economic meltdown, wars, rumors of wars, prices of oil, gas, food going up every week. Its in the Bible. Only Jesus the Christ can save you. Gold and silver cannot save you. It’s all been foretold in the Bible. The 2nd coming of Jesus Christ is near. We may not know the day nor the hour but we will know when it is near. Its impossible to put the word “near” into a time frame. So just keep your ears and eyes open and live the way Jesus told you to live which is the exact opposite of how most people live today. AMEN!!!!!!!!!

I am in construction and doing great. Of course I get myself dirty. But it washes off. My wife has a great job. Both of my sons marryed well, have great jobs and their wives have great jobs. My youngest son got his dream job , as he says, because the employer liked the fact that he worked while attending full time school. So there it is, Hard work with freedom and being responsible with ones life still works. God Bless America.

      Thanks Keep Stacking,

      Same with our daughters!

      Thank God!

We can lay much at the feet of the liberal new media. If we had a republican president we would get our news from the unemployment lines, homeless shelters, places where people that have lost there homes are. We never hear of jobs being destroyed by bad policies. All we ever hear is how everything is getting better. We do not hear about why, nobody goes to jail for stealing hard working peoples money from their brokerage account. All we can know is that GOD has it in his hand and he takes care of his own.

On American,British and Canadian Memorial days I think of my grandfather who was 15 years old and shot coming out of a trench in France in the First World War.My great grandfather pulled him off the battlefield and despite the bullet that almost hit his heart ,my grandfather survived.
The only thing he ever said about the war to my Mom was that if another war comes to Britain/ Canada that she should take her boys and run.
I am confused when Memorial day comes around each year.
I always think of my Grand dad and Major General Smedley D. Butler and wish this world’s peoples did not have to accept or be dealt with such sad ultimatums such as warring upon each other.

“I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.”
    -Dwight D. Eisenhower

Matt, my grandfather ww1 told my father ww2, that he would shoot my father himself before he allowed my father to go to war. He ment it. My garndfather died before the 2nd war and sure enough my father ends up in europe. I thank god served in peace time.

As I have said before, we have met the enemy and they are us. We should have stood up to the forces that sought to bring about ” polical corretness”and suspend all discussion outside the realm of socialist ideology. We will all pay for that.

To me a hero is someone who dives on a grenade to save others. It’s not just a matter of being mortally wounded.

      May 29, 2012 29:45 AM

A soldier who puts his/her life at risk to make the homeland safe is a hero.
