That, I believe, is the true problem. Many politicians are incapable of doing the math, and those that can do the math are too scared of telling the truth, because that would result in them losing their jobs – Alas the Roman act of decimation is no longer available to civilized society; no matter how much we might think it appropriate.

I completely agree with your comment regarding those who can do the math are too scared of telling the truth.
I believe that if all of society was aware of the magnitude of our problem we would have a situation that would be more than just a little bit scary!
