Maybe Jeff can help with the following inquiries. Approximately 5 to 6 years ago, during the Bush Administration, I began writing the White House, SEC, CFTC, Congressmen, Senators about what I felt was manipulation and lack of enforcement of the various markets. The White House during Bush and Obama did not answer. The CFTC did not respond. The SEC responded and said they had no criminal prosecution authority…to which I repeatedly told them to forward those cases of merit to the Justice Dept…then, there was no response. My Senator, after many letters, said that his main concern was “the banks”, which meant “not the people”. My Congressman made “light” of the situation meaning to me the problems were in the “too tough category”.
Question: Is Washington Corrupted to the point of destruction of the Country?
Question: Is Congress without power to combat the Banks and Fed?
Question: Are the Presidents chosen by Corporations and without motivation to “support and defend the Constitution”?
Question: Will it take economic collapse before we can put people in jail?
Question: Is this a battle with globalists and are the people losing?

Thanks if anyone wants to tackle these issues. I thought since Jeff had many in years in the halls of Congress, maybe he could help us outsiders understand the America we don’t recognize anymore.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:03 AM

      David-
With regard to Bush, Obama, your Senator, and your Congressman, the question is very simple: do you have any power to get them thrown out of office? If not they can safely ignore your inquiries.

The idea that government somehow works for its citizens and should be responsive to those citizens is dangerous fantasy.

        Jan 19, 2013 19:11 AM

        Excellent answer Mr Deist.

        Jan 19, 2013 19:24 AM

THAT IS WHY WE NEED TERM LIMITS……..since FDR…they say what you want to hear, to get elected, and do what benefits them while they are there……ANY CONGRESSMAN, OR CONGRESSWOMAN, THAT HAS BEEN THERE FOR MORE THAN TWO TERMS IS DANGEROUS………LIFETIME POLITICANS ARE DANGEROUS PERIOD…..

          Jan 19, 2013 19:25 PM

Jerry The Short…term limits?…never happen..49% want to keep sucking the country dry and will never vote those out that are providing the milk..too fa

To continue: Too for gone to correct..revolution?..possibly the only answer at this point in time.. Ticking time bombs..Reid,Pelosi,obummer, and his entire cabinet…not a rosy scenario but unfortunately one that is upon us.. Come to Fl. for a pontoon ride..forget your troubles and enjoy the Gators, snakes and hot humid weather. Love it…. Regards…

        Jeff:
Thanks for the brutal truth. Do you think we are physically safe from our government at the present time?

          Jan 19, 2013 19:17 PM

Yes and no. Martial law and jailing of dissidents clearly are possible in the USA, but it always has been that way. On the other hand it’s entirely possible for societies to flourish despite the presence of a mafia, provided that mafia is somewhat subdued simply by the will of decent people. Government is just the biggest, most powerful mafia in the US.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:09 AM

David, I think those are excellent questions. My perspective is Yes, totally corrupt and ecinomic collapse is now required to correct the situation, I just hope its the economy and not bombs that cause the destruction of cities. Who knows tho, I like to hope that enough people “wise up” before the worst hits us.
On another note,I was e mailed today that Adrian Douglas has passed, 2 years fighting cancer.
I liked Mr.Douglas, his work was excellent,he will be missed.

        Jan 19, 2013 19:27 PM

I met and spoke with Adrian on a number of occasions and, yes, he will be missed!

EVERYONE is responsible for their own health. THE BEST way to maintain your health is to optimize your IODINE levels. My mom had low Iodine levels her entire life and it was never identified. She suffered something terrible her entire life. Do yourself a favor and buy the book: Iodine, why you need it, why you can’t live without it.

Jerry the short: In addition to GMO foods, big corporations at the behest of government have been manufacturing and distributing tracking chemicals in the form of synthetic aromatics. People who do not use nor purchase any product containing scented aromatics such as detergents, dryer sheets or anything that has something that “Smells Good”, soon realizes how pervasive these chemicals are.

The government has infused the population with these tracking chemicals for “just in case scenarios” or Martial Law. These people have been planning this for a long time and in view of the increasing number of people who are beginning to realize this, it is likely that something dreadful is about to happen.

jERRY you are a suspicious individual which does you right with good intuition. When the Big Media advertise something most people will assume it is for corporate profit, but many things are advertised which never make any profit at all. Many of the GMO distributed foods contain compounds which when triggered will convert into extremely deadly substances. Aromatics are one of the triggering compounds much for similar reasons flowers produce the many different smells.

and….everyone wonders why the honey bees are dying……great post CLAY…..

          Jan 20, 2013 20:37 AM

jRERRY: You got it, that right Bees are dying.

Several hundred years from now today’s actions taken by people in corporations and governments will be looked in similar ways as we look at people hundreds of years ago and the really stupid things they did. Things do change, but the one thing that should change but rarely does is Stupidity.

So called Scientists working in laboratories, bankers in banks, politicians in government, and many more think they can create something new for whatever reason they have, thinking there are few consequences or that nature has not already tried and failed. Hubris is extremely dangerous especially when brewed with stupidity.

            Jan 20, 2013 20:32 PM

I like that….”hubris is extremely dangerous especially when brewed with stupidity”…great post…..

    Expectedreturns update:
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve become the most concerned about the global economy I have been in awhile. I personally have been increasing my efforts to prepare for what’s coming, because I think the window for the best trades is closing. Bonds are very close to concluding their 30+ year bull market, which is not a bad thing in a vacuum. But in the current environment, this is going to put pressure on housing and small businesses (Housing is a hold. I would probably wait for interest rates to rise and then purchase with all cash). A rise in interest rates is likely to push us over the edge into recession, which means lower tax revenue and higher deficits- a very bad combination.

In complex systems, a lack of volatility is often confused with stability. But this is a huge mistake because the most complex systems, especially if they are manipulated by government, create the biggest collapses. Think about the difference between bonds and stocks. With stocks, we experience regular sell-offs, booms, crashes, etc. The volatility in stocks is recurring, which means there are more opportunities to self-correct imbalances. However, with bonds, price movements in general are steady, safe, and linear, so people assume this means risk-free, especially since the government buys bonds directly with the pretext of “stabilizing” the market. Unfortunately, this is incredibly foolish because they are creating unintended consequences that compound in increasingly complex ways. In the short-term, they are removing volatility as if it is a bad thing; in the long run, they are just ensuring a big crash.

Although it is difficult to predict the precise timing of events, time is always the enemy of stability. The longer U.S. bonds keep chugging along, the bigger the problem will be, by far. Before bonds crash, all the suckers need to be forced into the trade, which probably will happen when Europe/Japan implode. It’s likely you will be witnessing a spike high in bonds at this point. Then things get interesting and I doubt the average person will be able to navigate through the storm. The entire global landscape we have grown accustomed to can and will change overnight. By far the smartest thing to do is to load up on assets with asymmetric risk/reward characteristics. This means gold 100%. Remember, there’s a big difference between understanding something intellectually and taking action. I really, really hope all of you are taking action.

In re segment #1….THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF NEGATIVITY

On the bright side of life it is sunny in Central Ohio.
As the Mayan Calendar hype circulated it caused me to review predictions for the world to end. I provide a wiki-link to a very long list of apocalyptic predictors:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dates_predicted_for_apocalyptic_events
We can certainly say that those picked a date which is now historic were wrong.
    Thank goodness!!!!!!
The most removed and final prediction on the wiki list seems almost un-avoidable. The
claimant listed is a fearful group referenced as “Various Scientist”. They say that the death of the universe is the ultimate fate of the universe ….” in which the universe has diminished to a state of no thermodynamic free energy and therefore can no longer sustain motion or life.” Thankfully such result does not occur for 10 to the 100th power years from now….no exact date given. Suffice it to say I am glad I planted my tulips.
Irwin Allen knew well that tragedy was a big seller.
Pope Innocent III thought the world would end in 666 due to the rise of Islam. Martin Luther thought the world would not make it past 1600.
Even Christopher Columbus wrote a book on the subject “El Libro de las Profecías”(1501).
The Amazing Criswell prediction of August 18, 1999 turned out to be thankfully far less than amazing.
Jerry Falwell’s new millennium bid fell on not so hard times.
There are on bunch of dates which came and past and the picker recalculates to take account for a millennium worth of leap years or some other contrived readjustment.
Fear sells. There is a temptation to prognosticate. There is a big distinction between an entrepreneur and a know it all. There is an immense distinction between preparedness and becoming a recluse.
Fear sells. Wisdom suggests that fright places you on guard. It is a good thing.
Just as pain tells you to investigate its origin. Fear tells you to take warning. However, embracing fear can and will make you miss life. How tragic is that!
    My father would often say:

    “Never hurry!
    Never worry!
Stop and smell the ole gardenias!”

It is very obvious I do not worry about typos.
I hope they do not detract too much from the ideas intended to be communicated.

No Jerry I simply like tulips.

I like tulips…a poem, to wit:

            Last fall I planted tulips in a bed and now I wait for spring;
If I wanted….. I could take a spade to the bulbs…..but I choose to not!
            I like tulips!
            I shall wait.

Timmins gold shares look technically sound——we should see some more sideways to down moverment but not much—–I like the story and the charts and am looking for a little more downside and then the shares are a buy.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:05 PM

I would like to get back into Timmins at a lower level. Made good money on it in the past but lost a ton on Barrick using too much margin.

    Jan 19, 2013 19:48 AM

Gold Resource Corp (GORO) is a company that has the option of paying dividends out in physical gold or silver. You have to record your shares with DRS and open an account with Gold Bullion International where the dividends will be converted into gold or silver rounds. Then there are companies like Newmont that have a gold price linked dividend. Personally, I like the cash option as it gives greater flexibility. You can “DRIP” shares or what I typically do is take the proceeds and reinvest it in an undervalued junior.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:13 PM

I would like to hear that the incoming Newmont CEO Goldberg commit to the dividend policy developed with O’Brien as CEO.
At today’s stock entry level $2500 AU would yield an approaching 10% dividend.
Maybe Wednesday at the CIBC Whistler conference.
When you have an attractive dividend policy talk about it loudly and often.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:10 PM

Getting paid in 1oz rounds would be a good option for silver, but limiting gold dividends to 1oz would probably only be an option for the wealthy, particularly if you have diversified your wealth across a number of equities!

Gold dividends would work better with providers who offer accounts in fractional ounces like Perth Mint, or GoldMoney or Bullion Vault. This is one area where I’d welcome competition, the more the better.

        Jan 19, 2013 19:47 PM

It would be nice to have a debit card tied to precious metal dividends.
What about life insurance based on precious metals.
1 gram of gold per month premium- purchasing 500 oz. death proceed.
Why does thinking about what should be resemble history?

          Jan 19, 2013 19:08 PM

Peter Schiff’s company, Euro Pacific Bank, offers gold and silver backed debit cards. It’s not available for Americans but should be available for Canadians.

Life insurance policies based on PMs is an interesting idea, but for a 500 oz proceed, the premiums have to be significantly higher than 1 gram of gold/mo.

            Jan 19, 2013 19:47 PM

            Jimmy,
That depends upon your age and health,
            But you are correct!
Depending on your age and health of course.
The last century and monetary debasement has been nothing but kind to life insurance companies. And then there is us gold bugs who are supposed to be worried because of the last 12 years.
The point remains it would be nice to secure insurance in hard assets.
With computers as Mr. Bron Suchecki said………” it would be easy”.
            Let us do it.

      Jan 19, 2013 19:57 PM

“Somebody has to look after the failings of humanity”

The best way to look after the failings of humanity is for governments to leave alone the successes of humanity.

        Jan 19, 2013 19:12 PM

If you were our President would you define that as being a success although in the context of that meaning he has surely been successful.

          Amen, to you good sir.

          Jan 19, 2013 19:32 PM

As long as the “somebody looking after” is not a government who confiscates their non-altruistic wasteful benefits from us decreasing few building the Pyramid……. then in that instance Gorgeous George……. I agree.
I am all for looking after “the failings” on a voluntary basis!
And BTW George……I wish upon no one tomorrow’s equivalence of yesterday’s lions.

    ODE TO IRISH — Bentnail

Keep your eye to the microscope, eye to the microscope …
Look at the core, look at the core …
Nothing is at is seems …
There is ALWAYS much more … ALWAYS much more.

First degree … third degree …
They climb to the top …
    Trying to reach thirty-three …
But is that where it stops?

    Puppets on strings …
With words etched on their hearts …
    “Every man a man” …
Is a good place to start!!! — (HINT).

They hide in the dark with esoteric beliefs …
Just a good ol’ boys club — at least that’s what they teach …
Men who give orders, from way up on high …
If they share their dark secrets … then surely they’ll die.

So, they keep the truth hidden …
    From those they deceive …
    If only the masses …
    Knew what they believed.

Up is now down — and down is now up …
As above, so below — on these words they do sup …
So, DON’T BE DECEIVED by the ones that you trust …
Think outside of the box — THIS IS A MUST!!!

Why are the Jones’ never tight lipped …
Pitting ninty-nine against one as though from a script?
It’s like French deja vu all over again …
It’s like French deja vu all over again …
It’s like French deja vu all over again …

BUT AWAKE MY FRIEND — TO THE TRUTHS OF LIFE …

Presidents and bankers all on the same path …
They all follow Fibonacci … YOU DO THE MATH …
But THEY ARE DECEIVED … trying to find their way home …
But in the big scheme of things … ALL ROADS LEAD TO _________!!!

      Jan 20, 2013 20:46 AM

I nearly forgot the most important line …
Trust in the Lord and you will be fine …
So, be sure to remember Psalm 146 …

    ODE TO IRISH — ADDENDUM

The sun hugs the crescent …
And the crescent the cross …
    Study these symbols …
And you shall not be lost.

For those in the know …
They mean lead into gold …
    The chalice of Christ …
    The Philosopher’s Stone.

But let me assure you …
    It’s all a huge lie …
Because when all’s said and done …
    The wicked shall die.

    No Lucifer rising …
    No serpent redeemer …
    No third eye explosion …
    No salvation though reason.

The sun and the crescent …
    Are male and female …
    The child they bear …
    Is who the goats hail.

But the white throne is waiting …
For each and for all …
Who deny the Lord Jesus …
And have filled Him with gall.

    Goats to the left …
    Sheep to the right …
    No man into gods …
    Just darkness and Light.

CHOOSE YOUR SIDE — you either stand for the lies of Satan (who teaches that man is divine / can evolve into a god) — or — you stand for the truths of Jesus Christ. It does not get any clearer than that: choose today who you shall serve — but DO YOUR HOMEWORK because the kingdom of antichrist is being set up as we speak by the some of the people that we have come to love and trust!!! And remember the aforementioned verses in BOTH poems. The truth shall set you free!!!

      Jan 20, 2013 20:32 AM

Note … this poem is talking about Christ’s judgment on wickedness when He returns — the goats spoken of in scripture … the sheep are His followers. The death of the wicked is a reference to eternal damnation and not a violent attack by me … Just so we have that straight. I love ALL people and pray that every person will come to know Jesus before He returns.

    Jan 20, 2013 20:17 AM

    …..WOW!!!!!!!…..Bentnail , What brought that on ?

      Jan 20, 2013 20:25 AM

      IRISH:

My love of people … Nothing more, nothing less!!! I just believe that there is ALWAYS a lot more to every story than meets the eye … nothing is ever as it seems to be when it comes to spiritual warfare … and that is what this is (a war against the minds / souls of mankind) — satan is no slouch — he is far more intelligent than most people give him credit for (and so are those who are trying frantically to set up his earthly kingdom as spoken of in scripture). Thanks be to God, the Lord has revealed the devil’s gameplan in incredible detail. All I am saying is to think outside of the box … use the bible as a guide and you will see things a lot clearer than the average bear.

      Jan 20, 2013 20:24 AM

      IRISH:

It was my own response to your awesome poem the other day … an inner rant against the powers that be and those who appear to be hiding their true colors. It was certainly not meant to be a slap in the face for you … Hope you did not take it that way.

        Jan 20, 2013 20:34 AM

Bentnail…..NO i did not…….& Welcome to the RANTING CLUB. ….See my reply below.

    Jan 20, 2013 20:30 AM

Bentnail…I think inside the box , i also think outside of the box , & i have to tell you my best thoughts come when i am outside the box , i have stated before i try to live my daily live outside of the box……GOD created us to be free thinkers , he gave all of us the freedom to be good or bad , but HE would prefer if we were good . HE does not interfere in our daily lives like , Governments & Churches do . I am a lapsed Catholic , but i consider myself to be a good Christian , & yes i love people too , thats why i sometimes get angry on this blog , i hate to see injustice against my fellow men . Will i go to Heaven when i die ? i don’t know . All i can hope is , that i have been good , more times than i have been bad , Do Browney points count………Regards tony.

Fast money cannot by its nature understand sound money.
Melissa Lee calls her own colleague a conspiracy theorist because he says all the gold may not be there.
What is the world coming to when CNBC “analyst” sound like Bill Murphy?
Note how CNBC producers frame the segment in “Market Mystery” and scary B movie bumper music.
It is as if the presenters doubt themselves.
How can this be so? We have said it was not so for so long!!!
I have always wondered what the CNBC and NYT cutting room floor looked like.
All the news that was unfit to print which made Zero Hedge and GATA in the end the only legitimate game in town. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it wasn’t for the ticker, I wouldn’t watch CNBC. As it is, I only watch it, cause I keep it on mute. They’re just a bunch of Wall Street lap dogs—bark, bark, bark–buy, buy, buy.

      Jan 21, 2013 21:45 PM

I am going to use that, with full credit to you Dennis M, in my speech tonight.

    Esq.,
When the SHTF and it will, as sure as the sun will set and rise, tomorrow……people when look back at all these “signposts” about the massive economic upheaval that has engulfed them, and say….”Oh, somebody should have known and told me!” Well, the times are a changing and FAST…..The fact that Germany wants their gold it simply another nail in the coffin…..plain and simple….the trust in starting to break down between – when TRUST goes everything goes!

    Jan 20, 2013 20:49 PM

    ….between trading/geopolitical partners, govmt’s, etc., etc.,…..

De Gaulle called the momentary monetary mayhem system spot on in 1965.
How much do you want to bet that Melissa Lee never saw the below clip.
Ironically now we have Germany seeking all their gold from Paris.
What happened to gay ole Paris when they sent their battle ships to retrieve their bullion? Today they are on the dishoarding end. We will see how long it takes them to make good delivery.

Marc we have had sign posts our whole lives.
      Sign posts litter history.
From time to time we ignore the signs in favor of convenience.
      Instant gratification equals ignorant ecstasy!
When the manure hits the rapidly rotating metal blades psychology will change quickly.
As Rod Serling so often said…”There is a signpost up ahead”.

Has anyone been following the story of the 4 guys preparing to row across the Atlantic?

I believe their planned date of departure from Dakar is Wed Jan 23.

This isn’t just some little row boat either – obviously, as they have to carry enough provisions to last for the duration.

Here’s a short clip of the boat being lowered into the water:

    Al and Jeff:
You guys are golfers and may be interested in Phil Mickelson’s comments today after the Humana Challenge. Sounds like Pro Athletes are fed up with the tax system. What if all pro athletes decide to leave the country. A lot of unsold dogs and beer and stadiums that maybe can be used for High School playoffs. Sounds like Washington not thinking about unintended consequences, as usual.

He didn’t even discount moving to Canada. That’s pretty telling for a California boy.

Don’t know how many out here are following the Japanese these days; but I have to ‘laugh’ at what I heard on Bloomberg today. It goes like this:

‘If the Bank of Japan doesn’t do what the government tells them to do (i.e. debauch the yen) then the government will take away the BOJ’s independence!

INDEPENDENCE??? Okay, I’m confused. What is independence? Apparently they have rabbit holes in Japan too, where ‘words mean whatever they want to them to mean’. How do you say Alice in Japanese?

On a more serious note, doesn’t this look the the beginning of currency wars that lead to trade wars?

      Jan 20, 2013 20:03 PM

      YEP!
Unfortunately it looks like Gerald Celente “train to war” is taking place….what a heartbreak and disaster that potentially looms…..the Good Lord help us!

        Marc…..
It is not often I reference a certainly average movie twice in a span of days. However, “Legends of the Fall” appeared as a new arrival at Netflix after I referenced the movie last week. I began but to have finish re-watching the ordeal. There was an interesting line in the opening of the movie that speaks directly to your above concern, to wit:
Setting….Young Samuel returns from the East with his gorgeous fiancé. As they travel from the train to the ranch Samuel attempts to enlighten his father about world current events. Samuel’s father takes the opportunity to offer a life lesson which fell unfortunately on deaf ears…………….

Samuel Ludlow: “And the German Military is ready to use chaos in Croatia as a justification for actions that will just plunge the entire civilized world….”
        (INTERRUPTING)
Col. William Ludlow : “Samuel!!!!!!!!!The word civilized has no place in the discussions of the affairs of this world!”

Thanks for that interview with Serling. Just watch it. Extremely intelligent man with a excellent grasp of the English language.

            Jan 21, 2013 21:56 AM

            Marc,
It is safe to say that Rod Serling liked to swim in the deep end of the pool.
That interview aired prior to Twilight Zone’s debut.
I find it interesting that the Twilight Zone series is today often listed in the “Popular on Netflix” category.
The author grew up in my upstate N.Y. hometown of Binghamton.
From the interview inflation is made obvious….think that he hoped to be paid for 4 years of writing the series much less than what a 30 second advertisement will cost during the upcoming Super Bowl.
Rod Serling conceded battles with sponsors and censors on words. It was his chosen realm of science fiction which allowed him to interject many messages which would have been disallowed in a more realistic context. There was often an economic theme relating to the misplaced desires of human nature that I found compelling. There were also frequent references to inflation and the tenuous value of currency. I am glad you enjoyed the interview!

    BACK OF THE ENVELOPE MATH

Germany request from NY Fed for 300 tons of Gold.
    Delivery time 7 years
    7 years x 12 months/year= 84 months
    300 tons/84 months = 3.57 tons per month

Question….If you went to your bank and presented a withdraw slip for $300 how would you feel if they attempted to negotiated terms of $3.57 for the next 84 months?
Would your confidence in the financial institution increase or diminish?

      Jan 21, 2013 21:24 PM

      Paris Gold…………
      374 Tons/84 months = 4.45 tons per month.

US Gold Returning to Germany 3.57 tons per month until 2020
French Gold Returning to Germany 4.45 tons per month until 2020

      3.57 plus 4.45 = 8.02 tons per month for 7 years

      8.02 x 12 = 96.26 tons per year for 7 years

Assume the gold is not currently available and the time is needed to purchase off the market. This would amount to a 7 year Central Bank drain on the gold supply.

Assuming it is gold in the vault……then why do they need 7 years?

    Jan 21, 2013 21:26 AM

Big seller in PEM just showed up with 600,000 shares to sell on no news and a day that the US markets are closed. Hmmm… smart or dumb…
