    Well the term I keep hearing is PGM.
    As in platinum group metals… platinum & palladium.
    And while who can’t agree that language is constantly being twisted in order to deceive by those who’s agenda IS to intentionally mislead a snoozing general public….

    Al, Jeff & all, Last week I bought some shares of Stillwater Mining (SWC) looking to get in or at least some exposure to Platinum and Palladium. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

      I would think that exposure to platinum and palladium is a good thing. Remember this is only an opinion and certainly not investment advice. Besides I love Montana!

    Jeff,

    I agree with the concepts you discuss that the term Progressive is in fact regressive, oppressive and it promotes the collective at the expense of individuals and individual rights. I agree that “Progressivism” is destructive to a society such as ours that was built on individual freedoms and freedom from government tyranny.
    I also agree that the politicians and mainstream news outlets often use language in order to conceal, misdirect and deceive for the ends of manipulating public opinion.

    Where our opinion seems to differ is on this; It is my belief that the term Progressive is not a meaningless word. It is in fact a word (buzz-word if you will) that is being planted in our discourse and in our minds in order to form public perception of that word, and frame it as a positive and beneficial concept. My understanding of the words “Progressive” & “Progressivism” is that they have been specifically selected and intended to create an idea in our minds that it is a movement towards a positive direction. However, in reality, Progressivism is a move toward “Collectivism”, a world in which a centralized governing or controlling body can regulate the actions and lives of every individual in such a way as to place the individual in something much like a servant class.

    I appreciate you discussion of this topic. Maybe it’s a matter of terminology, but I felt it necessary to make this point.

    All the best to you.

      Rich and Jeff,
      Sophistry is a fine language art in communism.
      Call it liberalism, collectivism, progressivism…whateverism it is still the same slavery!
      Hayek coined : “Collectivism is slavery” however when the individual is being domesticated he tends not to see the corral being built around him.

      I provide a link to a battle of words from today’s “Squawk Box” when there was a rare call on the manipulation of words…you may find interesting.

      The worst example of word manipulation was when modern liberalism stole the word liberal and reversed its meaning.
      The Federal Reserve System could be more accurately described as a Cabal,

    Jeff,
    I was surprised to hear you characterize the “Randian” view of individualism and proper human interaction as “coldly calculating.” When rational individuals trade for mutual benefit, everyone involved has improved their situation. Cold? No. It’s warm, it’s inviting, it celebrates the best in people.

      Jan 23, 2013 23:57 AM

      Collectivism = Cold
      Individualism = Cuddly

      Jan 23, 2013 23:10 PM

      Melinda-
      I agree completely, I just find the Randian/Objectivist approach off putting and needlessly antagonistic.

      Clearly the state is the real enemy of society, while mutually beneficial trade is a foundation of society.

    Very interesting segment. I find myself thinking of the recent “IDLE NO MORE” native protests. To me and most right-thinking individuals, that label connotes PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY. The reality is quite the contrary! The natives are making demands to halt important resource and infrastructure projects, punish industry, increase spending for social programs, and generally become MORE IDLE!

    We saw something similar with the “Occupy” protests, the bulk of whose protestors had no “occupation.”

    Rosa Koire has a good short piece about the push for collectivism “To save the planet” as part of Agenda 21:

      HUGE problem! Only exnilaps the risk model poorly. Health insurance has a fiduciary responsibility to the SHARE-holder not the POLICY-holder. This means that companies are required by law to increase the value of a share over the public good Adhering to legality avoiding morality.Save your money spend it instead on good food, use that gym membership/equipment that you bought, get some sleep, turn off the TV, and enjoying your family. That is the best risk mitigation!

    Enjoyed it. Glad you didn’t let Republicans completely off the hook. The Rs of today are the Ds of the 1970s; and the D’s of today are so far out there that I think the History Channel often confuses them with UFO sightings and the second coming of ancient aliens.

    I think we allow ourselves all too often to be herded into linear thinking of the Left and the Right, blah, blah blah, where the solutions to our problems can only be found in the power base of the duopoly we call the US gov’t. That doesn’t even rise to the level of the flat world mentality. Worse still, we are (often forcefully) discouraged from researching social structures and economic models that stray off the L, R model if for no other reason than it threatens the stasis and fiefdoms of the power elite. Rarely, if ever, do we hear anyone in government or ‘anything’ in the mainstream media speak of person freedom or individual responsibility. We live in a 3-D world of x, y & z, yet we’re told our only options are Left and Right of ZERO. Indeed, the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    Cutesy clever smear words are important – never let the opposition define the words. Good points by Jeff and others here. Remember the word controversial ? If the left doesn’t like someone he/she is “controversial.” Remember Randy Weaver, whose family was murdered by federal agents at Ruby Ridge, Idaho? He was usually referred to as “White separatist Randy Weaver” by our good ol’ unbiased medialeft windbags. Since he was a supposed “white separatist” he was fair game. So are “controversial” and “racist” people, which no one can define.
