I also almost fell out of my chair when I heard Kerry make an utter fool of himself.

I just hope we don’t get involved further, because we will NOT win this one.

      Mar 03, 2014 03:30 AM

Nobody will win this one hO!

I think Putin will get exactly what he wants, just as he did in Georgia.

He will annex Crimea without firing a shot.

disagree with Bob over WWII starting. It started because there were treaty obligations between various European countries, which were honored. The start for the US was different.

Sorry, I misunderstood what Bob was saying…..WWI not WWII. He is right.

        Regarding WW1, yep he was.

Kinda funny, awhile back I think on 321 gold was an article saying that 25% of americans believe the sun revolves around the earth.
Other articles talk about how many americans can find the U.S. on a globe.

Not hard to understand how americans believe what their told.

Bob is right about that nobody started ww1. The assassination was BS just as so many other times people have been lied to.
Troop movement is as good an explanation I can find for ww1.

Bob is also right about Japan attacking Hawii.

Anyway, the Ukrainians seem to be swearing alegance to the Crimean people.
    Special forces,navy etc.
On cbc last night a reporter actualy asked a protester if he was being paid by the americans.

To me,it looks like the Ukrainian people understand whats going on.
    They don’t want war.

As for Bob speaking from the heart?
Not the way I see it.
Bob is informed and has studied a little history, he is mearly telling people the truth.

kwn Paul Craig Roberts says things very well, “What we have to be worried about is just how stupid the americn leadership is”

    Mar 03, 2014 03:08 AM

    Dang, CNN headline

    BRINK OF DISASTER
Ukraine mobilizes troops after Russia’s ‘declaration of war’

This is sounding more and more like the start of WW1 but in the 21st century.

Well boys I reckon this is it….nuclear combat toe to toe with the rooskies…

    The Russian side of things:

I have not been able to pull up Izvestia. Don’t know if that is due to heavy traffic or US censorship.

      Mar 03, 2014 03:40 AM

      I’d bet on censorship.

      Mar 03, 2014 03:32 AM

I don’t think it is censorship, but I will look into it. Thanks hO!

        Mar 03, 2014 03:38 AM

Just phoned Bob and he agrees that Izvestia is not censored in the U.S. will verify that.

Just verified. It is available in the U.S.

Just listened to this again. Bob makes a great point that Putin invades is absurd..
    thing is people believe it,
The point he makes that we are in the same position as 1914 is astute.

Looks kinda like occupying the sudetenland tho.

The Ukrainian people are already forming another government in Crimea, their military supports it.

Maybe gold drops to Docs $1290 ish when everyone realises that Putin outplays Obama and his “allies” yet again.

This is why most “liberal” debates should be confined to classroom.
The collectivists should be free to shout all they want in debate club and moot court.
I am all for liberty except I am also for limiting the likes of John Kerry to only be able to babble inside the fantasy world called academia.
The most dangerous thing facing us today are college professors attempting their ideaology in the real world.

          Mar 03, 2014 03:03 AM

Dennis………But they learned it from a book, therefore it must be right….The problem with these people is , they have no understanding of the real world……….PAINT MY ROSE’S RED !!!!!…….KERRY OFF WITH HIS HEAD.

            But IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I threw my undeserved medals over the Whitehouse fence.
There was media coverage I called….. so there is video to prove it.
This is John Kerry’s best season to fight after all he is a “Winter Soldier”!
What a farce this Ghangis Khan guy is now Sec. of State.

          hO
          Mar 03, 2014 03:20 AM

Kerry was never an academic. After a stint as assistant DA in Boston, he entered politics and worked with Dukakis. I personally don’t think he has the brains to be a good lawyer; hence his entry into politics.

            Mar 03, 2014 03:42 AM

Did not realize that hO, thank you.

          Mar 16, 2014 16:01 PM

Sorry, I don’t understand who you are referring to. (The president?)

      Mar 03, 2014 03:41 AM

      Could not agree more Esq!

    Mar 03, 2014 03:54 AM

I think Bob Moriarty is correct.

    Mar 03, 2014 03:56 AM

Watch what MERKEL is doing, she would rather play checkers with PUTIN……Unlike OBAMA who is challenging PUTIN to a game of chess………”FOOL”.

      Mar 03, 2014 03:43 AM

Yep Mr. Irish, I don’t think that he is able to do that effectively.

        Mar 03, 2014 03:02 PM

To hell with what the West or NATO can or cannot do. Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Rumania, Turkey any one or all of those countries could act independent of NATO to coalesce around Eastern Ukraine. Those surely are some of the inflammatory sparks Bob M is on about.

these elected leaders think because the media buys everything they say, Putin and rest of world will likewise buy their bullcrap.

Just like the kids today are told how great they are in everyti8ng–they believe it and its a set up for a downfall.

    Mar 03, 2014 03:24 PM

Bob, hystorical persepctive cannot be reconsturcted inorder to create the outcme you desire. You view is my view. Our media is ignoring the fact that this disruption in the Ukraine is a false flag event. By ignoring the truth they are helping to stir up the Russians and cause them to take stronger measures inorder to insure their right to access the Black Sea. If common sense prevailed it would make emminent sense to the media that Russia cannot be denied access to the Black Sea. But sense the world no longer uses common sense we are left facing the strong possibility of conflict and war. If anyone ever wondered the importance of honest and open reporting of facts and information, this event might be a real example for the media too da its job and not just report based on government sources. Maybe we can all understand why the media was largely ignored and fround upon during the French Revolution. Napoleon had no great love for reorters and the news.

      Mar 04, 2014 04:35 AM

I don’t see a war. Just guys standing around waiting.

        Mar 04, 2014 04:38 AM

I mean to say, Bob is just hyping this a little too much for my liking. There is a great big fat knee jerk reaction taking place over pretty much nothing. This is hardly a blitzkreig. Mostly it is theater. Putin has hardly said a word. The only people being affected are the people who watch the news.

        Mar 04, 2014 04:33 AM

        Inclined to agree BM.

We (the West) make the mistake of thinking Ukraine has to chose between East or West, just like we did with Georgia. These countries are in Russia’s back yard and are a core interest for them, Russia is never going to let them go Anti-Russian!! This is not a problem to be solved, it is a problem to be managed. Rather than make a polarizing decision between the East or West, Ukraine needs to maintain friendly relations with Russia AND the West. The U.S. SCREWED the Ukraine by emboldening them to reject their historical ties with Russia and revolt. Sen John McCain stood on a stage in Kiev with Klitchko saying we support their “freedom” and so forth….where are we now? Just like in Georgia we are going to shake a finger, talk tough, and do nothing. The US under the leadership of the Oboma is a terrible partner, like our “leader” we talk really good and have no substance to back it up. Sec Kerry and Sec Hagel were on Face the Nation Sunday and could not explain what national interest we have in Ukraine other than “we support freedom”. BS! the US is not supporting freedom in Ukraine, it is emboldening a crisis that it has no intention of following through on. Oh, by the way, we are cutting the military to levels not seen since before WWII….obviously there is a disconnect somewhere in Washington if we think that we must support freedom around the world, embolden disgruntled factions to overthrow their government, protest Russian aggression, and simultaneously slash the military …..what is the strategy Mr President…is there something from your vast experience as a community organizer that you can use now? or is this just year #6 of the Obama-nation amateur hour?

PS I am embarrassed to look a Ukrainian in the eye and say I am an American.

Ukraine need financial assistance NOW and they need a non-polarized, friendly relationship with both the East and the West.

      cfs
      Mar 03, 2014 03:59 PM

I believe there are few countries in the world that believe anything Obama says or threatens to do. He is not trusted by anyone. In fact, in many countries he is a laughing stock.
Look how he has repeatedly stabbed Israel in the back. A good job that they now listen, but ignore him.

      Mar 04, 2014 04:34 AM

No doubt Ukraine will eventually get their money. There is far more cooperation between the worlds leaders than there is genuine disharmony. There is not a war in Ukraine at the moment in any case and there is not a real threat of war either. Just bluster so far. Look past the headlines to see what is happening elsewhere that is being blocked by the 24/7 news reels about a complete non-event.

Then why did the Brits release a mass murder/terrorist that blew up American citizens flying at 30,000 feet? What was that all about?

Britain is more of a dependent of the US than anything, and since WW II America has spent tons of money and blood trying to keep as much of the British Empire of old for its cronies as possible. The revolution in Iran immediately after WW II was just the beginning, and on and on across the Mid East and Africa.

Art Cashin of KWN speaks of Russian rouble plunging, while the Ukraine is haemorrhaging money with banks capping personal withdrawals to $1500 per day.

As of 4 March (10.20 am GMT) Ukraine hryvnia exchange rate has descended to 9.7 to the dollar.

      Mar 04, 2014 04:09 AM

If one wanted to punish Russia the place to start would be by attacking the Ruble. Next you would block gas, oil and fertilizer exports. Of course those would lead to terrible reactionary outcomes so we hope it does not descend to that level but the Ruble sell off does not surprise me one bit nor does capital flight from the empire. It will predictably lead to rising inflation rates and increases in interest as the economy undergoes a loss of buying power and dollars are drained out. Guns are not even required to fight this kind of war as most of the damage happens in the economic sphere where credit worthiness, bond markets, currency devaluation and trade are all impacted as a consequence of behavior that is objectionable. I am not so sure that Russia should not be asserting rights in Crimea however. If I were Putin I would do the same. Who would not where strategic ports and other economic interests look threatened by a regional conflict outside your control?

        bj
        Mar 04, 2014 04:59 AM

Obviously there’s going to be a run on the banks pulling rubles out of the system, thus creating a shortage within the system, ergo less liquidity for the bankers and investors–including foreign banks & foreign investors.

Thus, I wonder how much of the ruble’s plunge in the exchanges is due to naked short sellers attacking the ruble–and by whom with deep enough pockets to do such a thing And too, given that Russia exports lots of natural resources–energy and agriculture–can this attack on the ruble be sustained without collateral damage to Russia’s trading partners (EU et al)–especially those nations who people heat/ac their houses and want to eat 3 square meals a day.

Given the global nature of the energy and agricultural commodities markets the question becomes how do you fire away to make your adversary dance without shooting yourself in the foot?

          Mar 04, 2014 04:13 AM

Good question BJ. It is why war does not usually pay. The whole broken window paradox is so filled with fallacies it begs to be made a key part of the economics curriculum at university. Alas, too few learn of it until after they graduate and have already had their education ruined by the ideas that wars are what really solves deep economic crisis.

    Mar 04, 2014 04:23 AM

I don’t understand why the Ukraine needs a military in the first place, to defend against whom? the Russians? well start defending then and move onto the offensive,

    Mar 04, 2014 04:34 AM

Reverend, the Raiffeisen Bank and Bank Austria Limits are less than $150/Day….

    Mar 04, 2014 04:38 AM

Don’t shit where you Eat! The Ukrain needs Russia not the other Way around (economicaly speaking of course).

    Mar 04, 2014 04:28 AM

It is not “The Ukraine”, but simply “Ukraine”. “The Ukraine” is an insult to Ukrainians as “The Ukraine” implies a part of a larger entity, namely Russia. The situation there is far more complex than reflected in the interview or most press coverage in the US.

    Mar 05, 2014 05:49 AM

sorry Bob, you may be good at finding mining juniors, but please leave geopolitics in Europe alone, it is not your cup of tea… I agree with the previous poster, please start using the English language, the country is called Ukraine.
