Putin wrote an OPED in the NY Times where he criticized US “exceptionalism”. Lets face it Obama is one arrogant guy…just watch him strut to the podium before he speaks. But there are grounds for US exceptionalism based on our form of government. The Federalist Papers is a superb book that contains the essays of the original formers of the constitution and explain the ideas that were so innovative at the time. The problem is that we have deviate from the original tenets of the constitution that made this country exceptional. The mistake we as Americans make is to think that just because with have the biggest military and biggest economy in the world we are exceptional. No! the freedom of action and ability to apply individual initiative are what made this nation exceptional. The further we drift from those ideals, the more we impose our ideas on others without respecting their freedom to choose the future they desire, the less exceptional we become.
