“Nevada Standoff a Symptom of Increasing Authoritarianism” — Ron Paul’s Weekly Column
The nation’s attention has for the past few weeks been riveted by a standoff in Nevada between armed federal agents and the Bundys, a ranching family who believe the federal government is exceeding its authority by accessing “fees” against ranchers who graze cattle on government lands. Outrage over the government’s use of armed agents to forcibly remove the Bundys’ cattle led many Americans to travel to Nevada to engage in non-violent civil disobedience in support of the family.
Contract law. He was being charged well under the going rate to graze less than 100 head of cattle (the most the land could support). He had 900 head on the land and was refusing to pay grazing fees. Sounds like a thief. Plus if you ever dealt with farming, over grazing can destroy land for decades.
Contract law………is only as good as the two people making it……….
I did not realize that. Thanks har
In my opinion Steven, small government is good government!
Funny how he has no problem taking away the ranchers in Nebraska’s land to build a pipeline so corporations can more easily export oil/ng overseas on the backs of the U.S. taxpayer.
This is what I don’t understand. I heard that this ranchers neighbors have been paying for their cattle to graze on the governments land. If this is true why shouldn’t this rancher. What makes this rancher free from any obligation?
I am not in agreement that armed forces need to come in to collect though.
From what I know about this situation Condita, I would have to agree with you. I would have thought that a simple court action would have been the preferable govt. action however.
I have no problem with government acting decisively to solve problems within a limited number of areas of responsibility. However government has grown too big and needs to be downsized and made to focus on its core real areas of endeavor. Diplomacy, defense, transport, communication, the mint, revenue collection, national parks and justice.
Let the people and lesser governing entities handle the rest if they choose to.
