Theralase’s Cancer Technology Demonstrates Vaccine-Like Properties

June 17, 2014

A special thank you CFS for bringing this headline to our attention. There was so much interest in the company after last week’s weekend special that we will be sure to follow this story very closely.

Whitefish, MT / June 16, 2014 / Conventional cancer treatment involves surgically removing cancerous tumors and then killing the remaining cells with toxic chemotherapy drugs. Unfortunately, these approaches involve invasive surgeries and the indiscriminant killing of cells that lead to the immune system being compromised. The success rates for these treatments, particularly in later stage cancers, also leave a lot to be desired.

Companies like Galena Biopharma (GALE), Inovio Pharmaceuticals (NYSE MKT: INO), and ImmunoCellular Therapeutics (IMUC) have tried to empower the patient’s own immune system to selectively target cancer cells rather than killing indiscriminately. The idea is to create a kind of cancer vaccine that separates proteins from cancer cells and immunizes patients against those proteins to stimulate an immune reaction.

In this article, we’ll take a look at a different non-invasive approach that’s achieves similar vaccine-like properties using the power of light.

Killing Cancer with Light

Theralase Technologies Inc. (TLTFF) (TLT.V), a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of patented super-pulsed laser technologies used in eliminating pain and destroying cancer, has taken a different variation of that approach by introducing Photo Dynamic Compounds (“PDCs”) into cancerous cells and then killing those cells by exposing them to cold laser light.

In preclinical animal testing at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network (“UHN”), the company injected mice with 350,000 colon cancer cells to produce tumors that grew to 5mm in size. They were subsequently treated with an intra-tumoral injection of the firm’s lead PDC and exposed to Near InfraRed (“NIR”) light to activate the PDCs and destroy the vast majority of tumors.

Vaccine-like Properties

The same mice that received the initial PDCs were re-injected with the same number of colon cancer cells 13 to 23 days later. Interestingly, with no further treatment intervention, 40% of the mice demonstrated either a small tumor regrowth that quickly regressed or in 60% of the mice, no tumor regrowth at all. The results suggest a short-term immune-mediated (“memory response”) tumor rejection with vaccine-like properties.

Approximately 10 months after that injection, the same mice were injected for a third time with 350,000 additional colon cancer cells. 100% of the mice showed no signs of tumor regrowth, even at a 3-month follow-up, suggesting the presence of a long-term anti-tumor (“memory response”) immunity responsible for complete tumor rejection. Mice in control experiments did not survive longer than a month following the cancer cell injection.

Potential Implications

The potential for short-term and long-term anti-cancer memory response – or vaccine-like properties, would represent a major breakthrough in cancer research and provide substantial treatment benefit and survival advantage to cancer patients. In addition to the immunity, the patented therapy’s potential to rapidly kill patient-specific cancer cells and regress tumors provides the immediate efficacy needed.

“This is one of the first preclinical trials to show that it’s possible to generate long-term anticancer memory response,” said Theralase CSO Dr. Arkady Mandel. “For the first time in our research program, we have demonstrated that NIR Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) leads not only to long standing clearance of colon cancer cells, but also provides long lasting protection against further tumor cell challenge in young and older mice.”

Looking Ahead

Theralase Technologies plans on continuing its pre-clinical studies to confirm the findings for a range of induced and spontaneous animal tumor models. Once the results have been adequately tested on animals, researchers hope to replicate the characteristics in humans and demonstrate the same efficacy. Successful results in humans could have immense implications on the war on cancer.

With a market capitalization of just $17.6 million, investors have the opportunity to buy into a promising cancer-fighting technology, as well as an existing pain management franchise that already generates revenue. Clinical trials on humans are slated for early 2015 and the potential for strategic partnerships and additional clinical results along the way could catalyze the stock higher.

My concern is the timeline to go through three phases. Typically that might be 3-7 years

      Jun 17, 2014 17:11 PM

I would think closer to 2-3 years once the first human trials start for FDA approval

My concern is the competition. There will be great winners in this space, including suffering people.

      Goldman, Brian and Professor,

      These are all valid concerns.

I am buying maybe $4k to $7k worth of stock on Wednesday or very soon thereafter as a long term investment.

Now I think I know where some of the gold came from recently for shorting.

Makes sense because by my estimates GLD cupboards contained paper only.

I wonder about cancer cures, some years ago a show called “60 minutes” took the hour to talk about for separate Doctors in 4 different countries all finding the exact same cure with the exact same “cure numbers” working with patients after kemotherapy etc.
All were of the opinion that were they to have access to patients before the accepted practices their cures would be close to 100%.
These doctors worked entirely independent of one another, longer story shorter, the American cancer people administered the drug incorrectly in all 4 cases and all the doctors lost their licences, all 4 Doctors believed and concluded that should a cure be found a billion dollar research industry would be lost, some people equated the economic effect to be relative to the size of the war between the states.

I don’t know but our society is corrupt top to bottom imo.

You believe everything 60 minutes reports is true, without any other agenda. ? ! ?
Perhaps half of what you read on the internet is without an agenda and may be true.

As regards TV……Everything passes an agenda, but some of it is true.

Nothing you read or hear is true cfs, and only half what you see. This is from Mr Norcini since you were mentioning gold etf holdings.

GLD loses 4.2 tons of gold

It has been nearly two weeks since we have had an updated report of what the current gold holdings are in the large gold ETF, GLD. We finally got one today.

The new number came in 4.2 tons below the last reported tonnage. GLD is now holding 782.88 tons.

That this is occurring against a backdrop of events in Iraq tells me that large traders/investors are using the current geopolitical rally in the yellow metal to sell.

I had remarked some three weeks ago that the first sizeable jump in gold holdings ( nearly 8.4 tons back on May 27th) was the first good news that gold has had in some time. What I wanted to see was whether or not this was the start of a new trend among Western-based investors or more or less a flash in the pan brought on by some value-based buying that was a one-off type of transaction.

From that point, GLD only added another 1.8 tons before today’s fairly sizeable drop.

    From Jim Sinclair’s JSMINESET.COM

OK, in perspective, the value of all stock markets on the planet added together are about $62 trillion, now it is revealed that $29 trillion or so has come from the world’s central banks. How did this happen? Do central banks have an extra $29 trillion to throw around? The answer of course is no they do not… unless they just print it up and presto, there it is ready and able for whatever folly they choose. For a little more perspective, the Federal Reserve supposedly has a total balance sheet of some $4.5 trillion or about 15% of this $29 trillion (I dropped the “.1” because it’s only $100 billion). But, this $4.5 trillion is all accounted for as being invested in Treasuries, agencies and some “junkier stuff.” Please don’t tell me that the world’s central banks are doing something that the Fed is not… or worse, the Fed is doing something that they are not admitting or accounting for!

Do you understand what this really means? The Fed (central banks) own nearly 50% of all stocks. This means that yes, stocks are REALLY manipulated and the tin foil hat crew was right again. It means that central banks can keep on creating fake money and putting that money into stocks to create fake(r) values… or …they can tank all of the stock markets worldwide at will with the press of a single button that has the word “sell” on it.

Going even further down the rabbit hole, this means that central banks own nearly half of the equity in all publicly held businesses. It means that by simply printing money, they have “privatized” the world! Of course, there is no telling as to when exactly this scheme started but let’s assume that sometime late in 2008 or early ’09 would be a good guess. The markets needed support AND it was a good entry level. Maybe this was something that “just happened” and then morphed into its current size? Maybe it wasn’t on purpose? I doubt this is the case as everything is orchestrated today, as the CIA is well known for saying, “there are no coincidences.” Who will the central banks sell to if the want out? Ahh, but why would they want out when they hold almost a majority position of the entire world.

So, we have wondered how the stock markets have done what they have done and we wondered how in the U.S. the markets have done well while the Fed has tapered their QE by $1/2 trillion annualized. Now we know, $500 billion is a puissant number that has been camouflaged by other, massive buying. Gold investors have also “wondered” how gold could go down in price while physical demand has far outstripped the actual supply. “We” have told you how for a long time now, all the while being called tin foil hat wearing conspiracy freaks. We told you that at least 100 ounces of paper gold were being created to divert capital away from the real thing. We told you that these paper ounces were being used to dilute the real thing and hide what was actually happening. Do you believe us now?

Now that it turns out that an extra $29 trillion has been printed and put to work you must ask yourself several questions. First, if it was so easy to create all of this money (in the dark) and it is so plentiful, what is the money itself worth? What is it REALLY worth? Also, if the markets are where they are because of unnatural buying, where would they be trading on their own? How much lower? If gold is priced where it is today because there are 99 fakes out there for every real ounce then what is a real ounce worth if it is actually 99 times more rare? An even better question is this, if central banks were the sellers of real tangible gold for so many years and the conspiracy nuts are correct (as usual it seems lately) and the coffers are low, THEN what is an ounce worth?

I think I mentioned the possibility of the fed or government ending up owning all market shares. The new method of implementing socialism maybe.
Neat to hear one for the “tin foil hats” tho.

My pharmisicst mentioned disruptions in the supply of drugs yesterday, I mentioned the “tin foils” talking about this happening years ago. (gave him some sites to read)

Mentioning to some people I worked with a few years ago they laughed at the time of course.
Kind of a clue just how surprised some people may be with events from time to time I think.
