THE MIDDLE EAST WILL GO CRAZY !!!!!!!!! NO WW3 !!!!!!!!

        Jul 18, 2014 18:14 PM

I think that in these two examples Franky, I do agree with you.

God is the way – Felt that way for a long time.

Middle East will go crazy – Already crazy and will go even crazier!

    Jul 18, 2014 18:20 PM

Nothing stops this market. Relief rally-Chris is right we are back to the “normal” situation where stocks go up everyday. This can’t last- but it does!
Cory you are right re geo political event investing. Not only are geopolitical events unpredictable- you can never be sure you are getting all the facts from the reporting that you need to analyze what might happen. Better to stick with fundamentals and pay attention to what the technical analysts have to say re the charts.

I don’t think we are going to see anything meaningful until October when they stop QE. Unless something breaks between now and October, it’s smooth sailing. Kevin Henry and the boys at the NY Fed have everything under control.

        Jul 18, 2014 18:43 PM

They do seem to have things under control.

My theory is that the dollar and treasuries are supported by QE (the printing press is the new gold standard because people buy dollars and U.S. T bonds because they know the Fed will ) and that once that support is pulled (and there is no organized replacement buyer) gold and silver will take off and the dollar will drop.

      Jul 18, 2014 18:00 PM

Many thanks for this one, Chris

    Jul 18, 2014 18:45 PM

Nothing to see here- it’s just the second largest bank in Portugal- Oh the largest defaulted too? What’s Portugal just a small country.
Read this propaganda: from CNN why there is nothing to worry about re Portugal:
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/07/10/investing/portugal-bank/index.html

      Jul 18, 2014 18:51 PM

If you’re taking advice from CNN you deserve to lose all your money. BTW, is CNN still relevant?

Notice the news comes out on Friday……..people do not care…..the EAGLE FLYS today,,,it is TGIF………….besides most people could not find Portugal on the map.

          Jul 18, 2014 18:26 PM

“People do not care.” You can say that again. I was talking to my neighbour yesterday and he didn’t know there was a war going on in Ukraine. But he has become an expert on the situation over there and has told me that it’s Putin’s fault… you know, because the media said so. Anyway, this is the same guy who doesn’t understand why nobody has bough his shack built in 1962. I told him the housing bubble has popped and no one in their right mind will pay you $550,000 for your shack.

            Jul 18, 2014 18:27 PM

Chris the media has told them there is a housing recovery too when there isn’t.

          Jul 18, 2014 18:27 PM

Portugal Telecom is out $1 billion because of the first Portuguese bank default
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/16/portugal-bes-pt-idUSL6N0PR1H220140716?feedType=RSS and had to take a reduced stake in a merger. Certainly there are others that are impacted and will be impacted as this thing cascades, but you are right it’s Friday and where is Portugal anyway?

            Jul 18, 2014 18:31 PM

Let’s see how many dominos will fall over the next couple of days. Anyway, it’s Friday, no time for thinking.

            Jul 18, 2014 18:37 PM

            Ok will check on tomorrow!

            Jul 18, 2014 18:04 PM

Portugal is a little island off the coast of China!

          Jul 18, 2014 18:03 PM

At least at the point in the day! Remember the “eagle flies” as the old Lou Rawls song goes.

      Jul 18, 2014 18:02 PM

Thank you for this great reporting CNN.

Your “take” is always so accurate!

    Jul 18, 2014 18:09 PM

To some people cnn, msnbc fox etal are still watched and believed. You would think that the markets would have reacted negatively to the Portuguese news.
The Dominos are starting to fall- it’s a flaw and people think its a feature.

    Jul 18, 2014 18:30 PM

Guess I am on the other side of the trade here Chris because I see that the VIX is about to start rising again, that wheat and corn will be on the rise along with crude and that all the US markets are heading straight into a correction next week. I believe commodities and equities will invert and that it will come as a big surprise to most people. I just do not think this is business as usual and we should not fall asleep at the wheel here. We still have to get through the weekend and it could be a wild ride considering the setups in motion. Sunday should be interesting.

      Jul 18, 2014 18:38 PM

Bird, I am on the same side as you. Sooner or later something is going to break. But the million dollar question is, has the Fed run out of ammunition? If not, the insanity will continue for a little while. If yes, they will lose control, fast. As you said, Sunday is going to be interesting. Too much going on in the world, and it’s not the time to fall asleep at the wheel.

        Jul 18, 2014 18:03 PM

Just curious Chris…..are you Chris Temple or another Chris? Just so I know who I am addressing. The confusion arose because Chris started to post as “Temple” and then I was not sure who the original Chris was…….

By the way, check the charts for the S&P, Dow, Nasdaq and the Russell. I have a little more than a gut feeling Monday will be a downer. Maybe just seeing things but I doubt it. A summer correction is in the cards so we should be on guard.

          Jul 18, 2014 18:05 PM

          Nope. Another Chris.

            Jul 18, 2014 18:50 PM

I can stop calling you Mr. Chris now!

            Jul 18, 2014 18:59 PM

            As you please, Mr. Birdman.

      Jul 18, 2014 18:27 PM

      Birdman,

No one knows for sure when market volatility will reappear in a meaningful way over the next few months, but you can rest assured that at some point extreme volatility is coming back into the markets.

If investors/traders can remain prudent and grounded and not get greedy and use their dry powder wisely and maintain a good barometer on market conditions, products like the VIX can be a fabulous trading tool to use.

The mining ETF’s going forward are also going to be insanely profitable paper trading tools as well.

Like anything in the market, use them wisely and don’t go on margin in any form to buy these vehicles.

      Jul 18, 2014 18:06 PM

Great for me because we are currently vacationing on a little island off the coast of China (I think it is called Portugal) courtesy of our “what’s in your wallet” credit card with a $100K limit that I just got in the mail!

    Jul 18, 2014 18:34 PM

Do you remember when you graduated from High School and the friends you made, the genial atmosphere and the feelings of comradeship. I would like to see a time where people were regarded as folks and neighbors. A time when there is less prying into others affairs and a period of trust where there is at least a semblance of a normal ordinary existence.

    Jul 18, 2014 18:53 PM

Same song as provided under Al’s insights DT.

It’s great to here Merle Haggard, it reminds of a time when we would meet in London Ontario and listen to Jimmy Reeves singing ” POP A TOP”.
