Like all markets Gold is manipulated. Since it is really is such a small physical market, banks cannot make money from it, they needed to expand its size. This is one reason why paper derivatives were invented, to increase their fees. Physical gold is dug out of the ground then locked in a vault, there is little trading volume, paper gold, which has no resemblance to gold trades at insane volumes. This has led to paper setting the price, which is lucky for stackers and gamblers alike. Know which one you are before you buy. If you can think like the banks, then you can trade gold.

Until the comex breaks, gold stays cheap.

Very good thoughts from Chris Temple on gold as insurance/inflation hedge versus those that are constantly perma-bulls (even in bear markets). We’ll have to see if the institutional investors and larger investing marketplace starts migrating some money flows over to the PMs when there is a narrative change in the sector.

Having said that, the mining stocks themselves are unique companies with their own individual fundamental drivers, and some can still do great and make big moves even if the PM prices trend sideways for a period. Obviously the underlying commodity price is still important and can accelerate moves in either direction.

Good interview Al & Cory & Chris!

As mentioned to Al before, I think Martin Armstrong on the show (esp. WE show) would be a great plus to the site. A fresh perspective compared to some of the blablabla out there.

    My 2 cts.

    Best,

I agree. It would be great to hear Martin speaking directly to the group. I think Al has tried before though and not got a positive answer.

Yes, it would be interesting to hear from MA sometime on the show for another perspective. LPG, so you’re not into the blablabla out there? 🙂

        Hello Shad,

        Hope you’re well.

It just think Martin provides a refreshing and interesting perspective.
I started reading his blog on a daily basis this year (only this year… I was late to the party… I know), and honestly, I hardly ever find it a waste of time.

I believe that there are many misconceptions out there, most notably due to the fact that people don’t “study” history properly and are often adepts of linear thinking –> recipe for disaster when put together when it comes to investing.

In my book, Martin tends to excel in the field of history. That’s where a good part of his edge comes from, IMHO. And, among other things… you also have Socrates 🙂

        Best to you as always,

        LPG

Yes Martin provides an interesting perspective, but he does tend to attract a cult following. He is definitely sharp though, just not as infallible in reasoning as his of avid super-fans insist. However, getting him on the weekend show would be fantastic.

Lacker is beginning to sound like an Austrian as he calls for an end to the ELA (Emergency Lending Authority) and says TBTF banks should be allowed to fail without a bailout from the public. Short article but its interesting from a policy perspective as what he is saying runs counter to what many here believe about the Feds outlook on saving banks.

That was interesting on the US possibly working more closely with China on their space initiatives and a potential change in NASA directives. Good one Franky!
