I am surprised Bloomberg didnt fire this guy…..he is exactly right in his analysis…except China gold holidings are probably significantly higher than what he stated. Rickards could take some lessons from this guy. Get right to the point. Although I was concerned about the market a couple of months ago, I disagree with Big Al’s concern at this moment in time. This is because I see the bond market going down before the stock market. There are still billions of dollars sitting in money market funds and CDs. As CDs mature this money has to go elsewhere for higher interest rates. As money markets break the buck, likewise, some of that money will also move into the only place where non-zero interest rates can be obtained; the stock market. Just my fundamental analysis conclusions! Also rotation between sectors can still be observed. Healthcare/pharma/biotech continues strongly. Consumer spending and financials are not weak at this time. Thus there are still areas in which it is reasonable to invest.
I see some weakness in oil, but believe that to be range ($50-70) bound. Demand in the US is dropping, but Chindia increasing. (and dollar decreasing)
Some relatively safe companies in the oil space still have good yields and dividends.
There may also be increased M & A activity in this space.

Gold stocks and NOT the price of gold lead the price out of a bear markets. There are several gold stocks (not the majors) leading the way out of this bear. It is TOO easy to be a bear on gold right now. There are also way too many gold/silver shorts out there and bearish sentiment is extremely high. I wouldn’t discount a rally in gold that fleeces the bears right here. Mr market tends to counter “conventional wisdom” and that “wisdom” says gold is going down. It feels like it is too easy of a call for that to actually happen. Sure, I could be wrong but I would exercise caution if I was trying to short this bear right here.

Craig Hemke is spot on with his assessment of how gold is being priced. The paper game certainly trumps the physical. I got a good chuckle from the comment, ” the price would go down if there was a lot of physical gold to hit the market “. Which he thinks won’t happen.
However, it is going to happen. And it’s going to happen soon ,when these countries repatriate their gold holdings.
I see a big pop coming in gold to around 1225 to 1235 taking out the short positions. Then the drop, which could be the phyz hitting the market.

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned-out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask.

A post-mortem test revealed that the man died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clothed diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire.

It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the man went diving off the coast, some 20 miles from the forest. The fire fighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as possible, had called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and emptied at the site of the forest fire.

You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the next, he was doing the breast stroke in a fire dip bucket 300 feet in the air.

While the attendants were loading her husband, the wife managed to right the motorcycle and push it outside. She also quickly blotted up the spilled gasoline with some paper towels and tossed them into the toilet.

After being treated and released, the man returned home, looked at the shattered patio door and the damage done to his motorcycle. He went into the bathroom and consoled himself with a cigarette while attending to his business. About to stand, he flipped the butt between his legs.

The wife, who was in the kitchen, heard a loud explosion and her husband screaming. Finding him lying on the bathroom floor with his trousers blown away and burns on his buttocks, legs and groin, she once again phoned for an ambulance.. The same paramedic crew was dispatched.

As the paramedics carried the man down the stairs to the ambulance they asked the wife how he had come to burn himself. She told them. They started laughing so hard, one slipped, the stretcher dumping the husband out. He fell down the remaining stairs, breaking his arm.

Silver Doc and zero hedge are saying Greek markets will be closed Monday.
They wonder if bail ins have begun.

I think if the Greek markets can close, the same thing could happen here.
Not now of course, but if we had a similar debt event.

This is a risk of having anything in the market, crazy maybe, but I think there is a possibility of losing 100%. Have for a long time actually. Possible some brokers shut done too, and not the entire market. Throw in a little capital control and we could be restricted in the amount allowed for withdraw. Getting back to business…..I don’t think that Greece is even the real story despite the fact its getting all the headlines right now. If you want a real worry it is the shadows of a Puerto Rico default trapping a whole lot of people in bond funds that will soon have about zero market liquidity even at escalating rates. Governor Alejandro García Padilla has remarked the debt is unrepayable suggesting haircuts for everyone. In this case that may even mean you if you have money tied up in mutual’s who have exposure. And since that is still widespread there will be pain shared around for average pensioners and investors unlike the case for Greece where much of the debt has already been contained on ECB and European bank balance sheets.

Not much in the American press about Puerto Rico the past days but there is this article from The Guardian that summarizes the issues. Zerohedge has picked up on it today with some recent alarming remarks made by the Governor….

“Creditors must now share the sacrifices…..If they don’t come to the table, it will be bad for them,” said Mr. García Padilla, who plans to speak about the fiscal crisis in a televised address to Puerto Rico residents on Monday evening. “What will happen is that our economy will get into a worse situation and we’ll have less money to pay them. They will be shooting themselves in the foot…..My administration is doing everything not to default. But we have to make the economy grow…..If not, we will be in a death spiral.”

Rather that just make remarks, I think an example of the division than can be caused by a trouble poster, especially around the topics of religion and politics is better selected from your own blog from Jan – April of this year. Eventually even Birdman, who upsets nearly everyone he comes in contact with, realizes the need for moderation, (despite his comments above to the contrary).
