Welcome!

Pretium Resources is a company you should take a look at

August 1, 2015

A very important note to consider since this interview as recorded on Thursday July 30th – Pretium did receive its environmental federal approval ( at the 5:30 mark in the interview).

I like Pretium Resources and have been following them for a while now. Thanks for covering them.

It wasn’t clear to me where the link to their site was so here is their website for anyone interested:

I have a downloaded KWN interview from around 2009 form the more sensible KWN days right near its start, when Bob Quartermain was still at Silver Standard and he was talking about Brucejack and Snowfields before they went out to Pretium. It makes very interesting listening in the context of the grades he has found since then.

I own PDG and asked Doc Postma about it 3 days ago and he said he just sold his PDG and thought it might fall to $3 a share.

      Aug 01, 2015 01:59 AM

I meant to say PVG, not PDG. Got it confused with the old Placer Dome.

      Aug 01, 2015 01:08 AM

Yes I read that discussion Bonzo Barzini, but I think Doc just meant for the short term using technical indicators. I think longer term he is still a fan. I’ve owned Pretium in the past but don’t currently own it, but it is on my watch list. I am interested in taking a position in them when we confirm the lows are in, but definitely want to do it soon before they announce a JV or potential takeover.

        Aug 01, 2015 01:20 PM

BB and Shad; I plan to purchase PVG again in the future all things remaining equal .

          Aug 02, 2015 02:15 PM

Thanks Doc. I figured you were just getting out of the way of the pullback in share price, and would be taking a position again in the future. I did the same thing nad have the same plan.

      Aug 01, 2015 01:08 AM

As you certainly are away, Bonzo, in this crazy market everything is not static. I would suggest (definitely not investment advice) that long term this one will do fine.

Glad to have you give some space to Pretium (PVG). Since this interview the Federal Environmental Assessment giving the green light to the project has been received. Pretium has the cash to complete this years work but it would be nice to have the financing in place for the rest of the capex. Shad, if you study the website about the plans going forward it seems Quartermain and his team will take this through to production by themselves and with the deposit open for expansion in all directio9ns it would be a mistake to sell at this time. If you think that the bottom for the stock is in the future- I think you are mistaken- but I have been wrong before but my money is all in at this point and you could not have my shares until after the first brick is poured.

Hi VOKBLVR – good thoughts on Pretium. It seems you may have misunderstood my prior posts, as I’m not advocating to sell right now (I sold PVG in May around $5.80 along with most of my mining stocks and am actually watching it closely for a good entry point to get back in).

I also believe, that if they do move forward to finance this project later this year, when the bottom may be falling out in the PM space that this may present a challenge in raising the $750 million with minimal dilution to shareholders if their price falls further. So this project could still involve a JV if things get uglier in this space and they can’t raise the money as easily as they think. Even if they do all the financing with banks as indicated in the interview, I could easily see a Major Mining company sweeping in and buying their company and ounces in the ground and spiking the share-price at that time. Actually, I hope this is what happens and I intend to have a large position before that ever happens.

Having said that, there is still a big washout coming in PMs and personally, I do not believe we’ve seen the bottom in the metals or most mining stocks. I am a fan of Pretium, as mentioned above, have owned the stock in the past, and plan on buying it back. I am curious though to see if the Nov 2014 lows at $4.17 will get tested again when the PM sector does have the final washout.

Please understand that I feel Pretium has been a very strong performer, even in a declining metals price, because of the progress they have made. There are other strong companies like Guyana Goldfields, Lake Shore Gold, Claude, Kirkland Lake, Klondex, etc… that have also bucked the average trend. As strong as all those companies are, it would be very wise to note that they also all pulled back sharply when Gold just took a nosedive. So, if we get a further washout in PMs later this year, then they will likely be much cheaper and provide a better entry point. If we get an August pop, then this will help their share prices climb a little higher to start the washout from a higher point, but the sector will be in uncharted waters when the final Wave 5 down begins. When we get confirmation that the Major bottom is in, then I plan on going shopping for pennies on the dollar and going in much heavier in this sector. I am probably only going to play a few key stocks and ETFs for the potential August bounce, but am watching for when the other shoe will drop.

Good luck to you in your investing and I look forward to becoming a shareholder in Pretium again, but not until I see if the Nov 2014 low at $4.17 will get tested.

Bought years ago on the personal recommendation from the late Bob Chapman, think I am down about 90%.

      Aug 01, 2015 01:16 PM

Down 90% on Pretium? It wasn’t even around when Chapman was exercising options!

      Hello Bobby,

Not sure if you are referring to PVG.
But if you are, you CANNOT be down 90% on that stock. You cannot.

Reason is that in a worst case scenario you bought at the exact top/all time high… but the stock is NOT down 90% from that point.

So again, if you were referring to PVG, you can’t be down 90% on that stock => That is GOOD NEWS for you 🙂

      Best to you,

      LPG

Doc- what would change your mind about the juniors… the indexes have been changed recently and are not just juniors anymore.. so Im dubious about these indexes–some miners have done well into this gold price decline..with production falling there would seem to be a shortage in supply fairly soon ongoing–there is also M&A ongoing so anticipating a more positive overall environment might be a fundamental….

      Aug 02, 2015 02:54 PM

Agatha, I’m waiting to see what August brings for the price of gold. As mentioned before, I believe we have 2 scenarios going forward for gold. A rally soon and then a gradual decline over months yet. The second one is a nasty August which if it happens will influence the juniors and major companies for their last move down. Some of the gold company stock technicals still appear very vulnerable for further (last) moves down and until the technicals bottom, I won’t be positive. Having said that, selected positions in good companies at this time shouldn’t be counterproductive in the future—PVG is an example company.

Please elaborate. Bobby, actually “it was Al what”.

      Thanks, man.

        Aug 02, 2015 02:29 AM

Al pretium was around in Chapman’s time. not sure what he was doing but he was touting pretium for sure.
LPG, sorry i was looiking at my tanzanian royalty down 90%
MY pvg is only down 60% total
        4-26-11 paid 9.76 down 49%
        3-6-12 paid 17.13 down 71%
        5-18-12 paid 12.74 down 61%

still not at the $30.00 per share that the promoters were touting. I liked and trusted Bob Chapman and exchanged emails with him often, not sure if he outright lied to me or really believed quarterman could pull off another one.

          Hello Bobby,

          No worries re: PVG.
Sorry to read you still had a 90% loss somewhere.

Best to you and GL investing/trading.

Wow! I am impressed by yor listeners knowledge about PVG.
Like all juniors there is a derisking process. Snowfield and Seabridge’s KSM are on the back burner awaiting much higher gold prices. Pretium’s Brucejack ‘s overall resources are somewhere north of 30 million ounces of which Brucejack’s initial mineable reserves are about 6 million ounces grading 15 grams per ton all located in the Valley of the Kings. I notice that the questions posed about continuity have for the most part been answered but 100% 0f the gold is in 5% of the rock (raisins in the pudding) but the number of raisins has been demonstrated through the initial bulk sample that returned about 20% more ounces than planned at 98% recovery. I am kind of a one trick pony but read the KER ev ery day.

      Aug 02, 2015 02:56 PM

Vokblvr, I don’t think you will be disappointed in your PVG position in the future. Personally, it’s one of the few stocks on my limited list I will purchase heavily into.

        Aug 02, 2015 02:57 PM

I might add I’m hoping their refinancing is well planned out.

        Aug 02, 2015 02:57 PM

        agreed.
