Its about time Big Al, well done!…..long overdue

    KOR = Economics, not religion

      Aug 22, 2015 22:17 AM

We have tried before. This time we will simply spam and trash!

      Aug 22, 2015 22:06 PM

I agree!! Following the market is hard enough!

    Aug 22, 2015 22:19 AM

I agree Al. I come here to get financial insight from a number of intelligent people. However it seems every weekend several individuals end up fighting and at times there is some name calling which does not benefit anyone. I had a few unnecessary arguments with one or two individuals on this site in the past and it does take two for that to happen so I was in part to blame. That was about a year ago. Since then I just post occasionally when I think I have something worth posting. This is one of the few sites that I come to everyday and I hope to be able to continue to say that.

      Aug 22, 2015 22:21 AM

It is going to take more work on our part Mr. Miller to assure that happens. We will certainly do the best that we can.

        Aug 24, 2015 24:35 AM

You do a great job Big Al, as does Cory. This site is one of the few good forums on resource investing, with really great input from a nice group of savvy investors. Heated religious rants, or insulting and name calling don’t create an inviting atmosphere, and don’t accomplish anything constructive. Best to you and thanks for all you do.

    Aug 22, 2015 22:00 AM

That is right. I also don’t understand why people start fighting and insulting here. That is just waste of time. I thought it should be just a place for honest and open discussion on economics and trading. And I apreciate all the advice we get on this page on those matters, let it be in the interviews or on the blog.

    You do good work.

Thanks for everything and good luck!

      Aug 22, 2015 22:38 PM

Thank you Nic. Look for an absence of the BS in the future.

      Best to you,

      Al

      Aug 24, 2015 24:30 AM

      Agreed Nic.

    Aug 22, 2015 22:10 AM

Hi Al, listened to this site everyday over a number of years, it’s my favourite site and you have been kind enough to reply to my emails. My impression is that you are a very reasonable person, so you get my full support in stopping these off-topic emails. Hey Al it’s your site, I’m sure the great majority will go with whatever you feel necessary – for myself reading what I would call ‘hate speech’ from any person under any circumstance is a bit depressing but most of all VERY boring, all the best Nigel

    Aug 22, 2015 22:15 AM

Well spoken Al. Peace to all, A

    Aug 22, 2015 22:48 AM

    Stick it to ’em Al?

      Aug 22, 2015 22:34 PM

Not a question of sticking it to anybody, just a matter of civility
      !

    Aug 22, 2015 22:51 AM

I just hope that James (the crybaby) continues to boycott. 😉

      Aug 22, 2015 22:33 PM

Common Matthew, forget the “crybaby” comment!

        Aug 22, 2015 22:39 PM

Ok, then I’ll leave James with this:

“Condemnation without investigation is the highest form of ignorance.”
        – Albert Einstein

    Aug 22, 2015 22:38 PM

Al, it seems you are handing out an olive branch and some people still are abusing your graciousness.

Is calling someone “cry baby” consistent with the new tone you are hopping actieve on this blog?

I would make Matthew an example.
He was the first one to break the peace you are asking for.
    He hung himself.

      Aug 22, 2015 22:30 PM

Mr. Pittsburgh, we are starting from today on.

    Aug 22, 2015 22:02 PM

Yes Matthew and that Bob Moriarty is allowed to express himself fully and freely., A

      Aug 22, 2015 22:09 PM

      Agreed.

      Aug 22, 2015 22:28 PM

No more Bob’s what people call “hate speech”, Reverend. As I said this is not the place for it.

        Aug 22, 2015 22:51 PM

You are an amazing guy Al. I appreciate all your efforts.

          Aug 22, 2015 22:15 PM

          DITTO!!!

          Aug 22, 2015 22:22 PM

Not sure why you would say that!

            Aug 22, 2015 22:58 PM

Its the personal touch Al. There are not many sites where the audience gets to interact so much with the host and his guests. It’s why you are well loved by most everyone here (except Agatha perhaps who seems to want to pick a bone for no reason at all)

        Aug 22, 2015 22:06 PM

Hate speech? Such labels are tools of repression, Al. You better not criticize Obama either or you’ll be called a racist no matter how legitimate your concerns might be.

You’d have to discredit Bob’s many claims repeatedly to conclude that there’s a hate driven pattern to his comments.

It’s one thing to not want such talk on your site because it strays from the purpose of the site (though I don’t know that it does since politics have always been discussed here), but I can’t respect calling it hate speech. There’s no evidence of that.

“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”
        -Voltaire

Matthew, you are off base with your criticism of Bob M, he backs up all his information with links and recommended reading. DT

            Aug 22, 2015 22:35 PM

Reread what I wrote, DT. There’s no criticism at all.

        Aug 23, 2015 23:59 AM

But I notice hate speech of Islam is still allowed.

        On August 21, 2015 at 3:05 pm,
        CFS says:
Why is the mainstream news so pro-Islamic?
e.g. An Islamic terrorist opens fire today on an Amsterdam-Paris train with
        an AK 47, three wounded.
Reads in the media as unknown person opens fire.
Luckily he was overpowered by 2 US unarmed marines and another person.
Unfortunately the Moroccan terrorist was only roughed up, and did not
receive a broken neck. The wimpy French do not any longer have a death
penalty for terrorist acts. Ah, Mme La Guillotine!

    Aug 22, 2015 22:17 PM

I never saw anything Bob M posted as “hate speech”.
He merely made points backed up by links that supported those points.

I understand this site is to focus on investing, and a person like HH gets tedious,(other than his intention was to disrupt) on the other hand, restricting speech or topics discussed could cause the site to become rather boring.

The free speech thing being squashed, well, if I recall that was the reason Bird “flew the coup”.

Personally, I figure anyones opinion about pretty much anything is acceptable.
Personal attacks or insults on the other hand, another matter.
The disadvantage of course is the site would require surveillance and moderation.
Just my opinion, lets see what comes next week.

      Aug 22, 2015 22:23 PM

I completely agree bb. I just want to eliminate conversations about Jews and Arabs.

    Well done, Al.

Loved the reminder of the verse from I Corinthians…would that we would all take such Scripture to heart in life at all times.

I’ve seen a couple of other sites more or less destroyed by argumentative, antagonistic and sometimes attacking/ insulting commentary and I see it on Twitter a lot.

I don’t understand why so many (and I must admit a time or two myself included), say things to others online they wouldn’t even consider and probably wouldn’t even FEEL if they were face to face with each other.

Maybe it would help to act as if we’re sitting across the table from those we’re addressing on the forum, when we post….much tougher to dislike or be unkind to someone in person than virtually, I guess (although there shouldn’t be a difference).

      Aug 23, 2015 23:19 AM

      Aug 23, 2015 23:05 AM

Trading is difficult, very challenging, and CAN be very stressful. After getting whipsawed for nth time, getting royally kicked around by the market, etc. people can latch unto any crazy stuff – just to let out their frustration and anger. It is either that or a steep drink. Neither is helpful in the long term, obviously.

Big Al, (and Cory), as a major instigator in raising Middle-Eastern issues on this site, I wish to apologize profusely and sincerely for problems I have caused.
I am not a Christian, and I hope, on looking back through my many posts on this site, you will not be able to find a single word disparaging of the Christian religion; and certainly no personal attacks against you, Big Al or Cory, or your beliefs.
I am not a Jew and I trust likewise you will find no attacks against Jews.
Indeed, I realize that Western civilization has developed primarily because of the Judaeo-Christian ethical system, and humanity has been blessed by that.
I understand that this site is foremost a site about wealth generation and preservation using commodity assets and precious metals. However,I have for decades seen my role in life on this mortal plane as an educator and while not a Christian I have been sufficiently blessed with intelligence to easily acquire sufficient wealth for my needs and in living a most comfortable life have given away more than I have kept for myself. In you, Big Al, I see a most forgiving and a caring and giving person.
Sorry, Big Al, but here comes a criticism. I will bring it up now and then not mention it again. There are times when I do not believe in a “can’t we all just get along?” attitude. Like I said; I’m not a Christian.
When the religious leader of a country, any country, openly says “Death to Americans” I will take him seriously and not turn the other cheek.
When some of his followers behead people for no other reason than they are Christians, I will never accept that as tolerable behavior. When other followers rape young girls and sell people into slavery, simply because they will not adopt a certain religion, I will condemn that religion.
For my behavior in that regard, I do not apologize. However, I will try not to raise the issue in this forum again.

      Aug 23, 2015 23:02 AM

      CFS:

Back to your own tricks again. Open season on those you hate.

By the way, you just did raise the issue in this forum again.

It’s ok, we will only present one side from here on.

        Aug 23, 2015 23:20 AM

        Totally inaccurate Bob.

We need to let this subject

The situation is a complete mess. And, both sides certainly contribute. Perhaps one a bit more than the other.

I can’t change it and neither can you and that is why we need to stick to financial issues.

          Aug 23, 2015 23:21 PM

OK Al, fill me in and show me a single word in this hate filled blurb that is financial in nature. Why is it that you allow one religion to be defamed but not a word against those who cannot be mentioned?

          Isn’t that hypocritical of you?

        Best apology all year.

    Aug 23, 2015 23:08 AM

I for one am happy to see a number of new names on this blog. From correspondence of some people directly with me, I know that the majority of listeners to the KER never post anything on here. One of the reasons is they have come to the conclusion that too many of the regular bloggers are curmudgeons, cranks and the stereotypical tin foil hat-wearers. My experience in those who correspond with me directly is that this is not the majority of the audience necessarily. So I want to personally thank those of you “newbies” posting this weekend for making yourselves and your views/support known!
Among other things, it helps to encourage Yours truly to stay the course with my old and loyal friend Al, if our audience on here is comprised of more than just a few goofs.

      Aug 23, 2015 23:04 AM

      Goofs?……ok Chris.

        Aug 23, 2015 23:22 AM

I interpret the sords “goofs” in a different context perhaps.

I am now taking the rest of today, at least until tonight, off.

Love you all even the “goofs”!

          Aug 23, 2015 23:29 AM

          Have a great day Al.

          Aug 24, 2015 24:03 AM

I guess we’re all goofs and what’s important are the silent majority that don’t post, and likewise don’t share, contribute, or participate. Sounds like it’s time to goof off instead of post on this blog.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:13 AM

ditto on the contribute, share or participate…………….the silent majority………

            Aug 24, 2015 24:34 AM

I would encourage more listeners to participate, share ideas, share news, share tips, shared charts, share jokes. If they’re just going to mock the people that do post behind closed doors, then who is the real goof?

I’m all for new listeners and new forum members and growth, but I wouldn’t trash talk the loyal base of listeners and contributors just for the sake of new people.

            As the song goes……

“Make New friends, but keep the Old……One is Silver, and the other Gold.”

            Aug 24, 2015 24:47 AM

Ditto and well said……………jmho and old time blogger……….

            +1 Shad!

            Aug 24, 2015 24:22 AM

            Make that a +2

I kind of felt Chris was calling all of us goofs by not just specifying who was bothering him.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:26 AM

Just for the fun of it, let’s simply let all of this go!

            Aug 24, 2015 24:23 AM

But my feelings were hurt. We are not goofs. Don’t you know I am the sensitive type 🙂 Hahahahaha!

    Aug 23, 2015 23:35 AM

I’ll settle for being another goof Chris if that helps brings this whole sloppy debate to an end! Strikes me not a few on this site are on a short fuse thanks to what stocks did last week and look likely to do this coming Black Monday. Best to all, A

      Aug 23, 2015 23:36 AM

It was a great week Andrew. You are just not negative enough! 🙂

      Aug 23, 2015 23:56 AM

I think you’re right, Andrew, and James (TL) is probably not the only one who is/was too heavily committed to stocks.

        Aug 23, 2015 23:26 AM

Guess that explains why it was so dead quiet here all day Friday. The thought crossed my mind. But in a way its a surprise because most here are pretty attuned to what the market is doing so it begs the question how could they have been surprised?

      Aug 23, 2015 23:07 PM

I shorted some IBB ( biotech etf ) on Friday. Black Monday would be an welcome event! But the Fed may try to intervene around here because last 2 days were pretty shocking.

        Aug 23, 2015 23:16 PM

I wonder if even the Fed could muster the firepower to stop a decline this size that is picking up momentum. We are talking trillions now and its gone global. I would not bank on being helped at this juncture. Just save yourself.

    Aug 23, 2015 23:38 PM

Good Man Al – Might I suggest, simply block the offenders! As you indicated, we are here to exchange thoughts on finance and the markets. Deviation from that precept should be grounds for blocking – simple as that!

    Aug 23, 2015 23:42 PM

Secondly – these offenders are great at “profusely” apologizing when they get caught – I say just hit the block key and be done with it!! They then can migrate to another site and spread hate and discontent.

    Big Al,
I wish to write a comment on using Real Estate as a wealth preservation tool, using as an example of danger in so doing, the example of the Osborne property tax in England as a situation whereby property wealth or indeed the property itself could be stolen by a profligate government.
I do not wish to violate your blog rules by such a discourse until I receive your permission to do so, since this is clearly non mining or commodity related.

    Aug 23, 2015 23:19 PM

    It’s your site, Al!

I did find it amazing when I started learning about economics how several of the financial gurus I started to follow had completely different viewpoints on things not financial than my viewpoints. I have not been able to reconcile this enigma and as such it remains a mystery to me. I’m still willing to discuss financial and economic issues, but there are some very weird tie-ins that some people have. Can we compartmentalize? The best approach is an open-minded one, but as a Christian I must be wary at times.

Americans should be upset when their companies manufacture cars in China and ship them back to the US to sell. If that doesn’t add insult to injury, how can you justify a country that can drive to the poorhouse in a foreign made automobile.

A little follow-through this week and the gold bears could find themselves in deep trouble.

I for one will miss the open board. All things are inter related in some way and it’s important to learn the background of people’s opinions. I had no problem passing up on someone’s comments.
Its like having math classes and not being able to use the number 6. I could come up with a better analogy but why bother, the die has been cast.

I don’t think free speech is being banned. Just bad politics that leads to bad blood and online hostility. Arab-Israeli conflicts are as appropriate to a commodity based website as are discussions of the Rapture or abortion.

Of course, come of it is kind of amusing if you stand back and don’t get involved. Makes for interesting reading on a quiet day. No question this site is polarized on the issues but that’s what makes the world go round.

          Aug 23, 2015 23:16 PM

          “Bad politics” is redundant.

Hello, Andrew……Did you see the GS ratio just hit 77. Somebody overnight has been busy beating it up , & gold….Re gold so much for safe haven status , with what just happened overnight & this morning with the global markets.

        Aug 24, 2015 24:30 AM

What the…..?!!!!! WTI futures just hit a 38 handle. Hmmm, maybe I don’t get my longed for bounce.

          Aug 24, 2015 24:16 AM

I saw that. I’ve decided to take my first tier in UWTI in pre-market trading today @ $.79.

I’ve been waiting for 6 months for oil to get down to a $38 handle. My target for Tier one was around $38, and with oil in the high $38.90s that works for me, but I may still be a bit early. If Oil tags $35 then I’m going in heavier on a second tier to average down.

Good luck to all in their investing as this looks like a crazy Monday morning!

Palladium off $30 down to $572. Wow! It looks like the 2010 peak at $561 may get tested as support.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:31 AM

interesting…………caught up in the commodity sell off….

            Aug 24, 2015 24:33 AM

GOLD LOOKING GOOOOOOOOOD………………considering silver and platinum sell off.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:41 AM

Yeah, Gold has separated from the pack including Silver.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:37 PM

I had noted earlier that $561 was next support, and this was a prior peak on April 23rd, 2010 for Palladium. There was also the trough on the week of Nov 25, 2011 at $563. So that level $561-$563 should have had some congestion.

Now in the overseas trading this range did come into play. Palladium just dipped down to $558 and then quickly reversed back up to $563. Pd bounced in the $558-$563 range for a while, but has broken down to $555 just now which is notably below the support. I’m fascinated by this move, because all the pundits at the mining shows the last few months have been most bullish on Palladium, but it is really getting whooped on hard in this commodity sell off.

I sold my remaining partial position in Stillwater Mining today at $9.81 (but it did make it up to $9.93 a little over an hour later. I hope I haven’t left money on the table, but with Palladium continuing to take it on the chin, it seemed like the right time to jump ship. I rolled this money into UTWI to play the Oil bounce. We’ll see how it goes on Tuesday….

            Aug 25, 2015 25:24 AM

Wow. Palladium down to $546. Yikes – I knew if $563-$561 fell it would be a waterfall decline.

      Aug 24, 2015 24:34 AM

Massive triple top on the FTSE Andrew. When it comes down its going to be very ugly in London Town. It may already be happening and my suspicion is it falls to the 4200 to 4300 range.

        Aug 24, 2015 24:03 AM

& who says we should not be discussion political issues on an investing site…..
They are both linked at the hip like Siamese twins..one influences the other & visa versa……..Politics caused the mayhem we are now witnessing in the global markets.

          Aug 24, 2015 24:08 AM

I agree with you there Tony. I think Al just wanted an end to the Israel – Muslim debate because it was getting too confrontational and distracting from the work he and Cory invest in the site each day. I mean, those guys pour all their hours into these shows and nobody even talks about what the guests are saying some days because of an obsession with an unrelated topic that is usually more about the pride and vanity of the poster than the subject itself.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:21 AM

BIRD..Hello I agree with your above post. I understand where AL & CORY are coming from, but having said that , what Israel & the Muslim world gets up to , does influence the financial markets. Perhaps people on here just need to be a bit more civil with each other when airing their views.
            Trade well & prosper.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:31 AM

You are right. It must have gotten pretty heated around here though. I missed it all because of a days travel and only caught the discussion after all the deletions. Maybe its for the best.

Time to focus on Palladium as it is closing in on long term support all the way back to its 2008 peak. Actually there are several key supports in this current range so it will be telling as to what happens next but some kind of bounce should be anticipated even if the bigger picture looks very negative. Notice also that Platinum has again dropped below the key 1000 level today. It will almost without a doubt drop down to close the gap in the 700 region before we can even think about calling the PM declines ended.

Palladium approaching support region but big picture still looks negative — FINVIZ.com.

      Aug 24, 2015 24:12 AM

I’m very interested in Palladium, and I’m looking at a similar picture. It is interesting that Gold led the charge higher, but Silver, Platinum, and Palladium were muted and are still tracking with base metals. I’m interested in the PGM space though, because there are legitimate supply/demand fundamentals that will come home to roost in 2016 and 2017 from the changes to mining methods, labor strikes, retiring of old deep mines, and a healthy auto industry.

        Aug 24, 2015 24:28 AM

Palladium off $30 down to $572. Wow! It looks like the 2010 peak at $561 may get tested as support.

          GOLD LOOKING GOOOOOOOOOD……………

            Aug 24, 2015 24:42 AM

Yes, Gold is looking much stronger than its pals Silver, Platinum, and Palladium. They are trading as industrial metals at present, which makes sense. I have high expectations for Silver and Palladium though longer term.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:51 AM

I still like silver and platinum…….

          Aug 24, 2015 24:27 AM

Great to see you guys are watching it too. That will keep us all focused. Personally I get dizzy when there is too much happening on a day like today. It’s easy to get thrown off your game and instead get caught up in all the fairground noise and shouting from the pits.

            Aug 24, 2015 24:26 AM

Fairground noise, interesting and a good way to put it!

            Aug 24, 2015 24:21 AM

Its a great big circus today Al. Like LPG often uses to say you need to have a plan and a plan after the plan just for days like today so you don’t get distracted from your goals. Btw…..sugar posted a minor double bottom today (5 minure chart) and has started to rise albeit very modestly. Its a beginning but I think the upside is promising.

Governments bailing out the banks with untold billions in 2008 in the hope they would loan out that money to people who wanted to spend, & to small business
(the life blood of any economy) Were either totally stupid , or were just following the orders of their money masters…Which ever it was, it was the biggest balls up in human history.
Bailing out the banks was as stupid as ..A mother giving her gambling husband $5 to go to the local shop to buy a loaf of bread to feed their children knowing he would have to pass a bookies on the way…No trickle down slices for their kids.
Result crying children……& a crying economy.

    Aug 24, 2015 24:39 AM

Tony good to hear from you. You’ve steered well clear of all the silliness and double-speak over the weekend. As for PMs I’m just waiting for the manipulators to exhaust themselves under a blizzard of funny money. Date with destiny draws ever closer! Best, A

      Aug 24, 2015 24:43 AM

“a blizzard of funny money”…… nice.

    Aug 24, 2015 24:56 AM

You cannot separate religion, politics and economics, they are all related to some degree. Without quoting any passage from the Bible there is warnings about greed, lying and stealing to just name a few. The Bible in many ways provides protection for the rich. Other wise poor people would be cutting the throats or the rich and taking all that they have. The Bible is the basis for laws and marriage.
Once again Al I hope you reconsider. Perhaps a word limit would accomplish enough of what you’re looking for. Best of luck to you all.

    Aug 24, 2015 24:31 AM

A very good post gregd. Although keeping religion out of this site may make for an easier life, it is totally integral to most global economies. You may be interested to see Alex Jones 2 hr interview with Dr David Duke, which may also be of interest to Bob Moriarty and others. Best, A
