One perhaps would have predicted that today would be a “panic day” in the markets because of the tragic events of the last few days. Boy were we wrong!

I would assume that they have people there who can help you!

I’m w/Gary on being surprised that the S&P didn’t fall. But one thing to remember, is that people no longer move the markets. 80%+ of all trades are done by machines – HFT algo computers that feel *nothing*. Terminators. And probably the PPT has these things moving the markets up.

… and while I’m no expert on history by any means, during WWII when Nazi Germany was busy attacking most of Europe, the US stood by and did nothing – it wasn’t until we were attacked by Imperial Japan at Pearl Harbor that we finally woke up – is my understanding.

So France being attacked by ISIS, and the US markets rallying, instead of falling, or closing our of respect for the dead, reminded me of that.

          Nov 16, 2015 16:24 PM

As it also reminded me Bill and that is kind of what Rick was saying.

            Nov 16, 2015 16:46 PM

I’m not the best listener, but I thought that Rick was saying that the markets don’t care about world events anymore. I’ll listen again.

            Nov 16, 2015 16:59 PM

He actually did,Bill. And, he is more right than wrong!

      Nov 16, 2015 16:24 PM

Probably? I would personally say for sure.

        Nov 16, 2015 16:51 PM

I’ve read about the PPT in mainstream news, so I’m sure it’s real and exists. But I still think it’s *greed* that causes most market moves. PPT keeps things from falling. But greed makes them rise. Gold ‘ol fashioned greed. So the culprit here are the major investment banks and HF’s. Heartless cold b_stards, the lot.

We gotta keep our humanity folks.

          Nov 16, 2015 16:57 PM

The PPT definitely exists but under a more sophisticated name!

            Nov 17, 2015 17:34 AM

It’s actually called The president’s working group on financial markets. And it’s become unrecognizable thanks to all the blame/credit it gets.

So funny, Rick mentions tourism, a couple years ago when isis was first saying they intended to invade Europe thru Lybia covered by refugees, I remember saying on another blog I was canceling my Roman vacation.

As for oil, isis sells it pretty cheap I hear, that’s gotta act as some kind of a price damper.

    Nov 16, 2015 16:55 PM

Gary, The reason the markets went up is because the terrorist attacks may mean that Cruz or Trump will win the election in ’16 as they would protect us from the Islamic invasion. No Democrat will as they are all in favor of the invasion as the terrorists will vote Democrat.

      Nov 16, 2015 16:56 PM

Sounds crazy but interesting. You know, you could be right.

A weak Euro and strong dollar will have more to do with tourism than anything.

The “found passport” worked for them for 9/11. It worked again for Charlie Hebdo. So now they have used it a third time. They know that Americans are total dumbshits and can be told anything. No matter how preposterous, the dumbshits will believe it. But Americans are not capable of believing truth. They have been brainwashed that truth is “conspiracy theory.” A population this stupid has no future.

    PCR thought it was funny

    Nov 16, 2015 16:39 PM

    bb,
How correct you are.. This population in America has zero sense of reality. It’s getting a limits comical. I say almost, cause , it’s not funny at all!

Let’s just hope they awake. I believe the pendulum has swung.

Sometime in the near future we will see, the perp walk!

Chartser, very few will ever see it, in economics somewhere, I forget, somebody said not one in a million will see it. Devaluation of currency I think.

Anyway, imo, people are trained almost from birth as to what to believe, some people break from it, most don’t. But they are trained to believe authority, and they do.
    That’s even before patriotism, lol

Keynes: “By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose.”

I find it interesting that everyone talks about the corruption in congress. Everyone knows there is corruption on many levels. Well…corruption means criminal! And criminals need to be dealt with! Some of the criminality is theft, extortion, RECO violations, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, human trafficking, war crimes and for some Treason!
I’m sure it’s not everyone, but most should be arrested for dereliction of duty.. DUH…!

Lots of treason. But you really think we’ll see a perp walk for the neo-cons, other traitors, and various and sundry criminals at the highest levels of our society? Hope springs eternal, but you’re more optimistic than I am. Americans have sunk into ‘learned helplessness’.

“Learned helplessness is behavior typical of an organism (human or animal) that has endured repeated painful or otherwise aversive stimuli which it was unable to escape or avoid. After such experience, the organism often fails to learn escape or avoidance in new situations where such behavior would be effective. In other words, the organism seems to have learned that it is helpless in aversive situations, that it has lost control, and so it gives up trying”

    Nov 17, 2015 17:12 AM

    GH,
I am optimistic by nature, but all you have to do is look no further than the presidential vote. The war hawks are getting routed. The American people don’t want the old establishment any longer. The people realize the wars are for self greed and have nothing to do with freedom. People know the buzz words of ” regime change ” and Muslim extremist ” is just manipulation.
ISIS is paid fighters. Taking over a sovereign government for oil is what the media and war hawks call regime change”.
People are also waking up to the ole distract and divide strategy of the elite. The false flag plays are being talked about in many circles like never before. The pendulum is starting to swing. More are turning to alternative news because they know the boob tube is nothing but lies.
Bottom line, the more false flags, the more they expose them selves…

I don’t doubt more people are waking up. But they seem like a small fraction to me, at least in my part of the US (northern Rockies) on my recent visit back home.

I admit I don’t follow the presidential stuff much. I now live outside the US, so it’s easy to ignore. Who is anti-war of all running? Certainly not Hillary, and from what I’ve read not Sanders. Could there be an anti-war Republican? Maybe Rand Paul, though he’s not near the man his father is.
