I think what’s happened is that growth in derivatives markets has to be sustained. It’s similar to growth in bond markets. If there’s growth in bond markets, there’s growth in the economy. So keeping growth alive in derivatives presumably contributes to economic growth and stock markets rising. With declining rates, the kind of growth sought after is just not possible, so hence the jawboning on higher rates,
