Rick’s way of putting on trailing stops is interesting.
I put in trailing stops after a gain, but place the stop depending on the beta of the stock…..the larger the beta, the further back I put the stop.
Basically I want the protection of a stop, but I prefer to not be stopped out. I need trailing stops, however, to protect against a calamity.
(Although I’m not sure how effective stops can be in a sudden calamity, because of gapping down, especially on open after a weekend for example.)

      Jul 19, 2016 19:07 AM

I´m not sure about the stops either ,if there is a BIG gap down,or a market crash, does the stops work?
Maybe the CME 400♦ Circuit brakers will save us.

Thanks Big Al – Cory – and Rick A for reviewing the streaming companies.

Rick’s analysis is educational, and much appreciated. 🙂

You guys are top notch !

      Jul 19, 2016 19:53 AM

Thanks for pointing out the 200 week MA on SAND as well Cory.

      Cheers!

      Yes,Rick is a real Pro.

    Jul 19, 2016 19:51 AM

Not that it matters but I made the same request as Excelsior a few days before he did. Good job on the charts Rick!

    Dennis M. O’Neil says:
Rick…..why don’t you take a crack at the royalty and streaming companies?

      Jul 19, 2016 19:03 AM

Not that it matters, but I requested that Rick tell us about these companies the first day you said he would look at individual stocks. I didn’t say to look at royalty companies as a group, but I requested them individually.

Excelsior is teachers pet. Don’t let it bother you guys. He does leave 75% of all the posts!

Tho.. i love the “Ex.”You do come up with some good ones,Birdman!! Great to see you are back!!!

            Jul 20, 2016 20:40 PM

            Thanks Ann.

          Bird,
glad you are back. Been thinking about Toronto/Vancouver’s house bubble and saw that the “Egg-Man” a.k.a Marc Cohodes came out of retirement last year to short Candian not-so-real-estate. So far he is up %40 on one of his targets, Home Capital Group. Says it’s full of corrupt and smelly loans. Says it can go “away” without the government bailing it out.

          Jul 21, 2016 21:28 AM

Thanks for the insult. I let you know my feelings on the market wrap for Wednesday. Apparently everyone else agreed, you are negative, combative, and a flip flopper.

May a power outage in your African paradise find it’s way to you soon.

These are all relatively large companies, and because of the relatively low quantity of deals available for silver all now have gold or a percentage of gold in their streams.
They are all high volume companies for trading per poses.

Despite their similarities, they have considerably different characteristics….

    Company: FNV. RRGLD

    Company. FNV. RGLD. SLW. SAND
    Weighted
    Alpha….. 88.2 97.1. 131. 128
    Beta …… 0.43. 0.50. 1.04. 0.85

FNV and RGLD have small dividends, but most streaming companies do not.

      Jul 19, 2016 19:31 AM

SLW pays out a quarterly dividend in the amount of “20% of the average cash generated by operating activities in the previous four quarters”.
Which is also “small” but any dividend is significant in the era of ZIRP and NIRP.

        Jul 19, 2016 19:10 PM

Dennis, I don’t think SLW is currently generating cash.

          Jul 19, 2016 19:23 PM

I have received a DRIP the last several quarters.
How can you not generate cash when you are buying 9 million ounces of Ag at on average $5/ounce and 85,000 ounces of Au at $475?
I will take my nickels per share of SLW….and not be in fear of picking up coins in front of a stem roller. What will the div be when silver trades above $50?

            Jul 19, 2016 19:25 PM

The figures above are refleckting per quarter.

      Jul 19, 2016 19:47 AM

Silver Wheaton is forecast to ‘produce’ 265,000 ounces of Gold in 2016.
That represents 39% of its’ overall 54 million 2016 forecast silver equivalent ounce production.
Smallwood recently indicated that one can expect more Gold deals in the future because of the relatively few quality opportunities in the silver space.

Sorry about the first line company…
That was not supposed to be there.

    Jul 19, 2016 19:00 AM

I’m so glad to hear that Rick likes these stocks as I have big positions in all of them and have had them since FNV and RGLD were@26 I ain’t selling any of them till gold is 5K and silver is 100.

CFS…they certainly did. I like the idea of the counter party being the Swiss refiner. Sinclair gets the monied interest middle man out of the picture. The refiner gets 2% instead of zilch or negative rates on their fiat.

      Jul 19, 2016 19:40 PM

      Funny I mentioned that

I would like to thank Rick for his analysis on ASM on Friday. Based on his analysis I adjusted my stops yesterday and was able to bag 21% net profit today on an 10% pullback. I am still holding my core shares. Looking for a reentry when the chart looks right.

    BTW,
Matthew good call on SMG…they DID SURVIVE this vicious down slide…UP from roughly .03 to .11 cents a share…interesting..

      Jul 19, 2016 19:26 PM

That’s good to hear, Marc. Looks like it had a much bigger rebound when priced in the Canadian dollar – two cents to sixteen and a half (725%) 😮

    Rick,

what about Great Panther Silver LTD TSX:GPR?…..it has taken a good knocking recently and looks like it is battling to get back up to its 9 day MA. Will it drop to $1.17 CND soon or rocket up from here $1.76 in a couple of weeks? I ought a slice recently.
