Doc and Chris join me (Cory) to chat about the movements we saw in the markets this week. With the S&P and NASDAQ again hitting all time highs and the VIX at levels not seen since mid 2014 will this continue? Also a look at the USD weekly chart and a general take on the precious metals. A lot of movements in the first week of August.

‘the Bloomberg weekly U.S. Consumer Comfort Index for workers earning less than $15,000 rose considerably over the course of the month, peaking at levels not seen since 2007’ How can anyone live on less than $15k?

      Families do on welfare!
And many seem satisfied with that!

        Aug 05, 2016 05:58 PM

Hi DFS, I guess welfare must be paying the rent as well otherwise seems impossible – well would be in the UK, my local tax alone is $1800 per annum, then there’s gas and electric another $1500, then car tax $350 and to rent any house around here it would be $15000 per annum

That is why council houses exist in England, and section 8 housing exists in the US.

Doc, after listening to the MUX conference call yesterday and hearing Rob McEwen say that gold will be $5K and silver $200 by the end of 2020, I went ahead and bought more OCANF and TAHO today after their big drop. I know we can correct more this month, but I’m more worried about missing the train to 5K gold. I think Rob McEwewn is a lot smarter than we are.

      Thanks for the feedback Bonzo.
FWIW, I can forgive Rob if we only just get half way there by then. 😉
      Best & hope all’s good w. you.

LPG, when asked what 5K gold would do for MUX stock, McEwen said he would raise the dividend. With gold at 5K we should see OCANF and MUX over 50. Maybe even NEM, ABX, and GG would top 50…

      Aug 05, 2016 05:26 PM

Rob is skinnier than most of us, too.

        Aug 05, 2016 05:47 PM

Rob said he plans to live to 120. I sure hope he does!

          Aug 05, 2016 05:06 PM

Rob and his wife have donated in excess of $50 million to encourage excellence and innovation in healthcare and education. Their donations have funded the establishment of the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine and the McEwen Leadership Program at St. Andrew’s College. Rob is on the Board of Trustees; International Society of Stem Cell Research.

He just may make it to 120. At least he should have a Bilbo Baggins 111th birthday.

“Jobs Data Nowhere As Strong As Headline” – Analysts Throw Up On Today’s Seasonal Adjustment

One week ago, the BEA admitted that it had “found a problem” when it comes to calculating GDP numbers. Specifically it blamed “residual seasonality” adjustments for giving historical GDP numbers a persistent optimistic bias. This came in the aftermath of last week’s shocking Q2 GDP report which printed at 1.2%, less than half of Wall Street’s consensus.

Today, seasonality made another appearance, this time however in the much anticipated July jobs number, which unlike the woeful Q2 GDP number, was the opposite, coming in far higher than expected. In fact it was higher than the top Wall Street estimate.

Great comments concerning money market funds

    This time is different.

Never, NEVER, before have major Central Banks in the world colluded to take it in turns to create new money, monetize their bonds and buy stocks.
It is all a chimera of manipulation.

    Don’t worry, be happy!

      Aug 05, 2016 05:08 PM

      Don’t worry, be happy!

DFS, you are so right. Why collapse everything, when they can coax folks into the stock market through negative interest rates. It’s time for a tax overhaul:-)) Banks charge for any electronic financial tranaction now. That pesky cash is still in the way? We can phase it out.

Imagine the fees and taxes that will be generated through the markets with most everyone chasing yield. Bank accounts will be great. The sheered, will not have to remember what they made, spent or saved. Taxes, debts will be deducted electronically, along with future payments to the banksters for the services they create…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFDe5kUUyT0

Folks will discover cash was such a pain. God forbid someone has to listen to coins jingle in their pocket.

The downside will be an electric grid failure, but most countries have state of the art infrastructure. Ask any banker or politician with the exception of Trump. Not to worry, MSM is in a full court press on him. Trump took the bait and is being voted STRAWMAN.

      Unbelievable …there will be more.

      Thanks Shad.

My personal issue with those articles is that it’s not exactly “proper journalism”. It’s more like promo in disguise…
All the disclaimers of potential conflict of interest are there though – that’s the “good” part.

Best to you & have a nice WE.

      LPG

        Aug 05, 2016 05:57 PM

Thanks LPG. That’s funny, because I would submit that half the political articles that get posted on here, or youtube videos, or even some of the ones from ZH are not “proper journalism” either…..but they can stimulate a conversation, or perhaps get someone to think outside of a self-imposed box of their own perspectives.

I just consider them “editorials” – like our editorials on the KER – ie… “opinion” pieces.

My intent is just to share helpful info on companies that get discussed on here often, as there are interesting facts, details, opinions, entertainment, and perspectives embedded even in editorials.

I would always advocate that investors do their own due diligence and properly research any stock thoroughly that they decide to invest in and not take the word of anyone in a “proper journalism” press release, an “editorial”, or any audio/video interviews from any show (including the KER).

Getting many perspectives is all part of staying “well informed” that the Big Owl advises this audience so often. I agree with that philosophy as well. 🙂

        Have a great weekend sir.

    Aug 06, 2016 06:14 PM

Thanks EX, for all you bring to us to gain perspective.

      Aug 06, 2016 06:30 PM

Thanks Marty. Always glad to share investing ideas. I really enjoy all the perspectives that you bring to the readers of the KER as well. You have some of the best stock picks out of anyone on here!
