I heard this talked about a couple of weeks ago, but did not think it possible.

This guy is either brilliant and gutsy or as dumb as a rock. I just don’t know which.

Trust me, he is not dumb as a rock!

I ‘ decided. He is not that smart. The risk of banks in Portugal, Spain or Italy failing (and being allowed to fail) is too great. DB holds too many derivatives which would be impacted by the failure of those banks.
AND even if no bank fails, the derivative problem of DB could still blow up if interest rates cannot be held low.
Think forward a few years from now…..(Assume no war breaks out, and that’s not a zero probability) and interest rates have been kept low, but the US dollar is falling because of all the money the US has had to print to keep interest rates low. Dollar falling, implies prices rising. Do you think the US will ignore inflation? I don’t know. But at this point the choice is raise interest rates and DB collapses, or don’t raise interest rates and the US economy collapses, and DB still will collapse with the US economy.
The only way out is to promote his rescue and sell shares of DB quietly after a short term boost/dead cat bounce. If he really is a banking financier, that could be his plan…..still risky though.

      CFS,
      IMHO, you’re missing the point.
I doubt his investment is really about DB.
      My 2cts.

The spelling is Qatar. The people of Qatar are Qatari.

    The article is here: http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/qatari-investors-eyeing-controlling-stake-in-deutsche-bank-a-1115581.html
