Stepping outside the US we look at markets and economies in China, Japan, and Europe

Cory
November 17, 2016

After the election so much of the new has shifted to US exclusively. This is understandable but today with Chris Temple we look outside the US boarders to understand if economies have gotten any better around the world. Japan announced a bond buying program today and Europe continues to see separatist parties gain support. While in Shina the Yuan is at an 8 year low.

    Off Topic.
Obama says Trump should follow the Precedent of Gerald Ford and issue a full pardon for Hillary once Trump becomes President.

    That’s interesting.
    Put in other words.
Obama KNOWS Hillary committed crimes, and wants HER PARDONED BECAUSE SHE IS A MEMBER OF THE RULING CLUB.

I hope Trump does not buy the Big Zero’s BS. Liberty, justice and equality of treatment for all. Drain the swamp, so that this does not happen repeatedly.

Where did you hear this … and why wouldn’t Obama do that himself?

Is it true that a presidential pardon can be for all crimes committed, known and unknown? I.e. all sins to this point washed clean, so to speak?

        nevermind, I see answers below

The Clintons can use the bribe they took from Marc Rich for his pardon and give it to Obama for a pardon. The only reason the Clintons have never divorced is so they can’t testify against each other if brought to trial.

Luckily, it is questionable whether Obama can issue an effective full pardon, when her crimes have not been fully investigated and identified…..or, no doubt, he would.
E.g. if he pardons her for treason, could not she be tried for tax evasion via the Clinton Foundation.

I think he could pardon her for everything, but that won’t get her into heaven.

CFS, I looked into this issue after I posted a similar comment last week. Very sadly, here’s the bad news

Actually that’s not totally true about Obama’s ability to issue a pardon. He can pardon Hillary or anyone else for crimes against the UNITED STATES. He cannot pardon her for state crimes and I have little doubt there have been lots of state crimes committed and an aggressive State Attorney could go after her.

But the real kicker is that he cannot pardon her for future crimes. So if Congress chose to issue a subpoena and started asking her embarrassing questions about her past crimes, she can’t plead the 5th because she has already been issued a pardon. And she either tells the truth or commits a new crime of perjury. I actually can’t really imagine Hillary ever being able to tell the truth, it’s just not in her.

Yes, Bob M., and good point about pleading the 5th, however, the slate is clean once she’s pardon, as though no offense ever occurred. So, I would reason that even on a State level there would now be no case to answer, barring any future acts.

Nothing she did in the past could be marked as criminal, if the act(s) fall within the pardon. And you know they will make sure that it all does. I think the States are unlikely to spend the money.

From another site, “As Justice Stephen Field wrote in Ex parte Garland (1867), “If granted before conviction, it prevents any of the penalties and disabilities consequent upon conviction from attaching [thereto]; if granted after conviction, it removes the penalties and disabilities, and restores him to all his civil rights; it makes him, as it were, a new man, and gives him a new credit and capacity…. A pardon reaches both the punishment prescribed for the offence and the guilt of the offender…so that in the eye of the law the offender is as innocent as if he had never committed the offence.””

But, there is a higher justice, imo. Whether or not we get to see it action on this occasion remains to be seen.

            DC:

You missed my point. If she was asked by Congress, did you lie to us before, she would be required to respond, not having the ability to claim the 5th and if she lied, that would be a new, post pardon crime. Obama can and probably will pardon her but it will only be valid up until the end of his term. If she commits perjury after that about anything, the pardon is meaningless, it’s a new crime that hasn’t been pardoned.

The whole thing is disgusting. It makes a mockery of the rule of law, insults the common citizenry, and abrogates the intended spirit of a Presidential pardon. Disgusting, imo.

Dc, I can think of several NY state crimes involving failing to file correct paperwork for the Clinton foundation. (Which is domiciled in NY)

The UK is in a mess, because of stupid, really STUPID judges.
Notwithstanding a plebiscite, in which the majority of the general public made their opinion known, some judges decided that the government had to get the approval of Parliament, subject to its various delaying tactics and procedures…..something that CANNOT happen quickly.
Furthermore the EU has forbidden the UK to negotiate any treaties with other parties until it leaves the EU.
If May had any guts, which she doesn’t, she should simply tell the judges and the EU that the majority of the people of the UK have decided and the UK is leaving the EU.
And she should start trade negotiations with the rest of the world, trying to obtain universal free trade.
