Comments on these vibrations in the markets

Cory
January 20, 2017

Rick Ackmerman kicks off today addressing these tightly traded markets that Rick refers to as simply vibrating sideways. After the push higher by the markets after the election the past months has been pretty boring. The precious metlas have done well and the US Dollar sold off but still nothing that I would consider shocking. Listen to what Rick has to say below.

    WTI, Brent are interesting

    Jan 20, 2017 20:00 AM

My plan is to hold my oil and gas juniors, that i was lucky to get very close to the lows 2015/2016 till ca2020 (that could change,of course)

I don´t have the skill to trade short term blips in WTI/Brent

Steve St. Angelo, towards the end of the webcast is confused over the price of the commodity and the value of the producers of the commodities.
Supply and demand will determine the price of the commodities, but profit (or P/E ratios)
will determine the price of the shares of the producers.

The flaw in the thermodynamic theory of oil is that it makes the assumption that all energy is derived from oil. While that was historically true for almost a century, we are now in the process of transitioning into nuclear, solar and renewable energy dominance. Oil will still be produced for transportation uses, while gas is produced for electrical production in the near term. Once battery technology improves sufficiently then a transition away from oil will occur.

      Well Platinum gained $22 today…. so it’s a start.

      Platinum $978.00 +$22.00

The PGM industry does need higher prices to move forward though, or the old S. African mines are in deep doo-doo.

If grade is king, Kirkland Lake gets the crown

That a great hit for Kirkland lake:

“The record hit – 4.97m (true width) grading 1,429g/t Au from 345.55m depth, including a stonking 0.24m assay grading 21,490g/t Au – came from the Lower Phoenix system and the recently-discovered west-dipping lode at the footwall.”

TNM Video: Interview with Rockhaven CEO Turner at Klaza in Yukon

Strategic Metals owns 41% of Rockhaven, so that’s the best way to get exposure to their projects and so many more….

Strategic’s large portfolio of marketable securities provides upside exposure to several large exploration projects. Major shareholdings include:

      8.3% interest in $ATC ATAC Resources Ltd., which is developing Canada’s only Carlin-type gold district at its Rackla Gold Project in east-central Yukon;

      41.4% interest in $RK Rockhaven Resources Ltd., which is advancing one of the highest grade gold deposits ever discovered in Yukon towards production;

33.4% interest in $PRG Precipitate Gold Corp., which is advancing their flagship Juan de Herrera project located within the emerging Tireo Gold Camp in the Dominican Republic; and

**16.5% interest in $SNG Silver Range Resources Ltd., which currently owns 4 highly prospective zinc-lead±silver projects in Yukon Territory and several high grade gold projects located in NWT, Nunavut and Nevada.

I just like the diversification and exposure to good projects, without going all in on some of the riskier explorers. It’s like an Explorer ETF, but that will have a pipeline of royalties making money down the road, instead of burning money like most discovery drill plays.

      Matthew,(sorry for bothering you)
Do you see the GDXJ trading in a range till the end of 2017?,Or do you see a missile launch that surprises people in a month or two ?

        Jan 20, 2017 20:52 AM

Something like a missile launch is more likely, in my opinion. Those who think the rise out of the bear market low will mirror the preceding fall into that low probably don’t have much experience with resource sector bull markets — and they’re already wrong, so far. Just compare the move down from the 2014 high to last year’s very powerful move up and you’ll see little, if any, similarity.

And you never bother me… for Pete’s sake 😉

          Jan 20, 2017 20:42 AM

          Thank you,Matthew
(well, okay then,i have 200 questions about how to become a chart wizard 🙂 )

Seriously,Thanks, i am impressed with your work.

Archdeacon (!) Andrew – Is that kind of like Leave it to Beaver, but with Schiff Forks?

Matthew, you may have to get some operators and “ghost chartists” to help out, as that is 200+100 questions just between Pete & Ann.

Why don’t you just open up a Chart Wizard School?

            * You’d be much smarter than Dumbeldore from the Harry Potter series, but still kind of rogue like Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings series.

GDXJ: Current short-term target at 40.14 looks like a lock-up to me. It was a ‘mechanical’ buy on yesterday’s pullback to 35.71. There may be an opportunity to get in on a pullback to 37.15, but the ETF will need to hover 0.50 – 0.60 above it for a few bars on the 30-minute chart to trip my signal. If bulls can close GDXJ for two consecutive days above 40.92, it would put a 54.47 (!!) target theoretically in play.

          Jan 20, 2017 20:45 PM

          54.47(theoretically) ,nice.Thanks,Rick A.

Came in this morning with a bullish benchmark of 1210.60 for the Feb contract, Because the futures overshot it, they’ll be shooting for a minimum 1226.90 when trading resumes Sunday night. March Silver has similarly overshot my 17.175 mark, also with bullish implications going forward. Am also accumulating DIA puts two weeks out, since I do not like the way stocks have been churning.

I dont know about the influence of oil price on fuel in America but here in Aus its a bloody rort! 2 weeks ago the price of regular unleaded fuel went up more than 13% overnight on the back of a $3 weekly rise in WTI crude. Yet our oil comes from Tapis crude in Singapore.
