Welcome!

I believe that dropping the balstic missles into Syria was a moral statement. Apparently this is a difficult argument to win. Listen to what Chris has to say.

Is the U.S. a militaristic nation bullying the rest of the world? And if so, what is the purpose?

It was an immoral statement for our country to make and unconstitutional.

      Apr 19, 2017 19:03 AM

      Unconstitutional, therefore, immoral.

Good grief Al the US helped our old ally Iraq procure chemical weapons for use against Iran during their war some 25 years ago. In fact I think we had a chemical manufacturing facility in Maryland that actually made these horrific weapons.

If our military intelligence was correct with regard to the Assad regime using weapons against civilians then there should have been an international response not a unilateral ass kicking by the US.

    Good rebuttal Chris!

At one time I thought the americans knew Iraq had wmd because they gave them to him.
Guess he used them all up by the time the americans arrived.

There were years of weapons inspections all through the 90s. If I remember correctly an event was orchestrated — maybe some 1998 Clinton air strikes? — to get the inspectors thrown out before they could officially announce that Iraq was WMD-free. Scott Ritter was probably my source on this.

Chris is a breath of fresh air. People like him give me hope that one day the US might come to it’s senses and start doing the right thing. Thanks Al and this site for voicing all views.

      Me four.

And as far as China is concerned, I think the only reason they agreed to this is because they struck a deal whereby the US would not intervene with any interactions towards Taiwan. They are not “on our side”. I trust the Chinese gov’t about as far as I can heave my piano.

I believe there are many more questions, Big Al, a responsible person is obligated to ask before reaching judgement.

    1. Does the US have a right to attack a sovereign nation that is not attacking the U.S.?

You apparently believe so. I think you are mistaken, unless you believe the US has a moral right to be the world’s policeman.

Even if you believe the US has a moral right to be the world’s policeman, I believe the US MUST first truly determine guilt. In this regard I firmly believe the US went off half-cocked without determining guilt.

The fact that China’s reaction is fortuitous is irrevelant to this discussion. I agree with Mr. Temple.

What is the moral statement you would approve of given the deaths of 68 children in a suicide bombing today by one of the ISIS terrorists against supporters of Assad?

I would posit that the Israeli’s are behind the decisions of most all US actions. They say “jump”, we say “how high?” They say “bomb”, we say “who and how much?” I presume that those on this board read Bob M.’s website and saw his last quote, and many others in that vein in the past. It couldn’t be much more clear.

Yemen crisis: ‘Made in the USA’

The crisis in Yemen, in no small measure, is made in the USA and NATO countries, explains historian Gerald Horne.
As ever, US foreign policy in Yemen is incoherent just as it is confused in Syria where it is pursuing a similar harebrained policy, he added.

Horne said. “Supposedly, Washington is opposed to the rise and the surge of Al-Qaeda. But for whatever reason, they are supporting the Saudi-backed intervention which is sharing a trench with Al-Qaeda

More and more people are seeing it.
    Maybe there is hope yet.

    Al:
Your argument makes more sense to me if you leave out the word Morality. Nobody can claim to be into morality when they use it as the reason to bomb people. Maybe my definition of morality is different than yours. Death by gas or whatever is still permanently dead. No method can be a morally better way to kill someone, based on our understanding of pain.
Chris certainly has his history correctly learned when he expounds on the understanding with Gorbachev and NATO pushing eastward. We haven’t kept our end of that bargain.

      Apr 18, 2017 18:03 PM

NATO has gone far beyond it’s mandate. When did Turkey move to the North Atlantic? When did Serbia or Ukraine? Uncle Eric writes about this in his “War Series”. I highly recommend his books.

      http://www.chaostan.com/books.html

He has been writing about poking the Russian bear for many years. This has strengthened Putin.

“A big part of Russian culture is fear of foreign invasion, especially from the West. In the First World War, Russia was invaded by the armies of America, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Britain, Canada, Italy, Japan and Finland. In World War II, Russia was invaded by Germany, Italy, Romania, Hungary, Finland and Spain.

Russia’s World War II dead numbered 20 million, which was fifty times America’s loss. A Russian politician who does not convince the voters he will protect them against foreigners has absolutely no chance of winning an election.

Ever since the fall of the Soviet empire, the understandably paranoid Russians have been watching NATO relentlessly creeping in their direction. In 2004, NATO even absorbed the former Soviet states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (“the Baltics”). Right on Russia’s border, the Baltics were the pathway Germans used to attack Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1941. A million Russians died at Leningrad.

Now, Washington is pressing NATO to absorb the former Soviet states of Ukraine and Georgia. U.S. officials even talk about inducting the highly flaky nuclear-armed dictatorship of Pakistan into NATO.

Governments are like dogs, always marking their territories and trying to expand them at the expense of their rivals.

How would Americans feel if Mexico and Canada formed a military alliance with Russia? Would they be a little frightened? Perhaps inclined to do something rash?

      The Serbian Example Changed Russia

The core principle of U.S. foreign policy for two centuries has been, never, never, never try to see things from the other side’s point of view. Understanding how other people feel turns us into weak-kneed pansies afraid to shoot first and ask questions later.

One of the most ardent practitioners of this rule was Bill Clinton. His answer to every problem was, bomb someone, anyone, preferably Muslims, but Serbs will do in a pinch.

Serbs are traditional allies of Russians. The 1999 Clinton-led NATO bombing of Serbia was seen in Russia as ominous, proof that Russians need a strong leader, a protector with enormous power. I think, deep down, the fearful Russians now…

      … want a Czar

There are millions of exceptions, but my sense of it is, most Russians want a czar – czar means Caesar. Vladimir Putin is their man, and I believe they want him to behave more or less like Czar Peter the Great, expanding and accelerating the revival of the Kremlin’s power.”

    Apr 18, 2017 18:20 PM

Al, listen to Chris. He is 100% correct to be skeptical. I really think you are jumping to too many conclusions and drunk way too much Neocon Kool-Aide. The US has no right and it is not in their best interests to be the police man of the world. I really think Trump has blown it. He is not acting like a stateman and playing in to the extremists hands. All this is going to do is make people around the world hate the US even more. Imperialism has never worked and never will.

I don’t think we can ever know the truth about this chemical ‘attack’ and who did it. I therefore don’t really support the Trump missile attack because it seems it will ill informed and probably not constitutional. Initially I thought it might have been a good idea but I think it was a bad idea from a legitimacy point of view. Anyway, it has shut up all those people who have been going on about Trump being a Russia lover! I can see Al’s point of view though. Essentially, it was a demonstration. I wonder though that Tomahawk missiles at substantial costs didn’t seem to have caused much damage.
Al’s interviews with McKinney were interesting but I doubt the voracity of the evidence in this case. He asserts that is routine to be able to tell how we can know about the source of chemical attacks but I think the fog of war prevents the truth being known. I have read some of the contrary evidence saying that the attack was not from the Syrian government but there are contradictions in their reports too.

And in my view PCR is a complete whack job like Jim Willie, David Icke, etc. Entertaining and tells some truth but don’t take him seriously. For me, PCR is a typical worm that turned.

Chris : I get your idea , but really Aasad is a killer . Trump may be wrong– but, Aasad has not used them since. At least a pause was had. Trump is unpredictable, and dangerous . Everybody knows that Pence is the standby President , my prediction stands Trump will resign or be impeached this year 2017 . Pence is sane [Trump is not ] but he is nasty and[ will prove] warlike . best of health and wealth to you all . I love you all S
