House of Cards: Has the US Economy Recovered?

Seattle sklyine 606

May 20, 2017 Seattle, Washington

Join the Mises Institute and guests Doug Casey, Walter Block, Tom Woods, and Bob Murphy at historic Town Hall Seattle!

The media insists the US economy has recovered from the 2008 crash. Equities markets have enjoyed a bull run since the election. Housing prices are rising in expensive coastal cities. Government offices continue to report that GDP is growing while inflation remains in check. And insiders like JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon insist that American consumers and businesses are upbeat about the future.

But is the supposed recovery an illusion, fueled by an artificial supply of money and cheap credit from the Fed? Are housing and equity prices headed for a fall? Is inflation actually much higher than reported? Will older Americans ever recover their savings lost in the last crash? Will savers continue to lose ground to artificially low interest rates?

Our great lineup of speakers will challenge the conventional wisdom and give us their uncensored thoughts.

  • Renowned investor and author Doug Casey, who will appear via teleconference from his home in Argentina, will offer his insights on the fragility of the world’s financial systems — and steps you can take to protect yourself;
  • Dr. Walter Block will slay many of the economic myths that are endlessly repeated by the media talking heads and politicians;
  • Tom Woods and Bob Murphy will once again tape their ContraKrugman show live for our audience, where they demolish the latest claims of the state’s favorite court economist Paul Krugman;
  • Jeff Deist will lead us off with an assessment of the Trump economy;
  • Plus plenty of time for Q and A from the audience.
