It was another interesting week in terms of economic and political news as well as central bank news. On the economic front Core CPI disappointed with a 0.1% increase and retail sales posted a decrease that was not anticipated. Ont he central bank front we had Yellen address Congress and the Senate, with not much new to say, and the Bank of Canada raise rates 25 basis points.

On the back of all the news precious metals rallied after 5 straight down weeks and the broad averages largely ignored everything mentioned above. We look ahead tot he rest of summer and the year to assess what will be the major trends.

I always love to hear from all of you! Please email me at anytime if there are any companies (especially ones at the upcoming Sprott Conference) that you would like me to reach out to and have on the show. My email is Fleck[at]kereport.com.

We hope everyone has a great weekend! I will be at the Make A Wish Slow Pitch For Kids Tournament in Vancouver. It’s one of our favorite tournaments and supports a great organization.

Should be posted under Clinton Haiti article

          Jul 15, 2017 15:53 PM

Yup and the last person who was scheduled to testify against something scandalous that the Clintons were involved in was killed by his exercise equipment before he could testify.

This time suicide by gun shot to the head. At least this time the Clintons used a little more believable method.

Are we seeing the totalitarian-promoting Progressive Left in America using the same tactics as both Islamic and Chinese/dictatorship representatives use in America to address, divert, and influence reporting media and academic institutions? Both the “carrot and the stick” as well as “good guy, bad guy”, and “let me be your source for our country/religion/movement”.

Even in Washington, D.C., there are “influences” there to shape, mold, and divert attention away from classical recognition and defense to more convoluted ineffectiveness. And gradual acceptance over naysayers.

On precious metals: virtually every report I have read/listened to agrees that the July 3 manipulation was more blatant than ever, and coincided with the July 3 week’s FOMC meeting. We can only wait for non-manipulated recovery to previous highs, before the next orchestrated event.

Dang, this cries out for justice. Just unfreakin’ believable how corrupt the Clintons are and they just get away with it. And the lamestream media not only does not cover it but smears people who do try to get the truth out.

Mr. Big Al Korelin, maybe you can do a segment on this for KER Investigations!

Klaus Eberwein, a former Haitian government official who was expected to expose the extent of Clinton Foundation corruption and malpractice next week, has been found dead in Miami. He was 50.

Eberwein was due to appear next Tuesday before the Haitian Senate Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission where he was widely expected to testify that the Clinton Foundation misappropriated Haiti earthquake donations from international donors.

According to Miami-Dade’s medical examiner records supervisor, the official cause of death is “gunshot to the head“. Eberwein’s death has been registered as “suicide.”

Eberwein, who had acknowledged his life was in danger, was a fierce critic of the Clinton Foundation’s activities in the Caribbean island, where he served as director general of the government’s economic development agency, Fonds d’assistance économique et social, for three years.

According to Eberwein, a paltry 0.6% of donations granted by international donors to the Clinton Foundation with the express purpose of directly assisting Haitians actually ended up in the hands of Haitian organizations. A further 9.6% ended up with the Haitian government. The remaining 89.8% – or $5.4 billion – was funneled to non-Haitian organizations.

“The Clinton Foundation, they are criminals, they are thieves, they are liars, they are a disgrace,” Eberwein said at a protest outside the Clinton Foundation headquarters in Manhattan last year.

The former director general of Haiti, who also served as an advisor to Haitian President Michel Martelly, was also a partner in a popular pizza restaurant in Haiti, Muncheez, and even has a pizza — the Klaus Special — named after him.

According to the Haiti Libre newspaper, Eberwein was said to be in “good spirits“, with plans for the future. His close friends and business partners are shocked by the idea he may have committed suicide.

“It’s really shocking,” said Muncheez’s owner Gilbert Bailly. “We grew up together; he was like family.”

Bailly said he last spoke to Eberwein two weeks ago and he was in good spirits. They were excited about future business plans and were working on opening a Muncheez restaurant in Sunrise, he said.

The Haitian government issued an official notice thanking Eberwein for his service and mourning his untimely death.

Friend Insists Death Of Republican Operative Behind WSJ Collusion “Bombshell” Wasn’t A Suicide

Yesterday we reported how the death of Peter Smith, a longtime Republican operative and financier, had been ruled a suicide. Smith was the primary source for a bizarre WSJ story that tried to link National Security Adviser Mike Flynn with a group of individuals organized by Smith who bargained with a Russian hacker group for copies of what were purportedly Hillary Clinton’s missing 30,000 emails.

Smith died on May 14 – 10 days after he was interviewed by WSJ for the piece. Though a reporter initially described his death as stemming from natural causes, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday that it had been, in fact, a suicide, citing local police records that describe the manner of death – asphyxiation due to helium poisoning – and an alleged suicide note that cited his recent ill health and the coming expiry of a life insurance policy as Smith’s reasons for taking his own life.

But before that narrative could catch hold, a longtime associate of Smith who may have been the last person to speak with him has come forward, telling the Daily Caller that he doesn’t believe the police’s suicide ruling…and neither should you.

Charles Ortel, a Wall Street investment banker and market analyst, told the DC that there were no indications the Chicago businessman and anti-Clinton political investigator was about to take his life when the two spoke on the phone the day before his death…

They Want to Put Nano-Chips into Currency So they can track every note

Believe it or not, Australia has a Black Economy Taskforce that hunts down citizens in every possible way. They look at where they send their kids to school and then inquire at the school who pays the bills and how. They are using technology to hack people’s phones of anyone suspected of hiding money to get all their messages and emails as well as where they call overseas. Their own website says:

Gold & Silver COT Report Now Massively Bullish!
Charts Via David Brady – comments by The Hedgeless Horseman

“I can’t overstate how extremely encouraging I find these charts to be. Smart money is the most bullish on gold since 2006. This at a time when the miners are nearing the end of a huge wedge pattern. All I can say is that the smart money is nowhere near positioned for a huge draw down in the metals, but exactly the opposite. Last time we saw positioning like this (2015-2016 bottom), gold had it’s best quarter perhaps ever, along with some miners rallying upwards of 600%.”

A Perfect Storm Is Brewing For A Precious Metals Rally
      by @Goldfinger on July 15, 2017

“The Commitments of Traders reports (CoTs), for the week ending July 11th, which were released yesterday showed some remarkable shifts in market participant positioning in precious metals futures:”

“Large spec positioning in gold futures hasn’t been as low as it is now since the last week of January 2016. Perhaps more importantly swap dealers have moved to their largest net long position in gold in history (more than US$5 billion in net notional length).”

“Swap dealers are market makers in the OTC swaps market, they are banks that enter into swap agreements with clients for a fee and/or a spread. Swap dealers can also trade for their own book, and often do. Given that most swap dealers are using gold and silver futures to hedge swap agreements with counterparties whose natural tendency is to hedge against declines in precious metals prices (mining companies), it is normal for swap dealers to hold a net short position in gold and silver futures. Therefore, it is unusual and noteworthy when swap dealers move to a net long position in precious metals.”

“Swap dealers have also moved to a net long position in both silver and platinum while large & small speculators have continued to reduce net length:”

Shanghai Gold Exchange to offer yuan-back futures contract in Budapest

    Maggie Zhang – Wednesday, 21 Jun 2017

“China is looking to expand the use of its yuan-denominated gold fix overseas, the chairman of the mainland China’s sole gold bourse said on Wednesday, reflecting on Beijing’s attempt to vie for a bigger say in the price-setting of the precious metal.”

“It is now expected that a gold futures contract based on China’s yuan-backed gold benchmark price could be listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange in Hungary as soon as the second half of this year, said Jiao Jinpu, chairman of the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) at the Lujiazui Forum, which ends in Shanghai on Wednesday.”

        Jul 16, 2017 16:54 AM

Agreed Wolfster. There will be a time where the money flows come back into commodities, monetary metals, industrial metals, specialty metals, energy metals, agriculture, and extractive energy stocks. For now, it is not really in vogue, but the only constant is change, and the tide will come in.

Contrarian investing is one of the more lonely undertakings, and it challenges one’s patience, psyche, and emotions on a daily basis. However, active investing in counter-cyclical sectors can be quite rewarding and open many other doors by magnifying digits on a screen.

Some people get caught up in these digits on a screen (well, we all do sometimes), but really it is what those digits can do that should remain the focus. They can be cashed in for physical items in the “real world” (like homes, pools, cars, tablets, etc..) or used for experiences (travel, massage, fencing lessons, or tickets to the symphony); or used for making a change (donating to a cause one believes in, charity, starting a program/fund/business, random acts of kindness, fireworks, and pie fights).

Mastering the inner game is one of the best gifts of contrarian investing though, because one learns a great deal about one’s strengths and weaknesses in the process. If nothing else, that is a worthwhile endeavor.

      Jul 15, 2017 15:05 PM

      B:

People got carried away with Novo. Until assay results start to come out, it’s an unknown. The management is brilliant, the project has blue sky to the moon, the nuggets are a really good sign but there is a lot of work to be done. The action of last week was wonderful because for the first time in five years there is the liquidity to either buy a good position or to sell a good position.

I love the company, I love the project and I love the shares. But chasing stocks just because the herd is doesn’t make any sense at all. If Novo goes down, I will buy more.

        Jul 15, 2017 15:13 PM

That was one big-picture-bullish, powerful move. Notice that it blasted all the way to a very significant fork resistance that was two years in the making and did so on massive/record volume. When you combine that resistance with the quick 103% gain, there’s no reason to view the pullback negatively. Such short term action will always deliver such a response regardless of the long term destination.

        http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=NVO.V&p=W&yr=4&mn=2&dy=0&id=p21582127681&a=534569116

        Jul 15, 2017 15:15 PM

Bob M – Good comments about Novo Resources and I agree that while the nuggets on the huge land package that they have staked are a good sign, there is still a lot of work to do. For those that positioned much lower it was a very nice liquidity event, and that is why I mentioned trimming on the surge, in case it got too frothy.

When the stock went up that strongly on just those 2 videos and the press release,(the madness of crowds and “Fear Of Missing Out”), then it is only normal for it to retrace back some. The pullback on Thu/Fri was to be expected after such a parabolic move up.

The encouraging thing is that now NVO is on many more investors radar, and maybe they’ll get clued in to the bigger picture where Novo has other great properties and is also moving into production on one of them in the near future. Novo was getting ignored on many of their other successful milestones, and now investors will be paying attention. Personally, I’m very constructive on their Exploration team and the managements strategy and look forward to more success from Novo as the progress forward their different assets.

        Ever Upward!

          Jul 15, 2017 15:27 PM

It will be interesting to see the results from their trenching and bulk tonnage sample that I believe Quinton said was about 3-4 weeks away. If the stock pulls back a bit more over that time period then I may add back some of those shares I trimmed to get in front of the news. Good stuff!

I tell you boys single payer is coming. Today I went for a ride and decided to stop at the local library to see what was going on. An old woman had a table up and was taking signatures. She saw me ride up and asked if I wanted to sign. I said for what and she said single payer. Single prayer I jokingly asked and she said very slowly and loudly single payer health care.

I asked how much it’s going to cost and she said a lot less than you’re paying now. Yeah, right. Before I could say anything 4 people queued up to sign and she started telling them how wonderful it will be as it will include free dental, prescriptions and a bunch of other stuff. It sounded like an initiative drive to get it on the state wide ballot next election. As I rode away the line had expanded to ten people. And I live in a red county in the middle of nowhere although within the city limits there are pockets of blue. Anyway, I think that with the next Demorat in the White House we get single payer at the national level.

The demise of Democracy occurs when the sheeple vote themselves “free” stuff and bankrupt the system.

Alas this usually allows a fascist dictatorship to occur to “save” the system.

      Jul 15, 2017 15:10 PM

She mentioned to one of her fellow sheeple that there would be no co-insurance and deductibles.

I didn’t catch all of it but it sounded very similar to what the nurses union in California is trying to get passed. That scheme would have no premiums, no deductibles, no co-insurance and cover everything (literally, from dentistry to marriage and family counseling) and cover everyone, even people not in the country legally and people from other states.

Can you imagine what the demand for health care will be when the cost to the recipient is zero and everyone qualifies?

Total insanity yet the sheeple were lining up to sign the petition.

Often based on arbitrary considerations depending on the political make-up of city councils; sometimes instigated by federal planning changes, agenda 21 or proposition 2030 and all that. Generally local government always seems to restrict more and more; rarely less and less. Often distorting opinion polls to get the appearance of public acceptance.

Drudge Headline “SENATE SLUSH: BILLIONS FOR HEALTH VOTES”
Politico “Republicans use state payoffs to win votes for repeal bill”

Republicans hammered Democrats seven and a-half years ago for larding Obamacare with state-specific payoffs and sweeteners to secure the last few votes for passage. Who can forget the “Cornhusker Kickback,” which funneled $45 million to Nebraska to nail the support of former Sen. Ben Nelson?

But the revised Senate Obamacare repeal bill shows Republicans engaged in the same pattern of horse trading as they try to win 50 ayes to advance an unpopular bill.

Leaders are likely to cook up even more deals to entice uncommitted senators. As conservative health policy expert Chris Jacobs points out at The Federalist, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell still has about $200 billion that he can spend on holdouts without breaking Senate budget rules he’s using to try to pass the legislation. The Trump administration is pitching a proposal to Nevada as a way to bring Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval and Sen. Dean Heller on board that aims to move Medicaid expansion enrollees into the private insurance market where they could use subsidies to help pay for premiums.

Here’s a rundown of some of the ways the latest bill seeks to win over members of the GOP caucus:

Alaska — The most blatant attempted buyoff is aimed at Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski, who has been decidedly unenthusiastic about potential coverage losses in the state. In what’s been dubbed the “Polar Payoff,” the revised legislation stipulates that any state with premiums that are at least 75 percent higher than the national average must receive at least 1 percent of state stability funding. There’s only one state that meets that threshold: Alaska. With $182 billion designated for stabilization efforts in the revised bill, that translates to at least $1.82 billion for Alaska.

You can read the rest here http://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/14/republicans-state-payoffs-obamacare-240578

    It will turn your stomach.

In 4 or 8 years when Trump is gone and this whole steaming pile collapses the masses will be clamoring for single payer and the Demonrats will deliver and when they are done with you, you won’t have a single prayer.

Romneycare, Bammycare, Ryan/McConnell/Trumpcare…the trojan horses that deliver socialized medicine, just as they were designed to.

Yes, the irony is a bit thick, eh? 🙂

Regardless, it’s about time someone addressed the importance Nuclear energy plays in the US, after 8 years of the Obama administration barely uttering the word “Nuclear.”

What is insane is how much Uranium the US imports from Kazakhstan, Russia, and other countries that could cripple our energy output if they crimped the supply or raised tariffs. Overall the US imports 90% of it’s Uranium, and yet there are domestic producers like Energy Fuels, Ur-Energy, Peninsula Energy, and soon Anfield Energy that can’t ramp up with the current super low spot prices below the cost of production. If the US imported 90% of it’s Oil or Nat Gas there would be hell to pay, but everyone shrugs off the import of Uranium because they don’t realize about 18% of our nations power is from Nuclear. This current energy environment just makes very little sense, and at this point, I’m happy to see anyone in government that will at least address the situation.

What’s your thoughts on Cameco? I am a long time sufferer…er…share holder.

            Jul 15, 2017 15:06 PM

I’ve never been a bit fan of Cameco, and am far more bullish on the smaller Jr Producers, Developers, and quality Explorers. Cameco is the largest public Uranium miner, and has a disproportionate weighting in URA as a result, but they are like the Goldcorp or Barrick of U308. I don’t like the large behemoth mining juggernauts as they are too widely followed by analysts (and thus stay more fairly valued) and it is too hard for them to grow on a percentage basis. The only thing that might save their hides is if they bought a key explorer to replenish their reserves, but at this point in the cycle, it seems unlikely that they have the resources to do so.

Cameco’s mines are old, deep, and plagued with water issues. Many don’t realize that they actually freeze the ground far in advance of tunneling and mining it because the Athabasca is filled with above ground and underground water.

Their balance sheet is more distressed than it has been in a long time, and they’ve had to put mines on care and maintenance and scale back existing mines due to the low prices.

As if that wasn’t enough, this year they’ve had TEPCO in Japan trying to exit their most profitable longer term supply contract on Force Majeure, and it is coming at a time where they are already handicapped financially. The whole sector is down across the board, but smaller companies can bounce back easier.

When/If the Uranium prices recover, Cameco will rebound, but there is better value in the sector in my opinion.

            Jul 15, 2017 15:18 PM

The French Uranium conglomerate Areva is also suffering greatly and breaking up different divisions of their company.

Paladin, who has large mines, is swirling the toilet bowl, and has major issues of solvency to address. They’ve been selling stakes in the mines the last few years, and ran into a snag on their last transaction, and some of their key management jumped ship over to Deep Yellow.

Energy Resources of Australia (who has a bad track record IMO) and partnered with Rio Tinto has all kinds of skeletons in the closet as this recent editorial points out:

            https://seekingalpha.com/article/4087490-red-river-report-downfall-great-australian-miner

            __________________________________________________________________________

As a result, the old guard in Uranium (Cameco, Areva, Paladin, ERA, Uranium One) is really struggling, and when things turn, it will be smaller companies that get on their bikes and ride.

Energy Fuels, Ur-Energy, Denison Mines, UEC, Peninsula Energy, Anfield Energy, Bannerman, Berkeley, GoviEx, Toro Energy, Plateau Uranium, Western Uranium, etc….

There are also some Explorers that may fare better because they are continuing to define resources like Nexgen, UEX Corp, Skyharbour, ALX Uranium, Deep Yellow, Fission, Kivalliq, Purepoint, etc…

Right now I’m just holding on to my current positions which are all OK, but only because I trimmed in Jan/Feb of this year reducing their position size and cost-basis. I don’t expect most to fall too much more, and if the PMs and Base Metals have a nice run later in 2017, then I plan on rotating some winning back over to different sectors like Uranium and Lithium and Prospect Generator companies for deep storage.

Copper production to take a quantum leap in this mining nation
    Oilprice.com | about 12 hours ago

“Based on these developments, the study authors are projecting a huge jump in Peru’s overall copper production. They expect national output to hit 4.8 million tonnes per year by 2021 — more than double the 2.3 million tonnes Peru put out last year.”

“That kind of growth would cement Peru as the world’s fastest-growing copper mining nation, with output here already having increased 77 percent since 2012.”

“In fact, the growth projected above might allow Peru to challenge Chile for top spot in the copper world. The Peruvian target of 4.8 million tonnes of yearly production is not far below Chile’s 2016 output of 5.5 million tonnes — which itself was down 5 percent from Chile’s 2015 level, as the industry struggles to keep up with cost escalation and labor difficulties.”
