Gold Above $1,300 and Oil Moving Down

Cory
August 28, 2017

Gold is at its high for 2017 above $1,300. Chris Temple and I discuss what is driving the price. The good news is that this recent breakout is not because of any one individual story – political or otherwise. We also look at the move down by oil and what this means in a bigger picture sense.

      No Fangs for the Fins

      Aug 28, 2017 28:28 PM

I think I would have to agree with the Finnish president.
President Trump has been co-opted by the oligarchy and is not taking a stand where it counts. He is being told what to be for and against and in the case of the incident at Charlottesville he is charging through the middle with a grey hat and a pride flag as a cape. In the end no one will be impressed and after enough time anyone capable of learning from history will be offended. The right will look for some one else to support in the next federal election if it happens.

Come on guys, surely you understand the PM markets by now.
Options expire. London market, which is low on physical, closes and then the market takes off.

We had been taking hits every day this last week and with options expiry they now stop manipulation for a while.

Who is going to pay for the damages in Texas? One early estimate is $30 billion in damages.

Chris, does this affect the federal budget negotiations? Does extra money now need to be allocated by Congress to help Houston recover?

      Aug 28, 2017 28:34 AM

Every Tom, Dick and Harry, and Ellen too………..

          Heck, be a contrarian. lol

Anyone that owns it, open your eyes,

Louisiana still hasnt recovered and Texas is hit. Anyone think Texas OR Louisiana will be recovered when the next one hits?
The storms are only going to get stronger.

          Well, imo anyway.

      GIVE TO ESTABLISHED RELIEF AGENCIES

GuideStar’s website has a database that lets you vet charities. You can find information on a charity’s expenses, assets and revenue, as well as its programs.

Stacy Palmer, editor of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, also suggests looking at a charity’s website for information on how it will use donations. And look through local news reports for information on a charity’s work, or contacting the local United Way and the local Community Foundation — in this case Houston’s.

It’s up to you whether to go with a local charity that might know the area better, or a national charity that has wider reach. Palmer says “both kinds of organizations have their place right now.”

      ___

      TEXTING TO GIVE?

It might be tempting to make a donation through text and have the phone company charge it on your phone bill. It’s easy, and it might feel as though it’s the quickest way to get money to a charity.

But Palmer says that’s not the case, as charities have to wait for the phone companies to release the money.

The quickest way to give is to go to the charity’s website and donate directly, using a credit or debit card. That said, relief agencies will need money beyond first few days or even weeks, so if the ease of text donations appeals to you, tap away. Apple users in the U.S. can also donate to the American Red Cross through the company’s iTunes and app stores. Amounts range from $5 to $200, and you can’t use store credit.

Wouldnt it be funny if it was the envirnment that brought the american empire down and not the military industrial complex or fed.

I can see small boat sales in the gulf states and the eastern seaboard states being profitable.

Absolutely John, and hopefully Trump sends the military there to help out quickly.

Whats interesting is we have climate change deniers here, and they continue to deny even when this stuff happens.
We were told years ago this would happen, by “wacko bought and paid for scientists” tho

Your absolutely correct John, there is nothing even remotely funny about whats going on.

    Corey,
agreed on the Mayweather vs McGregor fix…..total kabuki theatre B.S!!! WWF comes to mind! It makes me feel boxing is officially dead and buried forever. I was hoping it would evolve/devolve into a best-of-three with Mayweather having to actually step into McGregor’s office/octagon for the next fight. Too bad…would have been nice to see.

Boxing is an antiquated hangover, not a sport, and should be retired to the annals of history, in my opinion.

Strong Hurricanes Getting Stronger; Warming Is Blamed
      Willie Drye
      for National Geographic News
      September 4, 2008
Global warming is causing powerful hurricanes to become even more intense, a new study says.

Warmer seawater has boosted the average wind speed of powerful hurricanes from 140 miles (225 kilometers) an hour in 1981 to 157 miles (253 kilometers) an hour in 2007, according to the study’s lead author, geographer James Elsner of Florida State University.

        Aug 28, 2017 28:14 PM

I am more concerned about a new ice age than warming. We are overdue for one. We should try to encourage warming to delay the next ice age as along as possible

          b
          Aug 28, 2017 28:53 PM

Actually there is a good argument for an ice age.

I still say a person only needs to look for himself.

Look at the strength of the storms for example.
They get stronger due to energy building up caused by the warming of the oceans.

          Ice is shrinking, not growing.
An argument for a long time was ice was increasing in antarctica, …see the size of the ice chunk that just broke off down there?

geez, enough has melted there we get to see long lost pyrimids now. lol
Anyone should be able to see ice melting in the arctic and glaciers around the world.

Investers have taken note the nw passage opening up.

If canada could get away from the american grip, they could be negotiating with russia double hulled vessels threw there.

Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet: Sea Level
            https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/sea-level

Sea level rise is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers and the expansion of sea water as it warms. The first graph tracks the change in sea level since 1993 as observed by satellites.

The second graph, derived from coastal tide gauge data, shows how much sea level changed from about 1870 to 2000.

If gold continues it’s climb towards $1400 like many are suggesting………what are your expectations for PPP if you don’t mind telling the board?

        Aug 28, 2017 28:08 PM

I know it doesn’t seem likely now, but I expect a significant bounce if gold gets going in the manner that I think it will. Beyond that, there’s still the potential for an amended agreement with Wheaton Precious Metals that could turn things around in a significant way.

I have already locked-in a significant loss but still have plenty of shares left. If not for the great deals elsewhere in the sector right now, I would probably still have the entire position.
