    There’s nothing like California politics.
Rather than fund and run pension funds efficiently, they prefer to screw pensioners by playing politics:

The board of supervisors ought to be held personally responsible for their fiscal irresponsibility.

Cory, you don’t think the Fed is ambiguous?

I don’t think they will ever “normalize” their balance sheets.
We are using stealth Zimbabwe economics.

Oh I think the Fed is extremely ambiguous. It is telling the market one thing but could easily back off. I think they continue to talk and see how the market reacts. Actions speak louder than words. Plus all the comments about what they are watching for policy has proven to not exactly been true 😉

    A future trend?

All of Hawaii’s eight licensed marijuana dispensaries have agreed to go cashless by Oct. 1, the governor’s office said. The dispensaries will ask patients to use a debit payment app to buy their pot instead of cash. The app is already an option for marijuana transactions in six states, including California and Colorado.

Iris Ikeda, the state’s financial institutions commissioner, told reporters at a news conference that state officials haven’t discussed whether people wanting to pay in cash will be turned away from dispensaries.

“Oct. 1 is our target date to try to go cashless as much as we can,” Ikeda said.

Helen Cho, director of the Honolulu-based Aloha Green dispensary, said dispensaries won’t be required to go cashless and the company won’t turn away patients who want to pay in cash. The dispensary will be encouraging people to use the cashless system, she said.

Many marijuana businesses use cash because banks fear pot money could expose them to legal trouble from the U.S. government, which regulates banking and still bans marijuana.

The debit app called CanPay uses a Colorado-based credit union to facilitate transactions. The Hawaii dispensaries will set up accounts with the credit union, called Safe Harbor Private Banking.

Under the cashless system, customers use their checking accounts to pay CanPay, which sends the payment to Safe Harbor.

    N. Korean Hackers Step Up Bitcoin Attacks
North Korea appears to be stepping up efforts to secure bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which could be used to avoid trade restrictions including new sanctions approved by the United Nations Security Council.

Hackers from Kim Jong Un’s regime are increasing their attacks on cryptocurrency exchanges in South Korea and related sites, according to a new report from security researcher FireEye Inc. They also breached an English-language bitcoin news website and collected bitcoin ransom payments from global victims of the malware WannaCry, according to the researcher.

Kim’s apparent interest in cryptocurrencies comes amid rising prices and popularity. The same factors that have driven their success — lack of state control and secretiveness — would make them useful fund raising and money laundering tools for a man threatening to use nuclear weapons against the U.S. With tightening sanctions and usage of cryptocurrencies broadening, security experts say North Korea’s embrace of digital cash will only increase.

“We definitely see sanctions being a big lever driving this sort of activity,” said Luke McNamara, a researcher at FireEye and author of the new report. “They probably see it as a very low-cost solution to bring in hard cash.”

The 15-member Security Council on Monday approved sanctions aimed at punishing North Korea for its latest missile and nuclear tests. U.S. officials said the new measures would cut the country’s textile exports by 90 percent, restricting its ability to get hard currency.

“The resolution is “a product of heinous provocation aimed at depriving the DPRK of its legitimate right to self-defense and completely suffocating its state and people through a full-scale economic blockade,” the statement went on.”

Is this not true? Was there ever any valid reason for the US to slaughter 20% of the N Korean population? If 1 in 5 was killed, what % were wounded? What % went through extreme hardship of starvation and exposure to bitter cold, when their infrastructure was demolished?

Is it so far-fetched for them to believe that the US wants them either dead or living on their knees? Is it so incomprehensible that they are willing to play for all the marbles to avoid this fate?

Who has North Korea attacked? Who has America NOT attacked or, failing that, targeted with covert aggression?

America is the problem here, not North Korea.

N Korea is all about maintaining a beachhead on the Asian mainland, providing a pretext for US military maneuvers and presence in the region, and keeping the Trillion$ flowing to the Military Intelligence Industrial Mafia.

Does anyone actually believe N Korea would attack anyone, if left in peace? Ahhh, yes, that’s why we’re bombarded with the notion that they are insane. They MUST be perceived as insane, or there would be zero reason to worry, and we might actually pay attention to the SOBs robbing our future.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan is declining to say a tax overhaul Republicans are trying to write won’t increase federal deficits.

In an AP Newsmakers interview on Wednesday, the Wisconsin Republican sidestepped a question on whether Republicans would ensure their still-evolving measure wouldn’t boost budget shortfalls. He said the party plans to unveil its plans later this month and the goal will be to bolster economic growth.

Ryan says the GOP wants to enact a tax cut into law by the end of this year, not simply to push a bill through the House. He said he wants the U.S. to start 2018 with a new tax system.

Rewriting the tax code, including lowering personal and corporate income tax rates, is a top goal for President Donald Trump and the GOP.

    CFS comment.

With mostly liberal arts degrees in the press, they are economic morons.

They like to cite Bill Clinton balancing the budget (which he actually did not), but forget that reduction was due to Gingrich imposing on him tax cuts and decreases in spending increases.

Ryan and Trump are both RINOs in my opinion , not true conservative Republicans.
There will be a whole lot of pork attached to any budget bill for all the cronies.

Lawsuit Targets Searches Of Electronic Devices At US Border
By DEB RIECHMANN – Associated Press – 33 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal lawsuit filed Wednesday claims the U.S. government’s growing practice of searching laptops and cellphones at the border is unconstitutional because electronic devices now carry troves of private personal and business information. The government has vociferously defended its searches as critical to protecting the homeland.

The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, and requires law enforcement to secure warrants based on probable cause. Courts, however, have made an exception for searches at U.S. ports of entry and airports. They’ve ruled the government can do warrantless border searches to enforce immigration and customs laws and protect national security.

CFS comment: If people are so clueless about encoding private data, they should not be carrying such data on laptops, across borders, since it will be hacked anyway.

    Somebody tell the US Navy…..

BOSTON (AP) — Self-driving cars may not hit the road in earnest for many years – but autonomous boats could be just around the pier.
Spurred in part by the car industry’s race to build driverless vehicles, marine innovators are building automated ferry boats for Amsterdam canals, cargo ships that can steer themselves through Norwegian fjords and remote-controlled ships to carry containers across the Atlantic and Pacific. The first such autonomous ships could be in operation within three years.
One experimental workboat spent this summer dodging tall ships and tankers in Boston Harbor, outfitted with sensors and self-navigating software and emblazoned with the words “UNMANNED VESSEL” across its aluminum hull.
“We’re in full autonomy now,” said Jeff Gawrys, a marine technician for Boston startup Sea Machines Robotics, sitting at the helm as the boat floated through a harbor channel.
“Roger that,” said computer scientist Mohamed Saad Ibn Seddik, as he helped to guide the ship from his laptop on a nearby dock.
The boat still needs human oversight. But some of the world’s biggest maritime firms have committed to designing ships that won’t need any captains or crews — at least not on board.
