Summarizing month and quarter for investors

In an extended market wrap Chris Temple and I look at a wide range of markets now that we are turning the corner to Q4. We start with the US equity markets which continue to hit new all time highs across the board. Then it’s the safe havens of gold and treasuries that were hit this month but no where near their lows. Finally the USD and oil are discussed. One thing is for sure… Liquidity is available and it continues to be injected in the markets.

The resignation follows a Politico report according to which Tim Price took military jets to Europe, Asia for over $500K. In addition to all of the more than two dozen private and chartered jets Price has taken since May, the pricetag had risen north of $1 million taxpayer dollars, according to calculations made by Politico.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Thousands of Puerto Ricans were finally getting water and food rations Friday as an aid bottleneck began to ease, but many remained cut off from the basic necessities of life and were desperate for power, communications and other trappings of normality in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

There were many people across the island, especially outside the capital, who were unable to get water, gas or generator fuel. That was despite the fact that military trucks laden with water bottles and other supplies began to reach various parts of Puerto Rico and U.S. federal officials pointed to progress in the recovery effort, insisting that more gains would come soon.

In some cases, aid that was being distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency was simply not enough to meet demand on an island of 3.4 million people where nearly everyone was still without power, half were without running water in their homes and the economy was still crippled from the effects of the storm that swept across the U.S. territory as a fierce Category 4 hurricane on Sept. 20.

It is amazing to me that the US government cannot manage to run the country on $ 3 Trillion, but has to run over by $ 675 Billion.

    THE SIGNS OF QUICKENING?

At a conference in Australia on Friday, Musk said if you build a ship capable of going to the moon and Mars, why not use it for high-speed transport here at home. He proposes using his still-in-the-design phase rocket for launching passengers from New York to Shanghai in 39 minutes flat.
Los Angeles to New York, or Los Angeles to Honolulu in 25 minutes. London to Dubai in 29 minutes.
“Most of what people consider to be long-distance trips would be completed in less than half an hour,” Musk said to applause and cheers at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide.
A seat should cost about the same as a full-fare economy plane ticket, he noted later via Instagram.

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

President Trump’s top candidate for the next chairman of the Federal Reserve Board appears to be former board member Kevin M. Warsh, who has complained repeatedly about the Fed’s manipulation of markets and in 2009 revealed to GATA that the Fed has secret gold swap arrangements with foreign banks.

According to news reports like this one from Bloomberg today —

Warsh met Thursday with the president and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to discuss the Fed chairman’s job.
