Worries Creeping Into Treasuries and US Markets
Chris Temple, Editor of The National Investor shares his thoughts on the treasury and US equity markets. The call of yields peaking this year that Chris made a couple weeks ago could have come sooner that even he expected. The 10 year is closing in on 2.8%, which a break lower could pick up steam. As for the US markets they have been unable to test the recent all time highs are are sending mixed signals to investors. We discuss what Chris is watching most closely moving forward from a data perspective.

The Rising Interest-Rate Trend
March 5, 2018
“The rising interest-rate trend in the US isn’t new and isn’t related to the Fed’s so-called “policy normalisation” program. However, it has only just started to matter.”
“That the rising interest-rate trend isn’t new and isn’t related to the Fed’s rate-hiking efforts is clearly illustrated by the following chart. This chart shows that the US 2-year T-Note yield began trending upward in 2011 — more than 6 years ago and more than 4 years prior to the Fed’s first rate hike.”
Good analysis. There is a significant gap on the 10-year down to 26.76. This will likely be approached, and possibly filled. PMs usually rally when rates drop a lot, but didn’t today.
The bond bull is likely over, but the rise in yields looks ready to take a break for a while. I posted this weekly chart of the 10-year US treasury yield in Jan ’17, but it’s still relevant.
The 30-year has broken out of a 32-year downtrending channel.

Beautiful pennant on the Dow daily chart. Gee I wonder which way it’s going to break?
With respect to gold, I think it’s probably starting it’s terminal decline into a daily cycle low (DCL) today. Not sure if it will bottom around the FOMC (would be early based on recent DC length) or the April jobs report (would be right on schedule). No clue whatsoever what the banksters do with the miners and silver. Will they positively diverge a bit or will they get slaughtered into the DCL? By slaughtered I mean GDX below $20, perhaps $18 or even lower.
Stupid video from a stupid person.
