With the news (and tweets) that moved the markets yesterday I wanted to take a step back with Kevin Vecmanus, Founder of Vanaurum. We discuss the larger trends at play which investors should be focusing on.

Gold in full retreat mode here! It is now the middle of april and the yellow metal is showing zero potential of breaking through the 1360 mark. The summer doldrums are not far away.

Yes, it’s a good time to accumulate — especially the gold/silver miners. Some corrections scare you out and others wear you out but this one has done both to a lot of people.
The situation is far more bullish than bearish yet, as usual, most will end up chasing the next move or sitting it out.

I’ll admit the set up looks good here.

I’m pretty sure this is what Charlie Brown says to Lucy every single time too.

Matthew- long time reader, enjoy your posts and charts! Any thoughts on AAU/Almaden? I don’t recall you ever mentioning it. It’s been battered, and there’s been some resistance from the locals about a mine being built. Any thoughts?

I did very well with Almaden during the cycle that peaked in 2011 but haven’t followed it closely since.
The company has a good management team that has a great reputation for honesty and competence and, from what I can tell, is well worth owning for the coming bull cycle.
Based on the charts and my outlook for the rest of the sector, the downside risk is probably about 15% to 20% while the upside potential is almost unlimited.
Wild price swings that have little to do with the fundamentals are a feature of the junior miners that attracts us as much as it repels us but Almaden is nearly as safe as they come.

I’m not worried about the NGO dirtballs that want to cause trouble. Maybe someone else can share something on this.

On April 12, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis revaled that no decision had been reached by President Donald Trump about a strike on Syria. Mattis added that the U.S. is still waiting to see the evidence of a chemical attack.

“We are not engaged on the ground there, so I cannot tell you that we have evidence, though we certainly had a lot of media and social media indicators that either chlorine or sarin were used,” Mattis said.

He also complained that Russia and Syria had allegedly opposed the investigation.

The Defense Secretary said that the US “will not know from this investigating team that goes in, if we can get them in, if the regime will let them in, we will not know who did it.”

“They can only say that they found evidence or did not, and each day that goes by as you know it is a non-persistent gas so it becomes more and more difficult to confirm. So that is where we are at right now.”
