Was Powell’s Speech At Jackson Hole Really The Dovish?

Cory
August 27, 2018

Chris Temple joins me to recap Jerome Powell’s speech last Friday at Jackson Hole. I have read a number of commentaries that concluded that it was a dovish speech. however I did not have the same takeaway. Chris shares his thoughts and correlated what we are seeing in US markets, the USD, and risk-off assets.

It is the Mexican-American trade deal that is mowing the markets.

By all historical measures, the markets ARE ALREADY over-heated…..but are they true “free” markets anymore?

Following momentum is great until things suddenly change and momentum crushes you.

    Meanwhile in Europe….
Italy is threatening to refuse to pay EU dues unless the immigration policy is changed.

US farmers expected to get $7.5 billion boost for compensation of loss of trade due to foreign tariffs.

The reason the dollar is down is that German economy is reported stronger than thought……hence euro up.

It is the same old algos being run by the same old insiders ignored by the same old regulators running the markets:

Well, I foolishly listened to a cycles guy – no one from here at KEReport – back in April who warned that cycles were warning of a dangerous time in the markets in mid-May.

That dangerous time then became end of May… which then became late June… which became late July… which became August and which has recently become September.

So glad that I cancelled my planned large buy for AMD back in late April at under $10 – yes, I am 100% responsible for what I buy, sell and don’t buy / sell. My fault for not following through with my fundamentals.

Excuse me whilst I go bang my head repeatedly against a wall.

O learys advice of owning 5-10% phyzz gold and not the shares has been good the last while.

    check out canadian pot companies.

Im sure there is other stuff doing well but thats the one I know of.

As far as Im concerned pots been the place to be since we got that good bounce in PMs, so long ago now I dont recall when it was.

Canopy growth in 2016 was under $3 now is in the $60s.
It does look like it should top and come down but aphria just made a deal that could cause the share price to rise.

I have no idea of american stuff, best of luck.

      b,
I don’t own canopy, because I have moral objections to the company, but fundamentally it is wrong to think it will top, before some time AFTER cannabis becomes legalised widely.

You could be right cfs, Im no chart reader, just looks parabolic to me.

Thing is, the pot shares are moving up on the hype as they have been for sometime now, recently its beer companies.(anyone own those?)

Once its legal people will see pot companies running out of product, demand is going to be thru the roof.

So, what company ya wanna own? one that has to borrow money just to stay alive like jr miners? or a company that has a very long way to go before they can meet demand?

They are going to prove money grows on, well, trees, bushes some kinda plant but it grows. lol

        5-10% gold, 90-95% sumtin else.

Hey b……I like canntrust as the next takeout target by a pharma and I’m holding a lot of cannaroyalty for its exposure to California which has a market bigger than all of Canada

            Aug 27, 2018 27:15 PM

I thought Cali was about the same size as canada, I sure could be wrong, just what I thought for some reason.
In any case, canadian growers are after markets all over the world.
Whatever happens and whatever they’re doin, they gonna grow big time.
Should be awhile before they level off.

I just watched the news saying in Colorado, thee is o much happening with pot now it has become a currency.
It always was of course, but now its gotten big enough for people that dont partake to have noticed.

            ur picks sound good.

Yep, my potstocks have been bringing me a lot more joy than my miners, so far 🙂

Every dog has its day, though.

    OFF Topic: Political.

It is becoming clear that not only Mueller has a vindictive paranoid ideological vendetta against Trump, but he is very politically astute. The fact that he is moving lots of action out to state courts (e.g. southern district of New York) means that the political actions will remain in the news for a long time even after the Mueller probe is rounded up as being ineffective.

It must be interesting to be part of the Mueller investigation and have access to investigation materials and statements. The general public knows nothing as Mueller keeps his information inhouse like all law enforcement agencies prearrest.

Surely Mueller has a whole team of cut-throat political operatives behind him plotting strategy.
