About 18 months ago, I spent a month touring around Australia and New Zealand.
It is VERY noticeable that there is a strong Chinese presence in both those countries.
It seems to me this is as much due to the immense opportunities available to young hard-workers there, as it would be induced by Chinese leadership.
Now, I guess it would not be difficult, because of relatives left behind in China, that pressure could be put on ex-Chinese citizens to spy for China, so perhaps the occurence of large numbers of spies could have arisen fortuatively rather than been planned.
Certainly, just visiting Australia and New Zealand, I was surprised by the number of Chinese.

I personally have always thought covid-19 release was simply a mistake of poor techniques at the institute of Virology in Wuhan. However the way China has certainly benefitted from the disease certainly brings into question whether the release was truly accidental.
I still choose to believe accidental, because the alternative is just too malicious and devious. There really must be a human moral difference between stealing trade secrets and taking the life surreptitiously of hundreds of thousands of human beings.
