    I posted this yesterday:×389.png
For those that missed it, it show electricity generation in Texas.
Nuclear did not fail and was steady.
    Coal was fairly constant.
Gas took up all the slack until demand just got too great.
Solar only works in the day time.
Wind power was a worthless failure because of freeze-up, even though there was wind.

Texas just never planned to be able to cover the demand, which exceeded all reasonable need estimates…..clearly a black swan event.
Unfortunately, it cost both lives and a lot of replumbing costs to the unfortunates who lost power.
(Note even most gas furnaces don’t work without electricity.)

I might add that in Texas, under normal weather conditions, wind generation is both the cheapest generation and often could supply a majority of electrical needs.
It was never equipped with heaters to prevent freeze up, because of capital costs, for a “once-in-a-lifetime-event”. They gambled the black swan event would not happen.
My guess is there will be retrofits, if they are possible.

    Indianapolis Star……………..Scanner useless…..
The study, published in Experimental Physiology, had four key takeaways:

People infected with the virus don’t always present with a fever. If they do, it’s usually not until after hospitalization.
Skin temperature is not a reliable indicator of deep body temperature, which is necessary to detect a fever.
Even if the scanner could detect deep body temperature, it doesn’t necessarily mean a person has the coronavirus.
Taking two temperatures–at the finger and the eye–are better indicators of deep body temperature than scanning the skin’s surface.

It had increasingly disturbed me that SCOTUS decisions have been made along political lines.
Now I see, indeed, these People in Black carry appropriate colors.
