World Reserve Currencies: What Happened During Previous Periods of Transition?

We chat often about how the US Dollar will no longer be the world reserve currency sooner rather than later. This post takes us back through history to understand what happened at each juncture when the reserve currency changed. The time period for each currency’s reign are presented int he chart below.
