This article from Alhambra Investment Partners sums up the issues that many of us see in America. I agree with them that on a high level a country’s economy depends on workforce / job growth as well as productivity growth. Unfortunately both of these have been dropping. The Fed has been implementing policies to reverse this downward trend but continue to be unsuccessful and some would even argue have steepened the downward curve.

While the author is very negative about where the US stands currently, he does holdout some hope that things can change. The only issue as he states “It will take some political courage, something that has been lacking in our “leaders” for quite a long time”.
