IF the US stays uninvolved with Ukraine, I don’t see a problem. Merkel and Putin have the situation in hand.

My worry is the Obama administration. We have idiot Kerry and even more stupid Biden. I don’t think Obama is that involved. He’s an ex-union rabble-rouser with no foreign policy experience. Sure he hates the US and free enterprise and Capitalist systems, but I don’t think he will be involved unless he can put muslims or blacks in power and there are insignificant numbers of those groups in Ukraine.

Bob, I agree with you 100%. That was an excellent summary you offered. I think we are tied in this situation and it would be ill advised to engage a conflict. Unfortunately, Russia has the high ground with their interests and will probably push knowing that a direct confrontation with them is totally unacceptable to most in the West. What can we really do other than watch as witnesses as they assert themselves?

There is some truth to that Bill!

    Feb 26, 2014 26:45 PM

    Just a thought:

With Russia having vetoed 3 previous U.N resolutions aimed at putting pressure on Syria while voting in support of the most recent one (that of providing humanitarian aid in Syria), might Putin be doing a tacit deal with Europe and the West in telling them to butt our of Ukraine?

I was thinking Bobm that Iraq was like Yugoslavia (Bosnia / Serbia / Croatia). Now that one is all separated off into individual states and Torvill and Dean have ahd to wait 30 years to do their skating that won them their gold medal in Sarajevo in 1984. Iraq is probably 3 separate states and the Ukraine is two, or is it more? Iraq is now a huge mess for 10 years so far, thanks to us I guess maybethe Ukraine could go the same way.

I would pay BIG MONEY to see Obama and Putin in a UFC fight. My money would be on Putin.

Some areas of the world are akin to the commonly muddy tracks on football field.
They keep on being run over by guys (some in uniform) that do not like each other.

I think silver has to go to the moon so that I can afford a new home at the end of march. I just got an eviction notice because the building is being sold. Any thing half decent costs a quarter million at the cheap end of the market and wage rates are 40 out of date relative to real estate prices.

The Black Sea = Black Swan = compliments of Black Ops with a budget of $billions that walks around the world in suitcases and goes unaccounted for.

Putin doesn’t want all of Ukraine, just Crimea. The rest of this bankrupt country can go to the EU, who will be only too happy to give them loans, slap sanctions on them, and absorb the mob of youths under 30 whose only dream is to emigrate.

    Feb 27, 2014 27:17 AM

If a real WW3 breaks out real estate prices won’t mean a damned thing. Once the nukes start flying the EMP and blast effects will destroy electronic and financial systems and currency. Real estate itself is at risk of destruction through acts of war.

      Feb 27, 2014 27:13 PM

Correct. Gold would not be much use either. What would though would be narcotics, alcohol, bullets, shelter and food. For a while anyways.

I live in Europe (Belgium) and I agree that there is a division in the Ukraine between the west and the east what concerns the interests of the population. The west is more European oriented and the east more Russian. I don’t think that an independence movement is in the interest of Ukraine. This country can play an important role between an European and an Russian approach of the western civilisation. So, i’m really appalled about the negative forum here which is quiet without no background about … anything.
In this case… the United States has to be in restrained and let this probelm solved by the European Community.

    Feb 28, 2014 28:35 PM

I agree with what your saying Bob. Obama, every single day, shows his total lack of foreign policy experience. The fact that Kerry is our Sect. of State just proves it. We need to be very careful though. If Russia does go into eastern Ukraine and seize it then the EU may counter by moving troops into the pro-west western Ukraine and since the USA is part of NATO that might force us to act to back up the EU. Similar to what happened to the European nations at the start of WW1 and that could lead to WW3
