It seems to me, that we have not discovered a “system” that works well for most people.
Plato writes about wherever people go they destroy the environment, so this discussion has been going on for some time.

With capitalism, profit is the priority, as we see today, the result (if we continue) will be a dead planet. So, even tho there are benefits, ultimately we all suffer from it.

At this point, the only “system” I see actually working are those our aboriginal peoples lived under.

Obviously were not going back there, so, we have to find one that does work.

Anybody ever hear a story of a white guy asking a native chief what he thought of life now compared to how it was prior to white men arriving?

He says, before you guys showed up, we hunted and fished all day, partyed at night, sex every evening.
Everybody had free medical care and our food was plentiful and great.

Only a white guy could think he could improve on that.

      May 10, 2014 10:42 AM

love the last line bb how many ego’s have destroyed a good thing…..its a double edge sword as a race we are never satisfied….nor do we rarely ever admit mistakes at the political level

there are no mirrors in congress only podiums

        May 10, 2014 10:56 PM

        Great observation about the mirrors!

Anyone who wants to know the economic reasons why Socialism MUST fail should google Socialism by Mises pdf or go to http://www.mises.org.

Socialism fails because of market calculation problems–the price system is destroyed. Note Fed actions today

      bb…………..MAN IS MAN……………and that will not change………….

        Good point Mr Chew!

      May 10, 2014 10:53 PM

Great except the comment about medical care!

        bb
        May 10, 2014 10:15 PM

LOL, I figured someone would mention medical care.

Obviously there have been advancements, but there are studies that show that aboriginal methods worked on aboriginal people where “modern” midicine wouldn’t.

        The question is why.
        The conclusion? belief.

I saw staues in Mexico covered in evidence that prayer healed, why? belief

I read a story not sure if it was a “Christian” book or not, about Jesus walking down a road and a woman with lepricy touching his robe, saying “if I can only touch his robe, I will be healed” sure enough, she was healed, Jesus told her “I didn’t heal you, you healed yourself”

If we believe we can or can not do a thing. We are right. Or so Ive heard.

Another point to old or ancient medicines is that we are still learning just how good they were

          May 10, 2014 10:47 PM

          Actually ….

          Luke 8:43-48

          English Standard Version (ESV)

43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians,[a] she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter[b] said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

          May 10, 2014 10:29 PM

You are talking to a guy who swears by Chinese medicine!

Your comment about what Jesus said is absolutely true!

            May 11, 2014 11:07 PM

I took my then 13 year old daughter to Lourdes, France in 2000 when medical science had no fix for her extremely rare and very debilitating brain disorder that adversely affected virtually every mental and bodily function.

Shortly thereafter, she had her first of two mostly successful brain surgeries at Al’s alma mater and then one in Phoenix. She currently is matriculating as a third year student at a very good state college.

I can’t help but believe that the promise contained in Matthew (ask anything in my name) has validity although sometimes He takes his time.

TV ………..Lone Range and Tonto……………, white man in black mask, with a silver bullet……….? Why, did it have to be SILVER?

      May 10, 2014 10:46 AM

      Better yet,,,,Why the mask?

        May 10, 2014 10:51 AM

Where is Machine Gun……….DT………when you need him?

        May 10, 2014 10:00 PM

        You ever met Mr Irish?

          May 10, 2014 10:10 PM

Not yet,,,,,,,,I plan a visit when silver goes up to over $100, I want to buy him a pub to run, so I can set up a business , and declare it as a total loss, and write it off ., and keep all cash as an expense of doing business in a foreign land, and of course the money will not come back to the usa shores……..I want to be like the big corporations which do not bring back their profits……………..but, have all those Political rights………

      May 10, 2014 10:59 PM

He is actually Mr Irish on disguise

      May 10, 2014 10:41 PM

He was obviously part of the silver cult.

      May 10, 2014 10:45 PM

In those days, if you wanted a class hooker you only needed to know the code phrase “hi-ho-Silver”. -cause the smart ones didn’t accept paper, nickel, nor brass.

    May 10, 2014 10:51 AM

The mask was so he wouldn’t be recognised. He was a wanted man. According to the Johny Dep ovie anyway.

      May 10, 2014 10:56 AM

I think the mask……..originally, the mask was worn as you suggested ,not to be recognized,,,but, In the original 1950 version, He was a TEXAS RANGER before the appearance of the mask, and the bad guys were the one’s he was hiding his identity from………………not the good guys.

        May 10, 2014 10:13 PM

The Lone Ranger included the whole “masked man” phenomenon, later with post WWII superheroes. The mask is not to protect them from the good guys, but from the bad guys and those who would seek to stop them and/or control them, like mega-corporations and government. When people do not obey laws, and government turns a blind eye to obeying laws, justice must mask itself when effective…

Think what would happen today if someone stood up to overindulgent police, to corrupt politicians, to overreaching government, to corporate irresponsibility. The law would be called against the do-gooders, not the law-breakers. If only we had people able to withstand corporate power…

I mostly lurk now on this site, but felt that I should share this video.

Controversial best-selling author James Rickards sits down with Hedgeye CEO Keith McCullough to discuss a number of important subjects in this wide ranging interview:

Socialism cannot make everyone equally rich, but it can make everyone equally poor, except for the political class.

      May 10, 2014 10:20 PM

I would guess, depending on how you define poor, you could be correct.

    May 10, 2014 10:54 PM

maybe Im dreaming I dont know….there are so many very intelligent individuals with calls that if they become true we wont recognize the world we all live in….to be honest I dont want to be in a world if $5-10,000 gold as something has gone very wrong

How can so many smart men from Sprott to Ricards be so wrong these past almost 3 years now….when if ever will their common sense calls unfold…or will they continue to be fear mongerers……??

      May 12, 2014 12:39 AM

Your are going to be in a world you do not recognize in a few decades, regardless , if gold goes to $10-50k or not………………..OOTB

    bb
    May 10, 2014 10:16 PM

jj I don’t find Rickards to be wrong, or fearmongering.
He says that rules will just be re written.
I don’t see anything wrong with saying people should have hard assets and cash. about 15% gold I believe. He gives his reasons.

      May 10, 2014 10:08 PM

bb, Rickards has been calling for some very drastic outcomes imo US $ collapse…gold 7-10gs Id say bb we are not going to get gold at those levels without alot of global fear driving the $ alot lower and good alot higher…….if good is $7gs than what will Oil be $250…that effects the world far greater than gold

      May 11, 2014 11:09 AM

I kind of agree with you, but I don’t call them fear mongers. They are simply expressing opinions.

Please remember that absolutely no one is pointing a gun to your head so you have to believe them!

      May 12, 2014 12:41 AM

the RULES…. have already been rewritten………..

    May 11, 2014 11:31 AM

    SOCILAISM ALWAYS WORKS

Socialist are expert at declaring victory in the face of defeat.
To a socialists perception is reality. Regardless of the reality victory is declared.
To say anything but wonderous praise about the state is to engage in a prohibited act of attacking the collective effort.
As Hayek pointed out “Collectivism is slavery!”
In addition Collectivism requires declaring victory in the face of defeat.
Notice how the objective failures of Obamacare are declared rhetorically as victory.
To point out failures is a prohibited act of criticizing the state.
Remember how North Koreans were at risk if they failed to mourn the death of their leader sufficiently.
    Therefore, socialism always works.
And if you think otherwise you are a dissident.

Big Al and others…lets deal with what we do know since the highs gold made almost 3 years ago. Marty has had the most accurate call off those highs suggesting gold had its amazing 10-11 year bull and ut was time for a well deserved pause….golds down 30% yet the Dow of which Marty has suggested would see global capital flows has gained 60%

All the gold and silver gurus have been bottom calling incorrectly during this correction. If they guy who has been correct continues to do so a massive wave of Deflation is about to
unfold with increased taxation around the world being a major driver.

Marty is looking for continued capital to flow into US equities and a much higher US$….golds
time will come but for now all we’ve seen has been the occasional short covering pops

FWIW…I will continue to follow who has called the action these past couple years correctly vs
the always buy side analyst…gold silver procliamed experts and the key direction the charts
signal as key support and resistance are tested.

    FWIW….

      You got it right, ojj.

    May 11, 2014 11:40 AM

Yes friends socialism [and to some extent] capitalism dont work. on another topic I am glad Monica Lewinsky has a book out and is in vanity fair. She deserves to make 1 million on the book since almost nobody will hire her. I would hire her if i had a business , she is much smarter now. Hillary used her badly as well as bill. I will never vote for Hillary or another Bush. lots of other people can be president –etc. best to you all S

      May 11, 2014 11:35 PM

Personally, I wish Pat Paulsen was still around so I could vote for him.

        May 11, 2014 11:08 PM

Now that is a great choice!

        May 11, 2014 11:00 PM

Don Knotts would be my choice…………..

A piece of a Paul Craig Roberts article posted on silver Doc.
Thought it might fit in this thread.

Capitalism has been transformed by powerful private interests whose control over governments, courts, and regulatory agencies has turned capitalism into a looting mechanism. Wall Street no longer performs any positive function. Wall Street is a looting mechanism, a deadweight loss to society. Wall Street makes profits by front-running trades with fast computers, by selling fraudulent financial instruments that it is betting against as investment grade securities, by leveraging equity to unprecedented heights, making bets that cannot be covered, and by rigging all commodity markets

Off Topic: This one’s for you Franky…..

    Buried in AP News:
Radiation released into the atmosphere by the Fukushima, Japan nuclear accident has begun taking a human toll via newborn babies. A cluster of severe genetic birth defects, 4 times the national average, has emerged in a 3 county area around Yakima, Washington on the US west coast. Local Doctors are “stunned” and cannot find a reason for cluster of deformed babies; others know it is from Fukushima Radiation which saturated Washington in March, 2011.
