Destroying Confidence – the Last 40 Years

Big Al
July 11, 2014

Summary:

  • The US government spends more than it collects in revenues, so debt increases.  The money supply increases similarly and consequently consumer prices increase.
  • Wages increase more slowly than taxes and consumer prices.  Throw in several stock market crashes, a housing crash, add in a few million home foreclosures, flaunt price fixing and market manipulations, massive banker bonuses, numerous political scandals, and eventually people lose confidence in the system.  That loss of confidence equates to dissatisfaction with congress and the administration.
  • The process is probably similar in the UK, the EU, and Japan.

What to Expect:

  1. Expect more spending, debt, wars, and price inflation.  The middle class will continue shrinking.
  1. Expect higher food and energy costs, a devalued dollar, and less confidence in governments and paper currencies.
  1. Expect more stock market crashes, corrections, booms, and blow-offs.
  1. Expect more “happy-talk” from politicians and financial TV while most of the US, Europe and Japan suffers through what appears to be an on-going depression.  Crushing deflation, hyperinflation, and currency collapse are possible – perhaps inevitable.
  1. Expect long-term economic safety with gold and silver, perhaps ONLY with gold and silver.

The coming financial collapse in 2015, similar to CDOs in 2008, but this time it’s corporates.

      Jul 11, 2014 11:34 PM

      CFS,

When you say the coming financial collapse, what do you mean? Are you referring to the problem with the massive amount of derivatives that the major banks have? Will banks cease to exist and everyone who has money in the banks will loss it? Will the dollar become worthless? Will virtually all employers go out of business? After all, businesses will not have money to pay employees or by product since they do not have gold, just money in the bank and I guess soon to be worthless credit. I heard PM bugs say that they will be able to take their 90% silver to the grocery store and buy food with it. How? Supermarkets will not have food to sell. They have no gold to pay for it. I do not get how people think gold and silver will save them under some of the scenarios that I heard.

So if you or someone else would be kind enough to give me just a brief summary of what you expect I would appreciate it.

All great questions JMiller. I cannot answer for CFS but I will relate an anecdote for fun. During the last bubble spike in silver during the early 1980’s I was unable to spend Canadian silver coins despite the fact they were legal tender and had denominations written on their face (Olympic 5 and 10 dollar silver coins). It was also in spite of the fact that virtually everyone knew what silver was worth because silver and gold were daily news stories in the press. That did not impress merchants who still refused to hand over beer or cigarettes in exchange. I kind of suspect things have not changed that much since then. Fact is you could not even spend old silver coins here in Africa where there is constant doubt about paper currencies due to high persistent inflation. It is therefore highly improbable that precious metals will circulate as currency again in our lifetimes. We are going cashless anyway. There is no room for the ideas of the past to reemerge.

          Jul 11, 2014 11:08 PM

I don’t agree and the theme is always consistently negative for precious metals.

Maybe CFS will conclude that there is a future for precious metals.

I strongly advocate maintaining precious metals in all forms including equites.

Precious metals are highly liquid and can be traded or sold almost immediately.

IMVHO…..also precious metals are still on a very major buy signal for especially
          long term.

            Jul 11, 2014 11:36 PM

I agree with both Bird & Heavy.
Precious metals are a store of personal wealth, I’m glad we all here have some.
I also believe the general public (vast majority of the population) have no interest in them…yet.
Many times I’ve asked tradesmen for discounts for their services if I paid cash or cash equivalent to keep everything off the books (tax free)…they nearly always agree.

Never…ever…have they agreed to be paid in silver or gold fractionals.
But if I open up the shed & point to the cases of Whiskey, Vodka, Rum & Red/White wines I stockpile…well they can’t shake my hand fast enough to seal the deal !
I’ve personally also made small payments fairly easy with the promise of weekly fresh eggs from the chooks for a time…especially if I throw in a box of whatever fresh vegetables we have growing at the moment.
I love precious metals, I have no doubt they will help to protect me financially in the future too.
…..but I’ve personally had no-one willing to take them as barter….will that change in the future ? I can’t answer that ?…yet.
I only suggest that people also look to stockpile items that others will barter for.
Alcohol might be a reasonable choice ?..based purely on my previous experience.

Don’t keep all your eggs in the one basket as they say.
            Have a great weekend.
            Cheers.

            Jul 11, 2014 11:12 PM

Skeeta, very well said and yes, precious metals should
be maintained in everyone’s portfolio. My opinion but
I would go so far as being the cornerstone.

I don’t agree with having a good weekend or if I do have too
many eggs I believe the more golden the better.

Once again, my opinion. However, I relate and do agree with
all your statements. Cheers mate !!!!!

            Jul 12, 2014 12:13 AM

            Yes Heavy,
            You said a cornerstone,
I believe they should be a foundation for everyone.
But you shouldn’t build an entire skyscraper with them imo just in case things don’t go as some people plan…& who knows how this will eventually work out for sure ? Or when ?
Having some other forms of barter, be it a skill set (a needed trade), food, booze or cigarettes may well be beneficial also.
It doesn’t hurt to have a few other alternatives up your sleeve…just in case.
            Cheers

            Jul 12, 2014 12:31 AM

Absolutely Skeeta. Just depends how comfortable someone
is with all their major assets in precious metals. Is it wise, it
might very well be. I am extremely bullish on the metals. I do
plan on making fortunes in this market. Nonetheless its not a
100 percent. Nothing is. My opinion the odds are spectacular
and just love the manipulation because the opportunity would
            not exist.

Furthermore, toiletries and all necessities for daily living should
not be over looked. Briefly. However one example personally I ran
out of Q Tips and was out for several days was unable to fully extract
deposits in my canals and almost ended up in emergency for a horrible
            ear ache developing.

The smallest of and items that we take for granted I believe should be
stock piling incl. Vitamin supplements and prescriptions add to that list.
            Antibiotics are extremely important.

Just incase the going really gets tough a nice back pack. Maybe throw a few
New Castles in there. Eases the pain a little.

Oh, don’t forget to pack the smokes and some fire with it. There is no party
without it. Enjoy your weekend Skeeta…..and CHEERS !!!!!!!!

            Jul 12, 2014 12:57 PM

            What are New Castles ?
            Are they a beer ?

            Jul 12, 2014 12:34 PM

            Yes Skeeta….Scotland brew….

            Salute !!!!! ; )

            Jul 12, 2014 12:00 PM

OK thanks for the explanation Heavy.
            I’ve never seen or drunk them…are they a Lager ? A Draught ? What ?
I’m currently weeding the front yard & drinking a brew or two 🙂

Google…. Carlton Draught big ad…for the video of what I’m putting down.

…admittedly the ad’s are better than the beer !
            Cheers !

            Jul 13, 2014 13:00 AM

            Hey Skeeta

Its actually a dark lager mate. Good on ya and
keep up the cheerful attitude. Those ads. Can’t
believe in everything we see in print and hear.
As long as its close to the claims….enjoy.

Catch ya on the rebound. To early to Salute but…
            CHEERS !!!!! Happy Sunday

Bird, right about silver coins marked $5 etc. You can not exchange them for bills or deposit them at banks iether.
I have thought that to be a real deception from our government.
In any case, your probly right about gold/silver being only barter at best without dealers.
Might be able to trade with The Indian population tho? Maybe.
