Re Ukraine: NATO and the West opt for deep suspicion over the 280 truck convoy of humanitarian aid being sent from Russia to the east of Ukraine, arguing it’s a Trojan horse, from which Moscow might emerge to intervene militarily. Furthermore in some quarters the sending of food, water and other provisions is deemed to be aiding the pro Russian war effort.
So given the west’s hair-trigger paranoia, it’s small wonder that Putin needs to tread carefully. One false step……..

      Yeah, he does.

Lindsey Graham entreats his President to blow up Iraq and Syria before the whole U.S. ‘goes up in flames’. See Russell Brand under Keiser report:

That’s right, ‘Rev. And for you lot there in the UK, well, the entire Syrian Air Force should be approaching the White Cliffs of Dover any minute with each DC-3 ( all four of them ) carrying 5,000,000 of Syria’s best paratroopers, armed to the teeth. I tell ‘ya…. where’s Churchill when ‘ya really, REALLY need him?

        Point fully taken ManAbout.

Andrew & MAD…..For what it worth I believe those trucks contain exactly what it says on the label….this can only be GOOD for Putin’s standing …right now the man is acting as the victim of the bully…….& we all know whose side the people take in a situation like that.

            Aug 12, 2014 12:48 AM

Totally agree Tony. Putin behaving with dignified restraint. Best, A

I believe that the four of you are correct!

Even the PBS news hour tonight had to point out that if Poroshenko tries to stop this help, he’ll be the bad guy…if Putin is able to get humanitarian aid to those people Poroshenko has been killing/driving from their homes, Putin will be the hero.
So — and I hope I am proven wrong — I fear some kind of incident that leads further to war.
This present time is much like August of 1939, as I wrote this week:

            Sad but true Chris!

I think we are over estimating the importance of geopolitical events and under estimating the fact that $1100, or thereabouts, is the break-even point for most of the major producers, so I’d argue that it is weighted more as simple as supply issue than folks running to safety due to Ukraine, ebola Obama, or whatever is the scare story of the day.

      Thanks Mark,

My opinion? I think that they are all playing into this game!

      Aug 12, 2014 12:21 PM

I heard producers like to make a profit. 1100 price only allows majors to stay operating, for a while. It does not pay back investment, equipment upgrade and invest. Should the higher cost producer close down?
