“Makes ya proud to be ‘Merican, don’t it?” as Bushie would say.
Eddie,
I am proud to be an American. Why? Because for my entire life I have been able to say and do what I want.
I grew up the only child of immigrants in a two bedroom apartment and today, as I am addressing these comments, I can look out my front window at the sixteenth green of a great golf course.
Yes there are elements of our society that I strongly disagree with and I have made a lot of mistakes but tell me where else could we have this type of discourse.
By the way, you folks are all great! Even you Franky.
One does not have to be a Bush fan to be totally opposed to virtually everything that Dear Leader is doing to this country in a deliberate attempt to bring us down on our knees..
Fair enough, Dai
Bush, Obama, Klinton…makes no nevermind…the same criminals from different wings of the wicked bird of prey.
Everyone’s entitled to his/her opinion.
I am not sure that is an accurate comment on our total society. Sorry

Thanks…really like commodity tv
Cool. I have never seen that show before. Great analysis on gold btw. It is going to retest 1200 (and almost certainly lower) which has been my prognosis for some time now. I realize some here want it to bottom at 1220 this week but even if it does temporarily it won’t hold.
I guess that I not looking like much of an expert right now. But I am still sticking to my guns!
Al, don’t let it bother you. Remember at the first of the year I was calling for a reversal in the dollar / euro trade. Well that squashed me because even though I was correct it was coming I was still too early. So I think you are also right….just a little early is all.
So after watching the show I turned back to Commodity TV to have a look at what else they are talking about. And would you not know it, one of the most popular recent segments was on Allana Potash out of Canada.
Allana, for those not familiar, is developing a Potash mine in Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression which is at one of the lowest and hottest elevations on the planet. The project is expected to become operational in 2016 and is probably worth knowing about because it is an important local story for the region.
Potash production in east Africa is well supported by the Ethiopian Government who are building a rail link (funded by China) to the Danakil for the eventual transport of ores out to Djibouti and onward to India and China.
This is actually a great story for a country that is so populous and reliant on agriculture and where the discoveries of both Potash and Gas will support the creation of fertilizer production for domestic use and export.
I think its a company to keep an eye on. (Just my opinion of course). Here is the video.

Thanks Bird.
Ask Cory if maybe he wants to take a closer look at this, Al. I honestly think this could lead to a very good outcome over the next few years. The company has a great narrative and tremendous support from a variety of places.
The Ethiopian government is very anxious to see this project succeed so there is wind at Allana’s backs. An Israeli company with interests in Dead Sea Potash (Israeli Chemicals – ICL) is involved and Liberty is a shareholder.
What is unusual is that Allana had garnered the support of the World Bank via the IFC (International Finance Corp) on the development of this mine and to bring it to fruition. I think that is still in the proposal stage though but I need to dig deeper to find out if they did in fact make a contribution. I am a little out of date here on this right now.
As I understand it though, this is the only instance where the IFC has come out directly with support on a mineral / mining project but they are interested because of the critical importance of Potash to the Ethiopian economy and its future prospects where social sustainability / agriculture were concerned.
Population growth here is still quite high and at 90 million plus people makes Ethiopia the second most populous country in Africa. There is not yet a large productive Potash mine in the Afar Region of course but the project is going forward step by step and it is the belief it’s realization is just a matter of time and funding.
Allana plans on an open pit after removing the overburden which is not deep. In some places the Potash comes right to the surface so it will be one of the cheapest pits to operate amongst its peers and ready markets are nearby and waiting.
Personally, I give this company two great big thumbs up (I am an optimist) and I have high expectations for the future. But anyone who takes an interest will need to be fairly patient as there are still hurdles to overcome This one is going into my portfolio at current low prices and it is a buy and hold for me which is a vote of confidence in the company, its major financial backers and the Ethiopian government.
The economy is still booming over here Al. While the rest of the globe withers under the burdens of debt and instability, Ethiopia is still amongst the top growth stories in the world.

Al, maybe one day you will consider getting Allana’s CEO on the show to talk about the dynamics of their project and the wider goals. His company really belongs in the category of investing with a social conscience. So this is a story about a company that is involved in bringing forward an essential project in the development of Ethiopian agriculture and making a big difference to the lives of people in one of the worlds poorest countries. Its a very big deal in my books and I happen to think the companies success is assured especially given the commitment of funding for a new rail link by the Chinese. That rail line to Djibouti Port is progressing quickly by the way so this is not a maybe or might-happen or far-off-idea. It is here and now as they are laying track bed and building bridges as we speak. Allana is now involved in a “Potash for Growth” program that is designed to open the way for the advent of widespread fertilization in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector with hopes that the country can achieve self sufficiency in food production. They get a gold star for that effort and I would love to hear more from CEO Farhad Abasov on the subject. You know, the real goldmines sometimes don’t even dig for precious metals!

It is amazing the vast amount of opportunities this country provides in spite of the increasing amount of government hurdles that exist.
Can you imagine what it would be like if the hurdles were removed.
