If you happen to believe the commandment to “love your neighbor”, the Pope is unfortunately correct.

Pope Says Christmas Will Be ‘A Charade’ Because ‘Whole World Is At War’

Pope Francis has declared in a sermon that Christmas this year will be a “charade” because “the whole world is at war”.

The pontiff’s speech at the Vatican came after terrorist attacks in France claimed the lives of 129 people; a Russian plane was bombed and dozens of people were killed in a double suicide attack in Lebanon.

Speaking during Mass at the Casa Santa Maria, he said: “We are close to Christmas. There will be lights, there will be parties, bright trees, even Nativity scenes – all decked out – while the world continues to wage war.

“It’s all a charade. The world has not understood the way of peace. The whole world is at war.

“A war can be justified, so to speak, with many, many reasons, but when all the world as it is today, at war, piecemeal though that war may be – a little here, a little there – there is no justification.”

The sermon cast a serious note on the beginning of the festive season at the Vatican where a giant Christmas tree was unveiled – set to be decorated by December 8 – the start of the the Vatican’s Holy Year.

Pope Francis also spoke of the “innocent victims” of war and also condemned arms dealers for their role in world conflicts.

“What shall remain in the wake of this war, in the midst of which we are living now?” he asked. “What shall remain? Ruins, thousands of children without education, so many innocent victims, and lots of money in the pockets of arms dealers.

“We should ask for the grace to weep for this world, which does not recognise the path to peace,” he said. To weep for those who live for war and have the cynicism to deny it,” he added. “God weeps, Jesus weeps”.

I would have to add that if the Pope’s comment and the opinion of the free world begins to galvanize resulting in action this could actually be a blessing in disguise- Big Al

            Mark Alan says:

Sounds like you need to listen to your own advice, Matthew.

First off, if you feel making slanders and insults is necessary as part of communication, then perhaps you need to return to school and learn some manners and drop your arrogant bull crap. I asked you for specifics in the Pope’s encyclical and all you did was dodge it by utilizing a “broad brush” remark. Don’t insult my intelligence simply because I highly questioned your response regarding the Pope. I’m afraid you are the one who needs to be set straight in something and its’ called “truth”. I’m NOT hear to argue about WHAT economic system is correct or not, what I am arguing about is the garbage bull crap that you posted and simply accepted the articles as containing a truth of what the Pope said.

First, you just said you’re “not a fan of Limbaugh” yet almost every article you posted repeats THE VERY SAME THING as Limbaugh did and even uses some of THE VERY SAME QUOTES. And when the very document that you claim to have read, doesn’t even come close to saying or promoting what your articles all claimed the Pope said, it demonstrates that someone didn’t do their due diligence and simply accepted as “fact” what the authors had to say. Gee! I find it strange how many on this forum love to call the “uninformed” masses “stupid sheeple” or “parrots”, yet you, yourself parrot articles that have been proved to misrepresent what Francis said. So exactly how is that trustworthy and reliable, Matthew? Last time I went to school, falsely making claims about what someone said is called a “lie” and it looks like the authors of your articles never even bothered to do their research. Even your attempts at bringing in “Catholics” in order to lend some support to your claims and make it appear that the Pope is “way off” doesn’t cut the mustard, Matthew. Those Catholics, demonstrate they didn’t even read the encyclical and simply accepted what some other “far right” or “far left” reporter had to say. Also, Tom Woods and Judge Napolitano do not represent the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Faith.

Secondly, your first article contained nothing but mere assumptions and “blanket” diagrams and statements of what the Pope and Marx allegedly agree upon, yet very little within those “Top Ten” even come close to what many Christian theologies/philosophies teach and practice. Some of them actually fit more within the Eastern philosophies and faiths. So, I’m suppose to rely upon the authors ignorance, laziness in research, as accept as “fact” and “truth” that what he claims about Pope Francis is correct? Oh My! I guess arrogance is far more important than reason.

And “no”, what the Pope is advocating is NOT wrong, it makes a lot of sense in light of many Christian faiths. No one has the absolute answer to solve the worlds economic problems because it goes FAR BEYOND simple economics.

Slanderous Mark? I think it was justified after Agatha’s condescending “stay sane” remark.

As for Limbaugh, blah, blah, blah, he simply happened to correctly identify the situation. If Obama had done the same, it would not change my view of the facts.

Sheeple are sheeple for their blindness not for quoting others. Btw, I never used the word “parrot.” You made that up to bolster a feeble argument. Seems a bit slanderous to me.

Aside from the views expressed in those articles, my opinion would be the same. The pope’s language was quite clear.

            Matthew

First of all I’ll apologize for my harsh criticism of your posts, however that does not justify you including me regarding Agatha’s comments. It also does not change the FACT that you posted reports that demonstrated false evidence and claim they are telling the truth of the story regarding your perception of things. Sorry, but again, I feel you demonstrated a rather hypocritical behavior.

Did you even notice the majority of your articles (besides Tom Woods) didn’t list a resource for the alleged Pope Francis statements? Do you notice that the articles were mostly opinion pieces based upon what each person “thinks’ the Pope is saying? Did you happen to notice that both Judge Napolitano and Tom Woods are “traditionalist” Catholics? Are you aware of the “differing” non-dogmatic beliefs between certain groups of traditionalist versus the standard Catholic Teachings? No, you probably never researched that. Your comment also demonstrates you can’t read because I NEVER SAID YOU called anyone a “parrot”. I wonder now who is attempting to bolster a feeble argument.

You state:”Sheeple are sheeple for their blindness not for quoting others. Btw, I never used the word “parrot.” You made that up to bolster a feeble argument. Seems a bit slanderous to me. LOL!” Oh so NOW YOU DEFINE what a “sheeple” is so that it can’t make you look like a hypocrit, is that it, Matthew? Your statement proves your contradiction when it mentions the word “blindness”. I showed you never even bothered to research facts but blindly accepted what your first article had to say in regards to Christian beliefs. That’s NO DIFFERENT that being “blind” because you blindly accepted the “authority” of the authors statement.

” Aside from the views expressed in those articles, my opinion would be the same. The pope’s language was quite clear.” Based upon which definitions used, Matthew? Yours, or those that the Church has established when writing encyclical documents? Did you even bother to read the document in light of what the Church teaches to understand what the language means? Probably not because you’ve already expressed a bias for facts. Interesting thing too is that several other Catholics like Dr. David Anders, Jimmy Akin and Dr. Peter Kreeft, who are all theologians like Tom Woods, believe Austrian economics is a superior economic philosophy to follow, yet not one of them believes the Popes encyclical is Marxist, nor do I.

Oh, and “yes”, stupid people are horrifying but so are those who intentionally misrepresent facts in order to attack and condemn another’s ideology.

JIM it is all smoke and mirrors these days. Just today I have declined as a pensioned cleric to complete a CRB (criminal records) check – a requirement of all clergy be they retired or in full time ministry and something undertaken every 3 years. Although in theory this looks commendable enough, it’s a demeaning farce – pure tokenism whereby the serious paedophile priest will carry on fooling the system regardless. By my refusal to partake in this process I debar myself from taking services in church (something I no longer do anyway). But if other retired clergy adopted a similar stance and said No to CRB checks treating them as a neo-Orwellian and expensive diversion, the Church of England would all but grind to a halt. But no, the sheeple blindly acquiesce while we further sell our freedoms under the banner of political correctness.

You make it sound that when someone decides to study Austrian economics they suddenly become enlightened and know the solution to all the worlds problems. In other words, they make themselves out as knowledgeable “elitist” among the economic circles. There are others who would argue Austrian economics is wrong and is lacking, to which I am interested in hearing their opinions as well.

            Matthew,

So, I guess that means I’m “enlightened” since I’ve been reading about Austrian economics off and on for the last two years. I’m NOT disagreeing with your statements regarding the effects of Socialism, NOR IS THE CHURCH. I’M TALKING ABOUT MISREPRESENTATION of what someone else is saying. I’M NOT ADVOCATING the Catholic Church, or ANY Church has the knowledge and true understandings of economics. That’s NOT their line of work. That should be left up to those who study such fields and relying upon history.

Marxism has been a MAJOR enemy of mankind and an extreme antagonist towards any religious philosophy. To claim that the Pope is advocating for something that is so horrible, is either a gross misunderstanding, or simply a desire to willfully not want clarity. Sorry, Matthew, I know you have your beliefs but I honestly think you are simply taking for granted what you think something or someone says. The Pope is advocating for the world to come together and work on resolving economic issues. Presenting the concept of Austrian economics to him is what some Catholics are attempting to do. Pope Francis even admits he is not an economists and wants criticism from this area because he desires to know what is best. But to claim he is a “Marxist” because you simply want to view his words through your perception is a bid unfair. I’m going to agree to disagree with your opinion.

This makes him no worse than his predecessor, and indeed no worse than most economists. The problem with neoliberalism is the “neo,” not the liberalism: central banks, fiat money, and supranational institutions managing the economy are not the free market, and confusing the two can lead to a great deal of faulty economic and moral analysis.”

Few can argue with his overall comments on compassion and love. It’s impossible for him to make all of the Church’s sins right. He should only be held accountable for his part in its history. No different than we who will sit down to a bountiful dinner and claim Thanksgiving came to us from a Puritan beginning that meant nothing but good, while the facts are they slaughtered the native population and burned not a few women in their midst as witches. How about we all simply pray that our actions tomorrow and forward don’t add to the demented situations that abound in our world. A Happy Thanksgiving to all.

      Excelsior says:

Yep…..quite a thread. It has more comments than any of the blogs from Tuesday that actually dealt with resource investing (the point of this site) for 3 reasons:

      1) People just love to argue about things like politics and religion, but nobody ever convinces anyone to think a different way….they just fight or dismiss. (the fight or flight response)

      2) These are very emotional topics and deep seated belief systems that people can’t help but react to, and then logic & manners go right out the window. If people really lock horns then it usually goes downhill from there with accusations, name calling, and nasty exchanges. (I’m pretty positive it doesn’t help anyone become a better resource investor either)

      3) Most people don’t have many stock ideas, trading strategies, investment trends, or research to offer, and just want to debate the most controversial charged topics.

It would be the same if this was a cooking blog. Most people probably wouldn’t share many recipes, tips, or tools of the trade….and probably will just go out to eat. However, if a good ole’ fashioned political or religious or moral opinion topic surfaced……Yee-haw! then the people come out of the woodwork with their amazing opinions. (it’s exhausting)

It is a futile effort to prognosticate to people on a blog for a few minutes your opinion, and think it will achieve anything worthwhile. It flies in the face of a lifetime of the other party’s conditioned and repetitively ingrained view of the world, so it is like talking to a brick wall or and enraged lunatic.

*This is why I mentioned a number of times earlier in the year that EVERY TIME people get on a religious or overly political debate on here, (or any blog for that matter), it gest waaaayyyy off in left field, off topic, and all the neuroses, conditioned belief systems, and “team this…” or “team that…..” philosophy or opinion comes out of the woodwork. Then the opposing team has to voice their opinion to defend their belief system, and usually already has their feathers ruffled due to someone else’s point of view. Hundreds of comments later, everyone is thoroughly pissed off with one another, and some get their panties in a wad and leave. (wow, what a community builder and family atmosphere that creates)

People cling to their inherited and conditioned belief systems which have been entered on the keyboard of their conscious mind by their parents, teachers, preachers, peers, and community starting at birth. It is very difficult for people to break free of this conditioned view of the world and truly have original thoughts on the matter. Typically it takes an extreme event (major illness, death of a loved one, near death experience, dramatic moment of realization triggered by a catalyst strong enough to snap them out of it….)

If someone is fortunate enough to have some event in their life that causes someone to finally start questioning the world around them, break free of their conditioned belief system with (Team this or Team that), and get a truly unbiased and balanced approach, then real seeking and learning can start to take hold.

It is unlikely such an experience will transpire on a resource investing blog, so why even go there?

Still it was a very nice move the last few days, and encouraging that the miners are showing strength.

          Excelsior says:

No fault to be placed and no need to apologize Mark Alan. This is just a pattern that develops each time any group of people get into a discussion about topics that other people feel very passionately about.

In particular Political topics like refugees, Israel/Palestine, the Middle east, or Moral debates like abortion/planned parenthood/gay marriage, or Religious debates of most stripes will cause quite an uproar in most blogs or in-person discussions.

These are charged topics, people feel very strongly, and often the conversation breaks down in unresolved differences. They are also really personal topics, and people get easily offended and judge others unrelated information because of their views. In my experience these charged topics usually do much more to divide people along their ideological differences, than uniting them along common ground.

We used to host marketing seminars with 30-400 people in a room each weekend, and we asked the speakers not to go too extreme in political or religious opinions or controversial topics from the stage for just these reasons. We were there for marketing concepts, not a sermon or political platform, and if people got miffed due to an off-color comment, they often dismissed the rest of the great information presented.

Of course, speakers would get up and remark how unashamed they were for their beliefs and would air them publicly anyway, and then certain members wouldn’t come back anymore. It was sad, because often the speaker had many great points, but isolated 25-50% of their audience by going a little too deep in their belief….which is still just their opinion (no matter how right they thought they were or how driven by spirit to testify that they were).

Now if people wanted to go out for a cup of coffee or a beer afterwards with the speaker and discuss things outside of a public forum, then sure, but you still had to be considerate even in a more intimate environment. In a public format with a theme like marketing (or in this case Resource Investing) it is not a great avenue to debate religion / politics / and what one person sees as moral or immoral. There are specialty niche websites, groups, and clubs for doing just that already that cater to exactly these kinds of discussions. (They still have plenty of arguing too btw 🙂

I’m all for people saying what they want and freedom of speech and expression, but there is also manners, tact, and good decorum. This is Big Al & Cory’s site and they will moderate things as they see fit, and since it is their private site they can censor comments or block users if they want to, and no it doesn’t infringe on your federal rights to free speech, because it their business. For people that want to wail and rail about their right to discuss anything anywhere, please remember that. If it really was truly freedom of expression on this site, the we’d still have Franky/Xiang Xang, Heavy Hitter, and James the Lesser posting their free expression. The reason we don’t see them posting is because people were offended, complained, and they did not exercise good manners or decorum towards the other posters (or people just didn’t like their message because they disagreed with it philosophically – which is where the real anger came from).

It has been discussed many times in the past on this site that these kinds of discussions, while having good intent at the onset, lead to countless debates & arguments that may deter new & old visitors that come here for an interest in investing in the resource sector and broader market commentary. There has always been a political component (but that is where many of the arguments tend to break out), but when kept at a macro level and tied in to how it may affect the markets, it is still relevant and not so controversial or offensive.

I’m sure people will continue to fight and argue, and continue to beat on their chests that their view is the best or right or divine…..but they are all just opinions, and they’ll usually cause an argument with a co-worker, family member, or group of people. Why anyone thinks they can convert people on-line on a blog to a new way of thinking or justify their moral/political/religious pride is beyond me.

To each their own I guess…..

Sure Al. But I have a question for you too, Why did you even allow him to start posting again? What possessed you to welcome him back? Last time this happened you let it carry on for months until the site became utter chaos. Would it really seem a surprise to you that anyone here (myself for example) would lose their temper about a troll being allowed to start posting the same kind of provocations and personal garbage material that started the problem in the first place?

Al, I don’t want to be drawn into name-calling. But I agree HH does goes off on tangents that for most on this site make little or no sense. I’ve always made my differences known to him on that score. However he’s shone a laser in a certain direction that too many people (openly or tacitly) would agree with. Birdman alias listener or whoever he is has, when he’s not making interesting if not informed comments caused enormous offense over the three years that he’s been posting.

Shad drew our attention to this some weeks back with an extensive list of Bird’s obscenities and/or where he’s shown utter contempt for other people’s opinions. In my opinion this is unlikely to stop, even if listener reigns himself in for a while.
Whilst I’m sure you’ve not made yourself look foolish by virtue of your ever-gracious manner towards one and all, I hope none of us look foolish by cutting BM slack while banishing HH. Because for all his eccentricities (as I would see them) I regard

HH as a friend and don’t care who knows it. On an earlier occasion I asked you to call back HH which you did and which, to my mind is fine by me if he is allowed to return. After all Birdman/Listener has yet to suffer such an ignominy.

Sorry Al, I don’t have the time, energy, patience or interest in fending off hourly attacks from obvious trolls who come to your site and are never dealt with. It was your choice to allow HH to start posting here again and in effect you are showing disrespect for all the people who do post seriously and regularly on the daily topics.

I sometimes wonder if you even read the garbage that he spews. Virtually every single post is bile launched against one person or another and NONE of it is ever on topic. Here is a perfect example:

HH is a troll. You kicked him off once already and now you let him back in. That’s where I draw the line because your word is no good anymore and I am sure as hell not putting up with that guy tailing me around every day with bizarre twisted personal attacks.

            I agree with you Listener.

But my thinking is there are too many people into “jesus, god, the bible”, that will continue to support HH and who ever else uses those words.

Just out of interest, Jay Taylor, who we all know, was discussing on his program investing in weopons manufacturing, saying it might be “justified” if profits got used for “good”.

I really like his program but people might understand why Im a little cynical about religions.

HH is here to disrupt, thats obvious, I emailed Al about that kinda bs years ago explaining what I felt would be the inevitable outcome were it allowed to continue.

Well, sure enough. (how well the site was running during his absenece should be example enough for anyone)

At one time I thought a good tactic might be to post versus a person really needs to be mentally challenged to find any validity or value in, but that would only encourage religious discussion.

I think your absolutely right Listener, but its not gonna work. Mathew and supporters will make up for lost posts and Al will be able to continue to show advertisers he has the people to justify the advertising expense.
The quality of content doesnt matter, its just numbers.

I just cannot believe that we can all read the same posts and some people here think that obvious destructive behaviors from trolls is somehow acceptable. Until one of us starts cursing out loud nobody even pays attention. If I were a sponsor and read the kind of shit that HH posts daily I would pull my funding and demand something be done since it makes everybody here look like GD fools. Anyway, I might go over to Gary’s site. There are traders there who post charts and bring insights about the market.

They do a lot more than just idiotically write “Ditto” 10 times a day. This site has turned into rubble as a posting forum and is still infested with agenda driven gold retards. The goofs like Jerry suddenly support free speech but only when it is in their shallow agenda because one trouble poster is attacking another they don’t like. He does not support free speech. He only appreciates that other people are in conflict and he gets to stand by and enjoy the drama without wearing it himself or actually standing up for any real values. None of this was necessary though.

I blame Al and Cory for being insincere about enforcing very basic posting rules. They think it is Christian ethics to turn the other cheek and show tolerance for repeated abuses of the site. Yeah….free speech…..its all OK even when we are being over-run by people intent on destroying what they are doing. So pathetic.
Funny thing is but I am not even mad at HeavyHitter. It is Al and Cory who piss me off because they are so inconsistent and their words are worth zero.

          Excelsior says:

Thanks Big Al. I actually really enjoy discussing spirituality with people of many religious faiths, and like talking with my close friends about political developments or heated topics. However, on a public forum, people just can’t help but broadcast their beliefs, which would be fine if it didn’t cause so many arguments, fights, and hurt feelings almost every time it is brought up.

This is the same thing that happened when people on this site started debated Israeal vs Palestine and Jews versus Zionists. Many people have interesting positions, but it got ugly real fast, and people got upset and offended and quit posting here because of it. Of course, the world has become overly PC and too concerned with offending people and I get that argument not to cave in to that pressure. However, when controversial topics come up that people are very passionate about, then the discussion veers off very quickly from fellow investors sharing ideas and cutting up a little, to a heated argument where people stop treating one another with respect, the name calling begins, and it degrades from there.

It’s the same on any blog really when these charged topics come up. When the issue of race and police profiling comes up in the main stream media, and you read a blog under one of those articles and most of them are people arguing and insulting each other. If you look at a Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton news piece and then read the blog underneath, it quickly erodes from politics to insulting behavior. If you look at an article on immigration on the mainstream media, then the comments underneath in the blog usually go off the rails and it becomes a cesspool of negative comments and poster attacking one another’s beliefs.

There are just plenty of outlets covering those kinds of stories if people want to wade in and have their voice heard, but there are very few outlets for resource investing and good economic discussions. The KER site is unique in the quality of your guests on the weekend shows, the regular commentators Gary, Chris, Rick and Doc, and the group of very savvy and intelligent investors. This is likely why most people are attracted to the site if they find it on Kitco or in searching for info on Gold/Silver/Oil/Currencies/general markets/bonds and macro economics or global political developments that effect the marketplace.

I’ll be a fan of your site whatever topic is covered, but the investment topics or overall macro politics (like Cory’s articles on Emerging Markets) rarely cause much of stir or have wounded feelings after. However, more people do participate in the controversial topics and seem to love the arguments and fighting, so it is clearly more popular than covering topics focused on investing.

Regardless, have a Happy Thanksgiving, and I’m thankful you & Cory have a great site.

Thanks Excelsior, I would guess that there will be no more politics and religion and No more heavy or Listener. Way to much aggravation.

You’re a great man Big Al, and I’m sure whatever direction you and Cory decide to take things will be great. I was just offering up one opinion amongst many, and noted the correlation between the fights and political/moral/religious topics.

As you often mention, there are a number of important political news events going on currently on the global stage. There are a number of great shows you’ve done with Glen Downs, Jeff Deist, and even Chris Temple & Doc that are political in nature that touch on economics, China, Russia, the Middle East, Europe, and N. America that many listeners really love. These topics do apply to the marketplace, to the direction the world is unfolding, and they are relevant and popular editorials.

There are just certain topics that are Pandora’s Box when opened up, and they usually end in blog carnage. While the responses are often entertaining, one has to wonder if they are worth the trade off of running off long-time posters or new posters just so everyone can weigh in on “charged” topic.

Even if you did nothing but cover controversial political stances, moral issues, and specific religious debates, I’ll personally still be a big fan of your site. (As mentioned earlier, I actually love all those topics). The main reason most are here though is your guest commentators unique views on investing.

Cheers and good tidings to your family for the holidays.
