Al and Cory. Best interview EVER!! Rickards is a treasure chest of insight on Global Financial matters. His case for Gold is one of the best I’ve heard. Moreover, his ability to explain the complex innerworkings of Central Banks, Financial Intermediaries , and Government entities is very compelling. Thanks for this enlightening interview!

Jim Rickards is always delightful to listen to. He seems to be one of the rare type of insiders who remain straight thinkers with conscience. Most of the others will try to benefit themselves with connection and side with the power in any occasion.

+1 Agreed Dragonite. That’s how I view Jim as well, and this was a great interview. Thanks Big Al & Cory for having Jim on the show.

I enjoyed some of the similar points he made on Valentin Schmid’s interview, and the Palisade Radio interview, so I recommend watching all 3 videos. They have been a nice refresh of Jim’s thoughts and insights.

Interesting but my guess is he doesn’t make much money off the book.

Check out Tom Woods and his podcasts on book publishing. He has had NY Times best sellers including Meltdown (on the 2008 financial crisis) and the Politically Incorrect Guide to US History.

He says that non-fiction books, even best sellers, do not make much money for the author. (Unless you can get a celebrity like Oprah to endorse your book. I doubt Oprah will endorse Rickard’s book.)

The real money for book authors is in fiction (for example, Harry Potter type books).

The real money for book authors is in fiction (for example, Harry Potter type books).

And then it’s a real long shot. The overwhelming majority of books make very little money for the author.

I highly doubt Rickards wrote the book for the money the book expecting to make a lot of money off its sales.

Ebolan, Did you look up the sales numbers on his previous books, before talking nonsense?

        Apr 02, 2016 02:24 PM

No no. Ebolan. Jim is a bestseller and would have earned a healthy advance for a great title the publisher thought would move. Can’t recall where I read it but I had heard one of his books earned him 3 million. Maybe it was Jim who said so in an interview. My memory is not great on this point. The books were especially popular in China though. They seem to take him pretty seriously over there. Anyway, he has a great career as a writer and is a financial success based partly on his works in print.

          Apr 02, 2016 02:38 PM

Could be but so far no here has provided evidence of how much Rickards has made off his books, either the sales or advances.

          Apr 02, 2016 02:27 PM

BOOK sellers are making a killing ……..like Levi of 1849……

          Apr 03, 2016 03:34 AM

Farmer, the book named Currency War (货币战争)in China was by a different auther, Mr Song Hongbing. Song is a famous economist and his book was several years ahead of Jim’s book with same title.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:15 AM

You kidding? OK that’s pretty funny! I will have to brush up on my Chinese.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:24 AM

            That is funny………same book , same title……………lol

            Apr 03, 2016 03:10 AM

I heard “Currency war” at around 2007. It is such well known book throughout China that it is linked to the author automatically. Mr. Song became famous with that book. He also has other books. At that time, Mr. Rickards did not start his famous book yet. I am sure there are a lot in common but they are different books nevertheless .

            Apr 03, 2016 03:12 AM

In that book Mr. Song asserted the importance of gold. He were advising his followers to buy gold ever before he became a household name.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:22 AM

You saying Rickards got some of his ideas from that book? Wow. That is pretty interesting. So are they basically the same material and the same concepts about gold, currencies and Central Banks?

            Very enlightening. Thanks Dragon.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:23 AM

It is amazing what you learn on this site some days. Really amazing.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:29 AM

Farmer, I did not say Rickards got ideas from Song but they do have similar ideas. The book was in Chinese at beginning and later translated to other languages.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:31 AM

But if Rickards copied Song’s content he would not name his book Currency war. So I think they both have their original ideas.

            Apr 03, 2016 03:33 AM

BTW, if you have google translator, the site I quoted lists the chapters of Song’s book.

Many casualties Ebolan, of whom (if I’d been writing for the money) I’m one. lol!

these all sounds weird. I cannot imagine NTM not selling due to law suit. They can have more law suit or even shut down. Also I thought GLD inventory is going up from the low, isn’t it?

“Unprecedented Leak” Exposes The Criminal Financial Dealings Of Some Of The World’s Wealthiest People

An unprecedented leak of more than 11 million documents, called the “Panama Papers”, has revealed the hidden financial dealings of some of the world’s wealthiest people, as well as 12 current and former world leaders and 128 more politicians and public officials around the world.

More than 200,000 companies, foundations and trusts are contained in the leak of information which came from a little-known but powerful law firm based in Panama called Mossack Fonseca, whose files include the offshore holdings of drug dealers, Mafia members, corrupt politicians and tax evaders – and wrongdoing galore.

    I doubt Jim’s $10k gold call.
But…If so though, how safe would the average person be on the street?
What crook would attempt to rob a local mini mart when it’d be more profitable to go after a few Mothers/Grand Mothers etc as they wandered back to their cars at a local Mall & demand their gold rings/ear rings etc ?
Not the sort of World I’d want to live in….regardless of how much gold I have stashed away.
    Cheers.

Some people ask what Rickards is after. I feel he might be after the fame instead money. How about father of new gold standard? I feel he cares a lot about name. He can make more money by different ways with his connection. On the side, I feel he is sincerely concerned with the current financial system.

    Apr 09, 2016 09:52 PM

Thanks all. Especially the historical stories from Germany and Russia. Old German Jews buying gold. Go figure.
