In a close election, Britain decided to exit the Euro Zone. What does this mean in the short term for investors?

See the 265 comments from last night for opinions.

    No sense rehashing it all

      Jun 24, 2016 24:55 AM

Maybe James, but I have been doing interviews since about 6:30 a.m. and I am really enjoying it.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:24 AM

yes indeed, more comments then a weekend show!!

    Jun 24, 2016 24:18 AM

    Opinions no longer matter!

The people doing the most talking are the ones that got it wrong !

      Jun 24, 2016 24:39 AM

Don’t make me laugh James. You were on both sides in the say day.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:19 AM

    Folks,

    I am exhausted.

I have been up all night – then had my 6 month dental check-up first thing – but I am so happy. Exhausted but very happy.

The reality is that if this vote had been held 5 years from now the British could never have won this vote in our own country. Large parts of London who were pro the EU are areas which are now, to many British, no longer populated by ‘real’ Brits.

Please, please, please USA and Canada – do not let what has happened to the UK to happen to your countries. Do not let your kindness, tolerance and your own democracy to be used against you, as has happened in the UK, to allow the intolerant to dominate and accuse the tolerant amongst you of being racists.

Right, I am going to listen to what Chris is saying.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:28 AM

      Great comment Bob

        Jun 24, 2016 24:32 AM

        Ditto.

One could almost believe their is a Christian God!

After all, it did rain heavily in the London area yesterday and their voting was suppressed.

          Mysterious ways, indeed.

            Jun 24, 2016 24:58 AM

Never a doubt in my mind, Professor.

          Jun 24, 2016 24:56 AM

Andrew, America has only to gain from the vote for Brexit, the influence from the present administration in The White House will not be waited upon or expected. The settlement of foreign policy connected with The EU vote will have to be addressed after November.

            Jun 24, 2016 24:59 AM

            Probably Mr. Tracy.

I will be interested to hear what you think about Rick’s thoughts on this.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:42 AM

True enough Bob. Its a weakness of democratic processes that they allow for the elements of extremism to have a voice and occasionally even take complete control of the levers of power. Hitler was elected was he not?

        Jun 24, 2016 24:50 AM

Yep, and I see no difference between the facism of Hitler and the Nazis and the fascism of Islam.

I believe it to be a danger to all free-thinking, secular enlightened people. If you believe in free speech, equality, the rights of women and the rights of LGBT folks, then Islam is a clear and resent threat.

It is evil and it is long overdue that we were stopped from speaking out against it.

Tolerance is part of the British Psyche. May it ever be so.

            Jun 24, 2016 24:57 AM

When any tolerant, democratic people become tolerant of the intolerant great evil lies ahead.

Eventually that free speech and openness is used by the intolerant to overthrow the tolerant.

            Jun 24, 2016 24:00 AM

Tolerance as long as it is combined with rational and intelligent thought!

          Jun 24, 2016 24:00 AM

Yep, and that was unbelievable to me.

          Jun 24, 2016 24:40 AM

Excellent comment Bob. I could not agree more.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:56 AM

I completely agree with you Bob UK

    Jun 24, 2016 24:48 AM

I have had lots of abuse today, online and in real life from, Remainers. There are vast numbers of politically correct idiots out there.

I had one woman – a uni lecturer with a nice public sector paid job and a nice public sector funded pension… and she is probably home by 4PM each day and has not worked a weekend in her entire life… – tell me that she was angry in us leaving because, wait for this, we should be doing more for the migrants.

This is in South Wales just a few miles from the Welsh Valleys where there is still appalling poverty and joblessness for tens of thousands of Welsh people.

This woman is typical of the politically correct islamic loving anti-Semite, anti-Christian idiots at the top of the Labour Party in the UK. She is happy to be seen as ‘cool’ latching onto the migrant and islamic propaganda but totally ignores really povery by real Brits just a 30 minute car ride away.

When I suggested that British tax-payer’s money would be better spent on British people she got very shirty with me.

When I pointed out the mass rapes of women and girls in Sweden and Germany by migrants she looked as me as if I was the one in the wrong.

When I pointed out that the rights and freedoms of women and girls across Europe are now being curtailed because it is no longer safe for Western women to dress as they wish, go where they want when they want, etc, I was the one who was the monster.

The lack of democracy in the EU totally went over her head.

She simply had no reasoned defence of her Remain position but clearly did not like her smug little world to be challenged. So, guess what she did then? Yep, she used…. the Trump word.

Presumably, in the circles in which she moves, mentioning Trump is, um, a trump card in winning an argument. I merely asked her what on earth Trump had anything to do with the referendum. So, she just told me to F off!

Yep, all this took place in a nice, respectable, middle class Marks & Spencer food hall.

Somehow, somewhere between WW2 and today, large numbers of British people have become opinionated idiots. Worst of all, they all seem to inhabit the public sector and have an easy life, well paid jobs and good pensions but never have to generate any wealth whatsoever.

Thinking seems to be beyond many also.

Stay logical, Bob. It always wins in the end.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:02 AM

Bob UK, I am not surprised as I let go a friend of about 60 years for having that same philosophy.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:49 AM

Can I just say, for one last time, I nailed it…I don’t get it right that often

      Jun 24, 2016 24:53 AM

      Well done.

I wish I had the bottle to follow my gut and go for that gold position. It was too risky though.

I decided that if I missed the PMs that I would get in on a conventional collapse. The thing to do now is, as Chris has pointed out in his commentary, is to time whether today or next week will be the opportunte moment to get into certain conventional stocks.

I am quite surprised that gold is coming back down and will take heed of Chris’s warning.

Then again, we were told that Putin would be in London by lunchtime if the Brits voted for BREXIT 😉

        Jun 24, 2016 24:00 AM

        Well done Nigel

      Jun 24, 2016 24:55 AM

Yes I forgot who got it right Nigel. I’ll heed you with more attention in the future! Best, A

The conventional wisdom could be totally wrong.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:00 AM

When I said above to reread the 265 comments from last night I was not being tongue and cheek.

    So many people were wrong.

So why should anyone listen to them now?

Al, you were on re odd as saying remain would win and things would get back to normal.

    Wrong

Now you are saying this will most likely be a one or two day event and back to normal?

    Excuse me

    How do you know?

    No one does.

You have no idea the impact of this.

People should be quiet and watch.

Too many opinions that are biting the dust.

If you were wrong, and you know who you are, keep silent

      Jun 24, 2016 24:06 AM

I admit that I did call it wrong, James. And, I am so glad that I did. I am beginning to have faith again.

I admit that the banksters have much less power now that I thought and I will start to bet on the common man again.

      Jun 24, 2016 24:47 AM

Get off it James. The entire public in the UK could not decide with unanimity what way to vote and the whole thing came down to a few percent difference. Why should anyone here be sanctioned for not knowing the outcome when we were nothing more than outside observers on another continent to start with!!!!!

      Jun 24, 2016 24:56 AM

Yes James I recall you saying that. Well done too! Best, A

    Jun 24, 2016 24:03 AM

Birdman, don’t go there I was not on both sides in the same day.

    I bet on leave.

Yes I watched dats, bets and results come in and didn’t know which way it would end up but I said twice unequivocally I am betting leave.

    Don’t go there.

I’m in a celebratory mood, let’s get the sausage and rejoice !

      Jun 24, 2016 24:07 AM

James the Greater, I too am in a celebratory mood!

      Jun 24, 2016 24:49 AM

Alright. Just don’t make it Brätwurst today even though I love those things.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:19 AM

To Bob, Jerry, James and everyone on this site and of course big Al, last night was the best fun especially the result, don’t know if we can top it…oh yes there’s an election coming up in November I hear…maybe we can top it

      Jun 24, 2016 24:37 AM

Ditto …..it was a good time!

        Jun 24, 2016 24:59 AM

Wonderful to behold the crestfallen faces of the EU elite and their henchmen and women. O Happy day!

    Jun 24, 2016 24:54 AM

Amazing how the Yen spiked up so far and then gave back 330 pips in just hours. You sure don’t see that very often. It was more than a 700 point vertical move initially and I am thankful I did not make my original bet that it would fall. Whew!!!! Close call.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:53 AM

Glad we didn’t buy DUST yesterday!

    Jun 24, 2016 24:05 AM

Chris and Al, if a state like Texas wanted to secede from the USA would you be supportive of that?

      Jun 25, 2016 25:55 AM

      YES

        Jun 25, 2016 25:22 AM

        Right on Chris!

PF – What does it mean to be united if it’s not voluntary?

        The EU is a dictatorship.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:35 AM

Good comments today, Chris. It does appear that the pendulum has swung in the direction for the people. It looks like the cabal’stards are on the ropes!

    Jun 24, 2016 24:57 AM

Hi ppl! Imho this brexit is the death knell for the eu as a whole. Many countries are fed up with migrants. The eu beurocrats have been dragging their feet way long regarding the immigrants issue. They did it on purpose because every migrant that was let in was a vote in their favor and besides that germany has a demographic problem that has to be solved and the easiest way to do it is to stir trouble in neighbouring countries and then open the frontier like they already did.Their project of creating a euro army is certainly postponed at this stage and put on shelf. This brexit is a black swan for the euro currency. The euro will collapse and trillions upon trillions of dollars in derivatives will be in jeopardy. My forecast now is that the usd will strengthen and commodities will fall.Countries like brazil, south africa, venezuela ,canada and others that depend on commodities will enter into a deep recession and consequently people will be laid off.The fructuring industry in the u.s. will go belly up together with the tbtf banks from which they have borrowed money. This brexit is the beginnging of the end for the e.u.other countries like denmark, sweden, austria, italy and spain will follow suit.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:03 PM

The masses have taken the New Age bait once again. Hook, Line, and Sinker, the people have swallowed the Brexit set up – (AKA – Propaganda – a staged election to provide the masses with a false sense of empowerment).

      Jun 25, 2016 25:58 AM

Good point – diligence will be required to make sure this result is not subsequently thwarted, which the powers that be will no doubt try to do. They have no use for democratic elections when the people don’t do as they are told.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:31 PM

I made some good money on miners and silver today. Lost 15$ on B-exit.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:28 PM

Shell and BP on the FTSE were up quite a bit today maybe due to the fact they report in pounds and the pound dropped. But on the US market they were down sharply.

    Jun 24, 2016 24:31 PM

If Germany is the next to leave there will only be a welfare state left. Greece will need bailouts for the next 40 years and Italy, Portugal and Spain are also weak economies. UK and Germany are both required to keep the lesser states going.
