Why must there always be fighting and killing? Why can’t we have peace in the valley?

    Jul 25, 2016 25:45 PM

    Interesting comments Big Al.
If this is what they got off the DNC’s emails, imagine what they got off Hillary’s server.

    DFS
    Jul 25, 2016 25:03 PM

The most important thing they got off the DNC server was direct communication between persons in the Main Stream Media (even “conservative” media) proving beyond any doubt that most of the Main Street Media is in league with the DNC.
We had pointed this out, but the hack of the DNC PROVES it.
Of course, the MSM is not reporting this!

By “most of the MSM”, I would point out this does include a supposed newspaper of record; The Washington Post.

Cory – regarding the Sprott Natural Resource Symposium.

If there is a way to interview Robert Friedland about Ivanhoe Mines and his outlook on the PGM, Copper, and Zinc sectors, that may be a good interview.

Robert is one of the “living legends” being featured and has decades of experience evaluating the various commodities. He is a good friend and mentor to Rick Rule and always interesting to listen to.

Any other interviews with the other “living legends” like Ross Beatty or individual mining company executives would be great contributions.

    Thanks,

      DFS
      Jul 25, 2016 25:47 PM

I endorse that request. He is a most colorful and knowledgeable character (and billionaire). With three large resources with Ivanhoe, I am most surprised the valuation is so low. Even though the jurisdictions are not great, Mr Friedland is an expert in establishing good relations with officials in countries.

        Jul 25, 2016 25:13 PM

I have a feeling coming out of this conference that Ivanhoe will be on the map in a big way for many investors and the low valuation won’t last much longer.

Regardless Robert is, as you mentioned, “a most colorful and knowledgeable character (and billionaire). ”

        Cheers!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, will be a down day:
    http://www.gold-eagle.com/article/waiting-through-prototypical-cartel-shenanigans-next-inevitable-precious-metals-upleg
But further downward movement is not immediately vital for the commercials after that.
Movement of both precious metals and the general market after Wednesday depends on the comments coming from the FOMC.
Since Yellen is a staunch Democrat the comments will aim to support the general market.
There is no measurable probability of raising interest rates, in my opinion, despite discussions in the financial media. The general stock market as a measure of the economy, despite some reported improvements, appears to be held aloft only by massive money injection.

On a separate note, I wish to point out that the building of Hadrian’s wall in the North of England pretty much marked the beginning of the fall of the Roman Empire. (Of course, things happened more slowly in that era.)
One could speculate whether building of a Mexican wall might be history rhyming for the American Empire.

    Jul 25, 2016 25:01 PM

Grant Williams is one of my favourites. If you can catch him for an interview, I will give you many 👍

      Jul 25, 2016 25:14 PM

Good suggestion Anders. Grant is always lively in an interview.

For those following the Hecla acquistion of Dolly Varden, it is actually as I cautioned earlier this month, and the deal is, in fact, falling apart:

        — > On July 11, 2016 at 9:14 am,
        Excelsior says:

For those following the merger of Dolly Varden with Hecla Mining:

“Apparently Dolly Varden did finally respond to Hecla’s takeover, but this merger seems a bit messier than previously expected. Hecla’s restrictive loan was trying to block Dolly Varden from issuing more shares to finance their exploration efforts, which had them backed into a corner. It is also interesting to note the new land that Hecla bought in May 2016, which surrounds the Dolly Varden land package on 3 sides. Clearly Hecla is going for a larger area play in BC, but the takeover information didn’t clue in DV investors to this larger initiative by Hecla, nor properly value the property in light of this information.”

        * “As a result of this new information and a concern that this merger may blow up; I’m taking my chips off the table, and cashing out with the winnings before the dilutive financing happens in the near future.”

        — > On July 18, 2016 at 10:19 pm,
        Excelsior says:

” I also just sold out of my Dolly Varden on July 11th when they responded to the Hecla takeover offer. In my opinion there could be a few wrinkles there and that deal could blow up.”

Hecla Mining Withdraws Bid for Dolly Varden
        COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho–(BUSINESS WIRE)

“We are disappointed with Dolly Varden’s expensive debt financing followed by its planned dilutive private placement that effectively acts as a poison pill, raising the cost of acquiring Dolly Varden by more than 50%. Despite withdrawing our bid, Hecla will invest to maintain our 15.7% interest in Dolly Varden because of our long term commitment to the Dolly Varden property. We are disappointed that the Securities Commissions’ decisions take away the ability of existing shareholders to choose our premium bid, effectively forcing their continued ownership of Dolly Varden,” said Phillips S. Baker, Jr., Hecla’s President and CEO.”

Hecla Mining Provides Update for Its Dolly Varden Investment
          COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho–(BUSINESS WIRE)

          http://www.juniorminingnetwork.com/junior-miner-news/press-releases/1104-nyse/hl/22776-hecla-mining-provides-update-for-its-dolly-varden-investment.html

            Jul 27, 2016 27:16 AM

Now, despite the dilution in the new loan Dolly Varden took out, Hecla’s decision to remain a key investor has put some wind back in the sails of DV investors.

It had pulled back after the news of he deal going sour, but today shares surged. Possibly some investors that follow the much more liquid household name of Hecla may have just realized what Dolly Varden has going on in the Golden Triangle.

Still, it seems odd that shares would have jumped this much simply the announcement that the merger isn’t happening but Hecla is keeping their shares in place for investment purposes.

        Jul 25, 2016 25:32 PM

Right back atcha V. I always enjoy you well-written commentary.

The Doug Casey reference to the 20% of the 20% is spot on BTW.

We used to teach that concept of the 80-20 Rule in our business seminars, but it really applies to life in general, and is also called the “Pareto principle”

        – You get 80% of the results from 20% of the staff
        – You get 80% of your sales from 20% of your customers
        – You wear 20% of you clothes 80% of the time
        – You walk on 20% of your carpet or hardwood 80% of the time

“It is said that about 20% of sportsmen participate in 80% of big competitions and out of them, 20% win 80% of the awards. ”

        ____________________________________________________________________________

For those interested in the Pareto Principle (The 80 – 20 Rule).

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle

          Jul 25, 2016 25:37 PM

So there is the 80-20 rule, and then within that 20% there is another 80-20 further breakdown.

Just like in investing, 20% of your picks will represent 80% of your profits, and 80% of your picks will only represent 20% of your profits. It only takes a few big winners to change everything.

Here’s another interesting article that references the book “Living the 80/20 Way”. My father was always a big proponent of the concept and that book.

            Jul 25, 2016 25:40 PM

            One last thought from Investopedia:

The 80-20 rule is a rule of thumb that states that 80% of outcomes can be attributed to 20% of the causes for a given event.

Also known as the “Pareto principle”, the “principle of factor sparsity” and the “law of the vital few.”

            http://www.investopedia.com/terms/1/80-20-rule.asp

            Jul 26, 2016 26:21 AM

So if 80% of your time is spent making lists of stocks for unknown people instead of spent improving your investment skills then that suggests your time is being used inefficiently. In this case it appears the vast proportion of your resources are spent creating online straw men, fighting with strangers and making arguments that are pointless. I will therefore assume that is costing you substantially in lost profits from time that might have been better spent investing. So my advice to you is focus on your trading by putting your time elsewhere and avoid sites like this that seem to upset you so much. You might even become happier as a result.

Birdman, thanks for completely off-base assessment of how I spend my time, or where my skills are. You’re clueless man.

In addition, thanks for continuing to make antagonist remarks and insults every time I post something. For your info, I’ve never created an on-line straw man, and if I’ve made any points I do my best to make them well-reasoned, and provide documentation.

I really rarely have disagreements on any online sites that I visit, or for that matter in personal interactions in daily life. The primary exception for years here on the KER has been with you because you’re a bully and usually throw the first punch, just like Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today. Take a look in the mirror if you want to see where the problem on this site resides.

If you really want to do some deductive reasoning, in why we have these chats, then it is because of stupid attacks and antagonistic comments you make towards me (like what you just posted above). Please stop the insults and attacking me every time I post something.

            Actually I was being serious.

          Jul 25, 2016 25:56 PM

Ex, and to take it a step further, although I have no scientific foundation or study to back this up but I’m sure it applies to the mining industry in spades.

Well known and respected Geo’s, rock-hounds and mining executives that are successful are successful multiple times in the industry and they clearly reside in the 20% of the good equation.

The other 80% are your usual fly-by-night, opportunists that build a fake facade of expertise in the mining industry but are for the most part abject business failures and very rarely make any money for shareholders.

This is why good management with a strong track records are so important in an already crappy extraction industry.

In our instance here we have a ego-eccentric personality based problem not specific to the physical extraction side of the sphere other than price related activity.

Unfortunately, we are dealing with the 20% of the dysfunctional, narcissistic personalities that are deeply embedded in all layers of the social construct.

Utterly amazing how human nature works.

Take care and keep the excellent information flow in motion!

            Jul 25, 2016 25:06 PM

            Absolutely! Great observations Vortex.

            – You nailed it on the focus we need on good management and how they are found in only 20% of the companies. The 80% are the “fly-by-night opportunists that build a fake facade of expertise in the mining industry”.

As for human nature…. whether in politics, religion, business, or this blog….

“Unfortunately, we are dealing with the 20% of the dysfunctional, narcissistic personalities that are deeply embedded in all layers of the social construct.”

Interesting dfs, cant see too many people watching, its over and hour.

So many people on this site talk about how bad the Clintons are, then they invest in the mining companies that support the Clintons.

They invest in the dictators the Clintons make the deals with for mining companies.
      So much for human rights.

I wont bother saying which companies, just causes a kafuffle when they are exposed here. Thx for informing me tho, I wont touch them.

Amazing, the Clintons selling american uranium mining companies to Putin, companies mining uranium in the states listed on our exchanges no less.

Wadupwidat? I find that really strange.

Lets invest in the bombs Putin targets us with. lol Too funny.

        Jul 26, 2016 26:18 AM

I watched the video and it was interesting to see how countries or people donating to the Clinton foundation got their projects moved ahead. Frank Giustra was cited repeatedly. No shock there.

As for the uranium company they featured in the US it was “Uranium One.” Back in 2013, Rosatom (Russian State company) used a subsidiary ARMZ to buy out Frank Guistra’s company. It is now a private company and not traded on the US or listed on our exchanges. At the time Glen Beck had made a big stink about it on the radio especially because the name of that subsidiary was ARMZ; but very few listen to him because he’s seen as a nutcase like an Alex Jones. I wrote about this takeover a few times on the blog back then, that it seemed like a weird deal that our country signed over the rights of US uranium rights to a Russian company, but it’s old news really.

The good companies focused on Uranium Mining in the USA and that have listings in the US markets are Energy Fuels (UUUU), Uranium Energy Corp (UEC), Ur-Energy (URG), Uranium Resources (URRE), Western Uranium Corp (WSTRF), and Peninsula Energy (PENMF).
