The VIX is not the investment that you may think
Rick Ackerman joins us today to discuss an article that LPG sent us all this weekend. The article (linked below) discusses the VIX and underlying VIX ETFs. Investments in the VIX thanks to VIX ETFs has diminished the usefulness of volatility and also is contributing to the markets grinding higher. Have a read of the article below, it is well worth your time.

I think Trump should offer to release his tax forms as soon as Obama releases his sealed college transcripts and Hillary releases her medical records. Trump should then release his medical records and college transcripts.
Great idea…
Funny one Bonzo.

Thanks for that, Andrew. The loonie does look good and its trek to the 200 week MA should start soon. The miners will do very well when it does.

Rothschild Ups Gold Bets
Monday August 15, 2016 13:58
(Kitco News) – As central bankers continue their “greatest experiment in monetary policy in history,” it is important for investors to focus on preserving wealth, this according to one member of the Rothschild banking family.
One way to do that is with gold, noted Jacob Rothschild, chairman of London-based RIT Capital Partners, in a letter to shareholders Monday.

MTF….The above is down to me, let me explain………
A couple of weeks ago I was in a famous watering hole in the City of London, (known as the square mile), enjoying a nice pint of Guinness, when in walks Mr Rothchild. Well me the cheeky chappy that I am, strolled over to him, (very causally ) & offered to buy him a drink, he said I will have what your having, so having purchased , two pints of Guinness, & two large Bushmills we found a table & sat down. After a few minutes savouring the black stuff, & downing the hard stuff in one gulp, we put our small glasses down. We sat in silence for about two minutes staring at each other. I broke the silence first. I said…Look Jacob old boy, you know your great, great , great, great granddaddy…( not been quite clear on how many granddaddy’s went back to the first granddaddy, if you get my drift ).
You know the one who said something about give me control of the money, you know who I’m talking about, ‘. He nodded. Well I think he got it wrong . As you must admit he got it all wrong. …Silence for a couple of minutes, as we sipped our Guinness…..Then I spoke. Do you agree with me when I say the banking world is going down the shitter , as they are all broke….another pause as we finished the black stuff. Jacob looked at me with sad eyes , ( which is very hard for a banker ),& said, stranger I don’t know you , but you are right. Another pause…& then he said what should I do to protect my wealth. I said buy another round & I will tell you. The round arrived & before the barman could put the tray down on the table, I necked my whiskey. Please tell me how to protect my wealth he pleaded….Simple buy real money with your false money….BUY GOLD.
He stared at me like a man confronted by the truth.
ME….I downed my pint in one & left him thinking, as I left the pub……………………..
Irish, did you stiff him with the bill…..
Jerry…I dit’ent have the heart to.
You’re a better man,….and a fine gentleman.
Nice story Tony! Did you hear what it takes to get God to laugh? Tell him your best laid plans!! A
Great story IrishT…..
Vixy had been heading down to close to nothing so they reset it. Not sure if they did a reverse split or what. I would not touch these types of etf’s ever again.
Last year, 8/24 crash vix spiked to 50 and vixy hit 90, a week later 9/1 vix at 33 and vixy at 105. Why vixy went higher and vix went lower ??
I never could figure out why so many small investors are so fascinated with playing the VIX.
