I have now read the full (declassified) report. Does it really say anything? No wonder it was declassified. All I can get from it is that there was a chemical attack. I feel no more the wiser and it reads like badly written propoganda by a low level clerk. The bottom line is I don’t trust the Russian’s, I don’t trust the Assad regime, I don’t trust the US intelligence networks and I certainly don’t trust the extremists. This is what the govt gets when it has lied so much in the past.

So who really did it? Who stands to gain? Only one group…..my bet is that it was done by the extremists. This report has done nothing to change my thinking.

This is exactly how I feel Paul. I do not trust any of the entities that you mentioned including our government.

        Mark,

I agree because I think that the govt has to earn our trust. Way to much totally fake news has been disseminated.

Off Topic: You’ve probably seen the chinese-American doctor dragged off a United flight.

You probably read the apology of the CEO of United, but do you know the law?
Was United legally justified when it forcibly dragged a paying passenger off a plane in Chicago on April 9? The airline seems to think so, but it may come down to whether the company complied with government rules on what airlines must do when passengers are involuntarily bumped.

The Transportation Department says airlines must “give all passengers who are bumped involuntarily a written statement describing their rights and explaining how the carrier decides who gets on an oversold flight and who doesn’t.” There’s no evidence United did that. In an internal email published by the Associated Press, United CEO Oscar Munoz said company employees “followed our involuntary denial of boarding process (including offering up to $1,000 in compensation).” But he didn’t say whether those employees followed government rules, including issuing the written statement and giving an explanation for why a given passenger was singled out for bumping.

    United’s Rule 25

Rule 25 of United’s “contract of carriage”—which is basically the legal fine print governing passenger flights—contains detailed procedures for how to handle overbooked flights on which passengers need to be bumped, either voluntarily or involuntarily. But there’s no mention of a written statement or an explanation offered to passengers who are bumped against their will. So unless there are other United procedures that aren’t public, the carrier’s official policy seems to exclude what the government requires.

Over a decade ago I made a flight from Chicago to Hawaii, via LAX. Despite having both boarding passes in hand as I boarded at ORD, my flight was about half an hour late on arrival at LAX. Despite still having an hour and a half to go bevore my continuation flight, they were over-booked and I was denied boarding for my continuation flight.
After about an hour of negotiation, I agreed to settle for a voucher for hotel and meal and $1500 in future flights on United as compensation for denied boarding.
It was only after I reached a manager and pointed out they violated their own rules that I reached an acceptable settlement.
It is what you don’t know you don’t know that can be the problem!

All airlines are required to keep a copy of their rulebook at their main desk in each airport, and make it available to passengers.
About a decade ago the United rule book was about 60 pages long.

Strangely a year or so before that a professor colleague had been involuntarily bumped from an air Wisconsin flight. He sued in small claims Court for compensation. The airline ignored the coiurt and the judgement, but realized they had made a mistake when they found they had a plane impounded until the judgement was paid. It was paid very quickly) It is easier when a university has its own airport and police system!

they can drag me down the plank for a couple million ….the airlines are going to pay…
