I would question whether in this multply-connected world whether any one central bank on its own can easily generate price inflation. It seems to me recently prices have been dominated by China exporting deflation.
It is possible that Trump realizes this. Whether or not Congress will permit any Trump policy changes to take effect, however, is a different question.

I must be old fashioned, I guess. I have always thought it to be a duty of parents to pay for the cost of education of their children, including a university education.

        May 13, 2017 13:26 AM

When student debt rose to become a year’s salary for the middle class, the middle class could no longer afford college.

College is an outdated institution anyway. Self-study is faster, with YouTube videos and online mentors. Colleges only offer specialized laboratories. The college I went to, NCSU at Raleigh, cared more about Federal research grant dollars than teaching students. Only the elite, who get the name of an Ivy-league university on their diploma, care about college degrees. Most businesses want the free or low-paid intern who alternates with college semesters.

          May 13, 2017 13:40 AM

          Mr. Pace,

If someone cannot afford to pay the price they can’t purchase the product. I a lot of people who got themselves through college and are better people because of it today.

You comment about self-study is certainly correct.

Most businesses want doers and not complainers.

          Expanding on JHPCE1 point……

The large well afforded campus library is obsolete.
Who needs the Dewey decimal system and the stacks.
The best lecture on just about everything can be found online
and it is not delivered by a student teacher.
When surfing you do not need those taxing and troubled campus parking permits.
We all must admit those treasured near campus bars were all dives.
Without college sports, social clubs, and forced coed mingling there
just is not much trending for campus life except for the cost.
Soon college towns will feel the pressure like the local mall that just lost two anchor tenants.
Who needs to go to college when you can receive the same education elsewhere, cheaper and more conveniently.
Just fire up “Tinder” to meet people.
          Social downside solved.

            May 15, 2017 15:13 AM

The only problem with the library is that not ALL books have been digitized yet, then put into noble-gas storage.

College is also the last place many people see others of the opposite gender in casual locations. But marriage rates are down anyway.

      May 13, 2017 13:48 AM

CFS, that may be fine to pay for your children’s education but only if you can afford it and aren’t putting yourself and your wife in a debt hole that you can’t climb out of before retirement. What if you have 3 children, you must treat them all equally, if you pay for one and the other two aren’t accepted in college or university it’s only fair if you give the other two the same amount of money.
I really don’t think the average working stiff has that much liquidity, and the registered educational programs set up here are a way by the banks to control your money. If none of your children go on to higher education the tax credits the parents receive must be paid back when the plan is unwound.

It’s one thing to say that it is the duty of parents to pay for the cost of education of their children, including a university education but it places a terrible strain on marriages after everything else like decent shelter, food, clothing and all the other activities are factored in. By the way how many children did you send to college or university?

        May 13, 2017 13:03 AM

It doesn’t surprise me that our society is trapped in a huge debt bubble, the banks get a pass and are bailed out, the family unit gets stuck with the bill. Once people turn eighteen and are adults they need to learn to be self reliant and stop expecting others to pay their bills. Only then will our countries become creditor nations instead of debt traps.

          May 13, 2017 13:33 AM

          Education starts at home……….

            May 13, 2017 13:45 AM

Jerry, it’s elitist to think that parents are responsible for paying for their children’s education, that excludes all the poor people and almost all of the middle class, probably about 80% of us. What if your child is smart but the parents are poor, there are a lot of smart people out there but most of them aren’t smart enough to qualify for full or partial grants. DT

            May 13, 2017 13:28 AM

Dick, it is not elitist to help your children do the best that they can do…or financially helping a child stay out of problems, like DEBT.
The problem of education…… is the lack of education of the adults to figure out they have been con ed by the elitist bankers who wish to make everyone a DEBT SLAVE……
A lifetime of slavery of being in DEBT,..house , car, and now education …which everyone likes to say is ok. The bankers figured out how to keep everyone in bondage through EDucation ,,was to, not allow people to free themselves through BANDRUPTCY.
The elitist bankers have done a great job keeping everyone in debt since 1913, and keeping the scam going…..College education is one of those debt ploys ., and generations of slaves have been created by Education, and really a lack of education of DEBT.

            May 13, 2017 13:36 AM

We have been talking about school debt ,for well over 10 years……maybe nobody reads the blog……………

Trust me Jerry, if I am every in your neck of the woods I am going to look you up. You are a decent human being.

thanks OWL and Andy…you guys have been a pleasure sharing thoughts with these past several years.

        May 13, 2017 13:45 AM

No strain was placed on my relationship with my wife.

And, by the way, we did not buy the “big house on the hill” because we spent the majority of our capital on private schools and then universities for both Sarah and Stephanie. Today Steph is a contributor to the economy of Canada and happy to be one of those and Sarah is an executive with her employer and raising my twin grandchildren

You can probably tell that I am very proud of my wife and I and certainly proud of my daughters. That pride is so much more important that “the big house on the hill”.

          May 13, 2017 13:06 PM

AL…That pride is worth more than a billion in the bank…You are a good man.

            May 14, 2017 14:34 AM

            Mr. Irish,

We have been communicating for a long time now. I may not know what you look like but I think that I know your heart and your intellect. I guarantee to all that you are a very good person.

        CFS
        May 13, 2017 13:55 AM

Since I was a professor at a good university, my son could have gone there with a free ride. However, it was decided that he would get a better education at what is probably one of the most expensive universities in the world, so that is where he went and his parents paid 100%. I practice what I preach.

          May 14, 2017 14:35 AM

You don’t have to tell us all that Dave, We have known that for a long time.

      May 13, 2017 13:37 AM

CFS and Jerry, Kathy and I definitely fall into you camp. As do, I am happy to say, every single one of our friends and I am proud to be able to say that.

Expecting someone else to take care of my family is something that I have never done because I believe that it is immoral.

I am pround of everyone on this forum who feels the same way!

        May 13, 2017 13:43 AM

Education might have to start , with those who understand DEBT Slavery….

          May 13, 2017 13:53 AM

Of course OOTB you make a great point.

        May 13, 2017 13:51 AM

Al, you are an elitist and ridiculous there are many, many people who have trouble putting food on the table. If you really want to do something you will find a way to make it happen. I have known people who come from families with nine children and some with fourteen children, how do you expect parents to pay for their children’s education. How many people in the United States are on food stamps (49 million) and collecting welfare are they immoral to you and your rich friends. DT

          May 13, 2017 13:57 AM

Listen to my interview with Helen Worly and then call me an elitist. I am far from being an elitist as I simply believe in hard work and solving problems

I am really not sure how you could call me one when you have never met me.

And therein lies a major problem with our society. “Always laying the blame on someone else”. Funny, I never took you for that kind of person. And, I have to say that my gut tells me that you are not!.

          May 13, 2017 13:04 AM

Al you are part of what I was talking about last week, The Me Generation”. You don’t look at how it is for many others you simply base your ideas around your thinking and actions. Al thinks, If I sent my kids to university and paid for it and my friends did then everyone else should do the same or their immoral. You should be ashamed of yourself Al Korelin.

            May 13, 2017 13:29 AM

i guess, at first blush all I can say is that a serious price is being paid for anonymity

I personally would rather have the protection that comes from not having it in this case. But then again, I have never used the bit coin system. I personally believe, since I am not hiding anything, that I have nothing to hide.

            May 13, 2017 13:30 AM

If is obvious that you simply do not understand what I am saying. Oh well, it is what it is.

            May 13, 2017 13:39 AM

Al, blame your thoughts and actions on something other than it is, anonymity. Isn’t that what you have been talking about but it doesn’t include you. You really are all about you. DT

          May 13, 2017 13:50 AM

I could comment on immorality of having children that one cannot afford to have.

I could comment on the immorality of deliberately making oneself totally dependent financially on society.

But would such people understand? That is why democracy ultimately always fails, because of greed – one of the deadly sins.

            May 13, 2017 13:57 AM

Mr. Tracy, you really got up on the wrong side of the bed today. I hope that you hae a better weekend.

            May 13, 2017 13:00 AM

Some may not understand your points, Professor. I believe that I o and I am in agreement with them.

Regarding having children, if a couple is destitute and cannot afford to care and feed their children they should not bring them into the world unless they are somehow guaranteed that care.

          May 13, 2017 13:54 AM

Absolutely not immoral as long as they put their families and their God first. There are many ways to help your family without writing checks!

            May 13, 2017 13:46 PM

Dang I just lost a lengthy post for some reason. So in summary Al, DT and CFS you are all right.
Next moth we have Theresa May (Conservative) and Jeremy Corbyn (‘Old’ Labour) fighting for a claim to ‘Number Ten’. Both to my mind are worthy people although Theresa stands to win by a landslide. The trouble with Jezza is that in wanting a more fair society we simply ain’t got the money to pay for what he ‘promises’. Although we don’t have 49 million on food stamps, we have a huge ‘under-class’ who either through their own stupidity or hopelessness take the line that society ‘owes me everything I can get’. Furthermore many of those in this dependency class only make matters worse for themselves and thus for the rest of us. Many eat and drink horrible diets and contributing to an obesity epidemic, or other conditions requiring expensive medical treatment. Our NHS is in near chaos with debts running riot, only to suffer further from last week’s cyber attack.
Of course any compassionate person is left facing huge dilemmas. For at the other end we all hate those fat cats who only feast at the trough of filthy lucre. But as Margaret Thatcher once said: ‘Socialism’s all very well and good until we end up spending other people’s money’!
From a Christian perspective perhaps I’m somewhat consoled when Jesus went to the Pool of Siloam – a known venue for cripples and other derelicts only to meet and respond to the needs one poor cripple. Or who, when anointed with costly ointment by Mary rebutted the criticism of those who claimed that the ointment was wasted with the money better spent on the poor, by retorting: ‘The poor you have with you always’.

          May 13, 2017 13:08 PM

          DT…That was unfair.

            May 14, 2017 14:40 AM

Perhaps it was unfair Mr Irish, but I pride myself of free speech.

I know that what Tracy is saying is simply not accurate and I leave it at that.

      May 13, 2017 13:43 AM

No, you are an anti-communist and you ought to be proud of that fact. Public education, or, da gubmint skool, is a bloody communist concept. Public education is a colossal fraud. Public education is state sanctioned child abuse. Gubmint skools are administered at the point of a gun. What gubmint skool did George Washington attend? Gubmint skools are evil. They can’t even admit that a human being with male chromosomes is a male.

      May 13, 2017 13:55 PM

I disagree that it is a duty. Here’s my story. Three kids, all did well in HS while working at the same time. They all three had better cash flow than I did. Their Mom and I made them save half of their income at that time. They got scholarships and tuitions were lower than today. With scholarships and savings, they all three reached Jr. status whereby Mom & Dad paid for their final year. Oldest daughter graduated from Lewis & Clark, Portland, Ore. in English. Today, she’s living with us, not working yet after quitting job and moving home. Middle daughter grad. from Albertson’s College with two minors and a Master’s in Education. Superb teacher, married to a CPA, 4 adopted children. In debt but cash flow is excellent and a guaranteed retirement. No worries with them. Son, youngest, got a BS from a state University in computer science. He’s 36 and almost retired. Will be whenever either of the startups he worked for go public. Both in cyber security space. Proud of all three but have never regretted the way we structured their education. FWIW

        May 14, 2017 14:44 AM

You and your wife obviously did a wonderful job, Silverdollar. If you happen to live in the Portland area you are fortunate I know because Kathy and I spent 31 years across the Columbia River. Portland does have a certain magic to it.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_UJws5WpKY

      May 13, 2017 13:03 PM

I humbly disagree CFS. With three kids who during HS, kept good grades and made a better cash flow than I did, we made them save 50% of their earnings. Later, with scholarships and those savings, they paid for three years of study and I and my wife paid for the final year. The oldest daughter with a degree from Lewis & Clark in English is presently living at home. Middle daughter finished a masters and is a successful teacher with four children and a CPA husband. No worries there. Son, 36, is almost retired and will be wealthy whenever options from two startups he worked for go public. They are in the cyber security space so it will happen. He has a BS from a state university. Daughters were both at private institutions. Proud of all three and have never regretted our decision to teach them to save part of income. FWIW.

      Of course, Professor.

    May 13, 2017 13:33 AM

Once the Federal government made student loans shielded from bankruptcy I knew the goal was rent, not education. We have debtor’s prisons again in the USA – only this time, the prisoners are not put into prison, but allowed to live in public but with a boat anchor or albatross around their necks. Did the person ask for this debt? Yes, but government should not have subsidized university professors and administrators with taxpayer’s money as well as students’ debt. If colleges truly competed with each other, without government subsidy, prices would be lower.

But government found out it can shape the course of research and development, and propaganda, by granting certain professors taxpayer dollars and denying other professors any taxpayer dollars. Businesses did this at first, but found out it was cheaper to lobby government to do it with other people’s money.

Dr. Dwight Moore did an excellent job explaining the herd mentality. If people recognized they were living in that space and gave an effort to understand the other side, all would benefit in a big way. And if the herds” understood how the top herd/0.1% ‘ers controlled and managed the 99% of the rest of the herds, humanity would prosper beyond belief.

Great topic, Al! Thanks for the show.

I believe I truly understand the Democrat side (not that I am a Republican). However, I believe they are wrong. I know Hillary is guilty of multiple crimes, for example.
I believe/know that socialism/communism is NOT the most effective economic way to run a society.
      There are absolute truths.
Part of the problem of society today is the lack of acceptance of absolute truth for “feelings”. The educational system no longer allows a winner; everybody has to feel good. What BS!.
Yes, society is polarized, but half of society is wrong, by most accepted historical and moral standards.

Yes, there will be toll roads and bridges, but where else could the money come from? US taxes to the max and is $trillions in debt. May 15, 2017 15:54 AM

Once the misinformed Christians figure out the REAL JEWS have been set aside during this time period, they will be less likely to keep supporting Israel war like policies.

I honustly dont know about fake or real Jews, I know there are a few different groups, but thats it.
I read the group that “ratted” Jesus out didnt expect all Jews to be blamed. lol surprise!

The reason its over is the exact reason people keep mentioning here, people are stupid, uneducated and basically dont really care enough to inform themselves.

PCR explains the neocons well, we are on the knifes edge, who cares?
Does one single group christian or otherwise say one single word?
abortion bad, napalm…..well, theres alot of money in it.

Couple of blogs that maybe a few thousand people read out of how many 100s of millions?

For example, we are going to mine pebble beach, this should kill the alaskan/northern b.c. fishery.
Any chance it will be stopped? fugetaboutit.
30 pcs of silver are at stake.

Only reason I can seriously think its going ahead is tptb figure the oceon is dead anyway due to fukashima.(ya sure, its trump) like he has a say in anything.

Jay Taylor, good “christian” guy, was promoting investing in weapons AGAIN.
He actually justifys investing in the murder of children.
I dont know about you, but I sure the heck am not christian.

Not that it matters, my point, nobody in any numbers is doing anything to stop or change our direction.

The bankers have won basically because people are stupid and really couldnt give a darn about each other.

If people actually bothered to care about people, they sure as heck would not be supporting Israel.
            Ignorance is no excuse.

Christianson? he has been on ker, has begun to say whats needed is a change in consciousness.
Nice to hear, I do believe I was saying that years and years ago, and I doubt I was anywhere near the first.

But thats our answer, think people will give up their gold?

I read the article, but do not accept its innuendo.

In the big picture of things the firing of Comey matters not one jot.
Trump may exhibit a tendency at times to act impulsively.
However, Trump is also a rather intelligent person and the evidence is scant that in a really serious situation that he acts rashly. On the contrary, the evidence from his business life is that in serious situations he seeks wise counsel and makes logical and well thought-out moves. He has survived multiple bankruptcy situations, after all, to become a billionaire. He takes risks, but when the risk goes against him he always proceeds further in the most logical fashion, as far as I can ascertain.

        CFS
        May 13, 2017 13:00 PM

Further, Trumps instincts seem to be more right than wrong.
e.g. from his pre-election statements, he said he could work with Putin.
Surely it is better to work with Putin than than, for example, to blame him with interfering with the election without a shred of proof.
e.g. Trump claims he wants to drain the swamp.
Surely any attempt to drain the swamp is a good thing; even though, in practice, he may be thwarted at every turn by Crony Democrats, crony Republicans and the entrenched bureaucracy.
e.g. Trump says he wants to rebuild the American infrastructure.
Unfortunately the US can not afford it, but does anyone doubt Trump will find an alternative method of financing?
e.g. Trump said he would build a wall on the border. I see great opposition in Congress, but I also see the first steps being taken to actually build a fence/wall.
I see a great reduction in entering illegal immigrants, and an increase in deportations.
        etc, etc, etc.

          May 14, 2017 14:07 AM

Professor, the only possible action of his that I strongly disagree with is the building of a wall. To me that makes little, if any, sense.

in Yemen, which have wars going on,
and, in fact, every other country in the world except Syria.

Student loans although perceived as giving opportunity have become the equivalent of placing students in debt chains. In colonial times someone who could not afford to book passage to “The New World” would sell themselves into indentured servitude.
The process was a market and followed this path:
    1) A subject was in an environment in which he was condemned to limited opportunity. Born into a caste system he would never amount to more than his father if lucky enough.
    2) A vehicle presented itself to transport him to a magical place of unlimited opportunity.
    3) Because of the practice of indentured servitude prices for passage to “The New World” were bid up beyond reach of average would be adventurer. A dilemma was at hand. Do you remain in serfdom at 40 schillings a year or ironically sell yourself into servitude for a ticket to be eventually free?
    4) The hopeful booked passage selling themselves for periods of years into indenture. Literally declaring themselves as collateral for a boat ride.
Today the public schools take fiefdom over their district. The student serf who is lucky enough to learn the dumbed down curriculum is presented a diploma with limited prospects. “Higher education” presents itself as a ship to potential nirvana. However, free flowing student loan money has bid up the price of College and University. In order take the higher education journey the student takes on an indenture not at all distinguishable from the one frowned upon in history. We just do not call the uniquely non-dischargeable debt in bankruptcy what it is…enslavement. We call it opportunity. A must have. At $600 per credit hour students sit in auditoriums filled with fellow student debt slave passengers being taught by student teachers while the professor writes his next contrived masterpiece of academia.
Indentured servitude whether found in history or by Ted Kennedy’s favored guaranteed student loans both bid up the cost of a needed service to the detriment of those seeking the service.
In the seventies the squares and bell bottoms borrowed their way through Frisbee college many soon thereafter discharging the debt in bankruptcy…others paid it back much more easily with inflation debased currency. The prevalence of student loan bankruptcy threatened the program but to continue the farce Ted Kennedy excluded the debt from discharge. So we now live in a country in which things not found written in the constitution become the law as if they were written. We also live in a country, in which things written in the constitution for historic cause like bankruptcy for control purposes are ignored as archaic boilerplate.
Control is pervasive in life. Certainly the industry that is education is more about control than it is about enlightening the student. The failed public schools system exerts control over failure. The flawed fiascos deliver an occasional literate student to a higher education boat dock. The illusion of going to any school you want is joined by a controlling price of irrevocable debt. Guaranteed Student Loans are ocable indentures the equivalent of selling oneself into servitude. Maybe “they” do want to put us back in chains? Just maybe we have not ever fully escaped the chains in the first place.

I have a really good friend who was a very successful real estate agent in Vancouver, Wa. He once told me that, in his opinion, the only purpose for buying a home is to live in it. I happen to completely agree with that idea.

Not in the Washgington Post version, or the Moscow Times version or the Zerohedge version is any claim that the Russian never hacked anything. Just a claim that the FBI wanted him to admit hacking HRC’s email, and that Trump put him up to it.
