“Draining the swamp is certainly important, but utilizing the full power of the federal government in making America “great again” will simply not happen when only a portion of our elected officials are on board in solving that task. What we have today reminds me of a squabble in a kindergarten class.

Are we on the road to “draining the swamp”? It certainly looks like it, but think how much further ahead we would be if we had less time spent on in-fighting and more time spent on the actual task.

Professor Steven Nemerovski feels that a viable third party in our political system would allow this to happen. I personally agree with him. Consider reading his two books “Starting in the Middle” and “Strange Bedfellows”

The greatest obstacle is one’s conviction that he or she already has knowledge, even if he or she does not. From Socrates’ perspective, people often mistakenly believe that they have knowledge, when in fact they hold only opinions. For Socrates, true knowledge is unchanging and eternal truth.

      Feb 03, 2018 03:52 AM

The scary things here is that it is obvious that only one side has truth on it side. Now, I ask you which side is that?

However the morality of my being in the 1% concerns me.

Before I retired, I was in the top 1% according to our CPA. Now I am no longer in that position and, I have to tell you Professor, life i absolutely no different. Sure our disposable income is less but, what the hell, I like my 2003 BMW convertible and I love our little cottage.

All that is important in life here is to have peace of mind. I would guess that I am preaching to the choir.

DemonRepublocraps will never allow a third party to gain traction. The rules are totally skewed to make sure that a that a viable third party will never exist, just ask Ron Paul. He ran as a Libertarian for President and saw the futility of that so he ran as a Republican, twice.

The two-headed snake will never allow any competition and if voting could change that they’d outlaw voting.

Sorry for being a Gloomy Gus, but that’s just the way it is. And I sure don’t see that changing in any of our lifetimes.

      Feb 03, 2018 03:40 PM

You are a bit of a gloomy Gus, Eddy, but that’s okay.

Democracy is highly overrated so here’s another book for you, Mr. Big Al Korelin and the rest of you people.

Define a system that you would be more comfortable with, Eddy.

        Feb 03, 2018 03:30 PM

Whatever it is that I would “be more comfortable with” doesn’t matter. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but the one thing I do know is that there is nothing I can do to change the system of governance. So I think the question to ask is “What can I do to avoid government?”

          Feb 03, 2018 03:33 PM

And sorry, Mr. Big Al Korelin but that’s the best I can do for now. I will try to comment later if time allows. Right now I got to wash my truck then work on an SQL Server database, sorry.

          Feb 03, 2018 03:50 PM

          Easy Eddy, keep to yourself!

        Feb 03, 2018 03:53 PM

Al, the minority that needs the most protection is the individual. A democracy that is unchecked by a set of rules (like the ignored U.S. Constitution) is no better than a dictatorship – and potentially worse.

        Feb 03, 2018 03:59 PM

These two forms of government: Democracy and Republic, are not only dissimilar but antithetical, reflecting the sharp contrast between (a) The Majority Unlimited, in a Democracy, lacking any legal safeguard of the rights of The Individual and The Minority, and (b) The Majority Limited, in a Republic under a written Constitution safeguarding the rights of The Individual and The Minority…
        http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/AmericanIdeal/aspects/demrep.html

Al, you should know by now that democracy is promoted by both the left and the (fake) right because it makes the constitution a worthless piece of paper.

          Feb 03, 2018 03:45 PM

          Well said………….

Al, you can’t go wrong with Hoppe.

          Feb 04, 2018 04:52 PM

Hoppe? Call me a bit dysfunctional at the moment, or perhaps always, but I don’t understand. Please explain.

            Feb 04, 2018 04:07 PM

Hans-Hermann Hoppe is the author of the book that Eddy recommended above:

Government is a gang of thieves. Always has been, always will be.

That is because everything government does is based on coercion. There is nothing voluntary about government.

Trying to change government is futile. You’d be better off spending your time trying to avoid it instead of trying to change it. (Unless you’re filthy rich and can afford to buy politicians, lobbyists and lawyers.)

I don’t know where is an appropriate location for this comment, but I feel it is an important comment.

If you think there is any competence in the Federal Reserve; ponder this.

Over the last decade the Treasury and the Federal Reserve have been shifting to shorter term bonds and treasuries.
I believe the world attitude to the U.S. is changing and WILL DEMAND higher interest rates.
Having shortened the term length of Bonds, more have to be re-financed earlier at soon to be higher interest rates.
Competence or utter stupidity? You decide.

Some concern may be expressed by current UAF Rotation which occured in January.
Specifically at Guam, where B-1s where replaced by B-52s to be added to the B-2s there.
This gives US capability of Nuclear tipped bombs in stand-off (cruise missiles) and direct bombing mode for N. Korea.
The U.S. has recently (reported successfully) tested capability of directed armament use in the event of loss of use of GPS systems.
Precautions or Preparations? I don’t know.
