Hedge Funds/CTAs Move To Net Short Position in Silver

I don’t think this is necessarily a good thing.

My guess is from 1980 to 1995, large specs were net short almost the entire time.

i.e., this is sign of a bear market.

PDAC “curse” due to start next week?

      Mar 05, 2018 05:50 PM

Why not? It’s always a good time to sell miners. Out of the last 7 years, there was a 7-8 month window where that wasn’t true.

They will never ever let miners or commodities outperform the US stock markets over the long run. The 2016 rally totally reset sentiment in the sector and has allowed for a continued bear market. Sideways to down for years more.

Silver’s CoTs being flipped on its head is not a sign of an imminent rally. It is confirmation that we are in a bear market and that it has years to run.

We’ve already been in the curse the last 2 weeks as traders sold off metals and miners prior to the event in anticipation. The PDAC was this weekend and extends into this week and we were also lower today as to be expected in this seasonal weakness.

Last year the PDAC curse front ran the event and started a week or two prior to the as well. In most years it trails the event or happens during it though.

Gwen Preston put together some research where in bullish years in the metals that the PDAC curse tends to hit the week or two before the event on the front side, and in more bearish years there is a more extreme selloff during the event that continues after the event in the month of March.

Here is a Seasonality Chart for Gold over 30 years: (note the March selloff)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Claims that the active ingredient in the widely used weed killer Roundup can cause cancer have been evaluated by international agencies, U.S. and foreign regulators and the product’s manufacturer — agribusiness giant Monsanto.

Now, a federal judge in San Francisco is conducting his own review during an unusual set of court hearings that began Monday. It has big stakes for Monsanto and hundreds of farmers and others who have sued the company.

U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria will spend a week hearing from experts to help decide whether there is valid scientific evidence to support the lawsuits’ claim that exposure to Roundup can cause non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Chhabria is presiding over more than 300 lawsuits against Monsanto Co. by cancer victims and their families who say the company long knew about Roundup’s cancer risk but failed to warn them.

The plaintiffs must first persuade Chhabria, however, that he should allow their epidemiologists and other doctors to testify to a jury that Roundup can cause cancer. Many regulators have rejected the link, and Monsanto vehemently denies it and says hundreds of studies have found glyphosate — Roundup’s active ingredient — is safe.

The plantiffs’ first witness was Beate Ritz, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles who studies the effects of pesticide exposure. She explained some of the studies she relied on for her conclusion that there is a higher risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for people exposed to glyphosate-based formulations.

Chhabria will not determine if the cancer connection exists, but whether the claim has been tested, reviewed and published and is widely accepted in the scientific community.

“It’s game over for the plaintiffs if they can’t get over this hurdle,” said David Levine, an expert in federal court procedure at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Monsanto developed glyphosate in the 1970s, and the weed killer is now sold in more than 160 countries. Farmers in California use it on more than 200 types of crops. Homeowners use it to keep their lawns and gardens pristine.

I hope Monsanto and Merck will be bankrupted as they are run by evil people.

Cancer concerns aside, there is also the fact that glyphosate disrupts the Shikimate process in bacteria, and thereby wreaks havoc on the digestive system, which is dependent on bacteria for proper function.

According to Dr. Mercola, the surfactants in Roundup are a major concern as well, not just the glyphosate.

If there were actually a war on terror, Monsanto headquarters would be on the short list for bombing runs. Along with Ajinomoto.
