Trump did NOT impose tariffs. He signed a memo today indicating intent.
That provides time for negotiation.
That allows China to buy some US goods, for example as a message of good faith to reduce the imbalance.
Only after China refuses to negotiate would tariffs be introduced.
The ball is in China’s court: negotiate or good faith or face tariffs. That’s intelligent in my book.
