I agree with Chris’ point about China. It’s one thing trying to renegotiate trade terms to an extent, but if your motive is to try and ‘knock them down a peg or two’ you are getting in seriously dangerous territory. The greatest possibility is you are drifting towards a military confrontation without knowing it

The US is used to being the big kid on the block. China intends to become the new big kid.

I think the US is where the UK was between the two world wars handing over power, both military and eonomically, to the US. But that was one ally with similar culture handing over to another. It will be different with China.

I was listening to a writer on China last night talking about how a US Navy admiral gave a tour of an aircraft carrier to Chinese officials. They asked him the weak spot for the carrier and the idiot told them that it was the bottom of the hull… so the Chinese went to Russia and bought a torpedo that targets that area.

I think a lot of Americans, including lots of bankers and CEO’s, are very naive about China. Their plan is to be number one in 50 – 100 years and they are playing the long game getting technology, stealing intellectual property and, in the form of naive people, having it given to them.
